He would also need to outplay the likes of Lemieux and Gauthier. If LA has a good camp (an admittedly large if), he could find his way onto Chytil's line even if he doesn't outplay him.

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly confirmed Wednesday that the league is considering holding its draft in June, before a conclusion to the 2019-20 season is reached.
They could win the lottery and then go on to win the Cup. Which is, in fact, what I am predicting. So if the league operates under this idea, the Rangers will pick at 14 when the draft happens in June. Then should the season resume in July, they theoretically could make the playoffs, and win the Stanley Cup, while still having that prospect they picked at 14
I can't imagine teams would be okay with that
Tying up 5 million a year for the next 3/4 years to a middling player like Strome while their may be a cap freeze is a classic Ranger move
Therefore it's for sure happening
Whoa now Jared let's not get too crazyThey could win the lottery and then go on to win the Cup. Which is, in fact, what I am predicting.
They should just cancel the season, use the current standings for lotto chances, hold the draft lotto, and then do an online draft in June.
It's the best option.

I am not disputing that. I am just saying that he would need to outplay them both.I like Gauthier but I dont see him being much more than a Pouliot style player. Lemieux is what he is and its something we need. Anderson's ceiling if he were to achieve it is higher than both those players, if he comes back they need to make sure he gets every opportunity to succeed because this rebuild needs some forwards to fill out the roster. Having Kravtsov and Anderson turn a corner would be huge for us.

How the timely callups of Matt Puempel and Dylan McIlrath took the Red Wings from worst to first**extremely Bettman voice** Captain Alexis Lafreniere, come get the Stanley Cup!
Sounds like it would be no player trades.So... no trades at the draft? Or just allow teams to make trades and the player can join the team for the playoffs if they are played? Or players can’t join their new team until after the playoffs? Or they have to finish whatever games were left for their old team even though they’ve been traded?
Agreed. This has gone on long enough. Leagues all over the world were canceled already. The NHL is holding out hope, jumping through hoops trying to come up with some circus-act schedule to make this season work. It's crazy. We didn't have a Stanley Cup champion in 2005. We survived that. I am sure we can survive another year without a champion.
More and more chatter about June Draft happening. Friedman said NHL really wants to do it and they've been paying attention to how much interest the NFL draft has been getting since it'll be the only thing going on. We would have the 14th and 23rd. Womp. Should have tanked in the wasted season.
Unfortunately, they were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs in December. How the timely callups of Matt Puempel and Dylan McIlrath took the Red Wings from worst to first
From the NHL's perspective, they weren't paying players' salaries in 2004-05. You and possibly me would survive, but teams will be motivated to get some TV playoff revenue.Agreed. $5 mil/year while he puts up 70+ points next to panarin would make it a great value contract
After we draft Lafreniere is he allowed to play for us during our cup run?

It's not great value if you can have someone else do something similar for cheaper. Conor Sheary scored 53 points in 61 games in 16-17 for 667k playing next to Crosby all year with no PP1 time. Paying more money to keep someone who worked with him before like Kunitz would not have been a good contract even if he put up good numbers. Then they paid to keep Sheary (3M) because he worked well there and next thing you know he found himself getting a lot of time in the bottom six the next year and was replaced seamlessly by Rust/Guentzel. Great players make other players good. Paying to keep the other players is stupid.
I would rather sign two quality depth players to improve the 3rd line and just play Chytil in Strome's spot than pay to keep a spot I find very replaceable.
