A 3rd for a middle six player? Kapanen’s production has been similar to Buchnevich’s at the same age. Buchnevich almost got us a top-10 draft pick.

Kapanen is young, cost-controlled, and an RFA when his contract expires. He’s fast, can play both wings, and produces 5v5.

I wouldn’t go pay a first for Kapanen, but our later first is def “fair value.” Worse players have gone for more. I don’t think it’s a good trade for NYR right now, but that’s besides the point..,

Which team is going to dump a ton of money on Pietrangelos doorstep this summer?
Which teams (other than us) wont try to? But seriously, I've wondered recently if the Blues wouldn't prefer to lock up Pietrangelo and see if they can get blown away on an offer for Parayko.

I guess it depends on how much the Sharks potentially value Lias.

If they see a guy that is only 21 who can grow into a solid role player on the 3rd line and may have gotten a raw deal from us, it may work. If they see a guy who lacks some of the tools to be a consistent NHL player and may be on his way to being a bust, obviously that changes things.

In this trade, ideally you're capitalizing on 2 issues the Sharks have, being the lack of cap space, and the lack of draft picks/assets

Labanc is a player in this league and Lias is a big question mark whose value is in the tank. I don’t think a mid round pick is the difference there.

I said a 3rd and a prospect. That prospect could be someone who is closer such as Hajek. Or it could be someone further away such as Jones or Robertson.

I like Kapanen, but again I am not moving a 1st round pick for someone that is not a 1st or even a 2nd line player at the moment. You can talk about potential all day long, but until its reality it is just that, potential. How do we know his best numbers are not a byproduct of playing with the talent there is in Toronto? It sure looks like the underlying numbers are. What happens when he gets here? Sure we could put him with Panarin, but would his production be due to his abilities or more because of Panarin? The Ryan Strome debate. We are not dealing high value assets for a 2nd/3rd line tweener because he “might” boom playing here.

I am happy to trade a 2nd round pick for him, even add something small if it came down to it.

With how the economy has been effected and the for sure reduced revenue for the year I believe that a compliance buyout is a very real possibility.

Rangers would be one of the biggest benefactors.

Brendon Dillon money right there. Move out Smith’s money to a cap floor team. Upgrade with Dillon on a 3 year deal @ $3.5 million per. Net positive for next season from Smith to Dillon.

Dillon train chugging along

If this were doable I’d be on board. Smith grew on me last year, but not at that cap hit. Dillon would be an upgrade to our D with some snarl.

I think Smith has played well enough that a cap floor team, such as OTT, would be interested in adding a veteran who will defend his teammates (aka their youth) and only have to pay him for 1 more year. I think its more possible than it was this time last year when he still had 2 years remaining on his deal and was barely doing anything right.

I agree. I don’t know if Ottawa would do it, but I think it’s feasible. Dilon is a good target if it were.

This is pretty simple. You get a compliance buyout you use it on hank. Give him free agency he deserves to choose where he wants to play. It’s an enormous cap got that magically goes away. It’s a no brainer.

Smith is still valuable for another year. He’s versatile. No need to buy him out.

Staal would be my buyout but I don’t even see a reason to do that. Can use him another year as kids develop. A hank compliance buyout is an easy fix.

the rangers won't buy out hank, that's just a guess though...

At this point I’d be more surprised if they didn’t buy Henrik out

Larry is adamant they’re going to do it, and it seems obvious by their actions they don’t really want to part with Georgiev

I don’t think it’s the right move, but I’m not running the team
