He would also need to outplay the likes of Lemieux and Gauthier.

I like Gauthier but I dont see him being much more than a Pouliot style player. Lemieux is what he is and its something we need. Anderson's ceiling if he were to achieve it is higher than both those players, if he comes back they need to make sure he gets every opportunity to succeed because this rebuild needs some forwards to fill out the roster. Having Kravtsov and Anderson turn a corner would be huge for us.

More and more chatter about June Draft happening. Friedman said NHL really wants to do it and they've been paying attention to how much interest the NFL draft has been getting since it'll be the only thing going on. We would have the 14th and 23rd. Womp. Should have tanked in the wasted season.

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly confirmed Wednesday that the league is considering holding its draft in June, before a conclusion to the 2019-20 season is reached.

Bill Daly: June NHL draft would likely use PTS % - TSN.ca

So if the league operates under this idea, the Rangers will pick at 14 when the draft happens in June. Then should the season resume in July, they theoretically could make the playoffs, and win the Stanley Cup, while still having that prospect they picked at 14

I can't imagine teams would be okay with that

They should just cancel the season, use the current standings for lotto chances, hold the draft lotto, and then do an online draft in June.

It's the best option.

They could win the lottery and then go on to win the Cup. Which is, in fact, what I am predicting.

Nope. Make it point percentage or something. I don't want to pick 16th instead of 13 or 14 lol

I would think that they can't/won't do anything with the draft until they decide what is going to happen with the regular season/playoffs. so things are locked in. makes no sense to do it and then resume which would change the standings

So... no trades at the draft? Or just allow teams to make trades and the player can join the team for the playoffs if they are played? Or players can’t join their new team until after the playoffs? Or they have to finish whatever games were left for their old team even though they’ve been traded?

I am not disputing that. I am just saying that he would need to outplay them both.

Agreed. This has gone on long enough. Leagues all over the world were canceled already. The NHL is holding out hope, jumping through hoops trying to come up with some circus-act schedule to make this season work. It's crazy. We didn't have a Stanley Cup champion in 2005. We survived that. I am sure we can survive another year without a champion.

Sounds like it would be no player trades.

What is the rush? The PGA already announced they are starting June 8th. The NBA hasn't canceled anything permanently. Lower tier leagues have. There is no advantage to the NHL announcing his season is permanently done today as opposed to doing it a month from now. Once that decision is made it cannot be taken back and they have every incentive to wait it out, see how things develop, and hope they are able to come up a plan to plan some semblance of a remainder of the season if certain locations deem it acceptable.

I really cannot see this happening (and a lot of GMs already said they had the idea) with the logic being the concept makes absolutely no sense to do a June draft and continue the season. All it will do is cause controversy. They can just hold the draft a few days after the SCF in that situation.

From the NHL's perspective, they weren't paying players' salaries in 2004-05. You and possibly me would survive, but teams will be motivated to get some TV playoff revenue.

$5 mil/year while he puts up 70+ points next to panarin would make it a great value contract

Agreed.

The lower AAV also makes him tradeable if the situation arises that we need to move him out.

After we draft Lafreniere is he allowed to play for us during our cup run?

I doubt it. I think they just move the July 1st date up to whenever the new season starts. Because if they allow 2020 draftees to play, technically you can have a 17-year old in the NHL. That will never happen (again)

It's not great value if you can have someone else do something similar for cheaper. Conor Sheary scored 53 points in 61 games in 16-17 for 667k playing next to Crosby all year with no PP1 time. Paying more money to keep someone who worked with him before like Kunitz would not have been a good contract even if he put up good numbers. Then they paid to keep Sheary (3M) because he worked well there and next thing you know he found himself getting a lot of time in the bottom six the next year and was replaced seamlessly by Rust/Guentzel. Great players make other players good. Paying to keep the other players is stupid.

I would rather sign two quality depth players to improve the 3rd line and just play Chytil in Strome's spot than pay to keep a spot I find very replaceable.

But how do we know Chytil can have the same impact on Panarin that Strome had? And how can we know Chytil can have similar production to Strome?
