i find it ironic that the youngest dmen on the team are playing the best hockey right now

lindgren plays like prime girardi and shows the same compete level as #27 did. impressive.

fox plays like a 10 year vet and has brian leech stuff. for a rook, thats just insane.

and tony has broken through to a new level. his skating is off the charts, the confidence and the ability to make plays running the PP1 has been the key to this PP success. he and panarin work beautifully together. his ability to pass the puck at the right time on the tape to the right guy is so under appreciated here. he is a marvelous outlet passer

those 3 have outplayed the trouba, skjei, staal trio by miles.

says a lot about quinn too.

Think that Kakko, Chytil and Goat will show nice progression next year. Maybe Kravtsov too. Lets get this Alexis guy as well

My favorite thing about the way this team is being built is not only the skill, but the lunch pail, blue collar players to go along with the skill players.

I feel like Gauthier adds an element of both on the Bottom 6 that makes them that much tougher to play against. Suddenly the Fourth line is a band of fringe NHLers into a team that has an element of danger. Other teams have to account for them now because someone like him can use his size and speed to drive the net.

I’m also leaning towards the “resign Kreider” camp. There’s clearly a lot of chemistry with this locker room, and he’s clearly one of the leaders here, and helps give us an actual first line.

I don’t know what else will happen this year, but it’s been a ton of fun to watch this team gel and grow together. They didn’t fall into the “loser mentality” that so many other “rebuilding” teams seem to fall into. Our veterans coming into their prime, along with our young talent like Chytil, Kakko. Fox, and Shesterkin getting that NHL experience, mixed with our prospects still coming make me really excited for the future of this franchise.

We are certain to buy out one of Staal or Smith. Makes sense cap wise. (I'd even buy-out both)

To me it all depends on the asking prices. I'd keep Fast and Kreider long-term, if they ask fair money.
ADA is a no brainer have to sign him, hopefully something around 5m/y.
Stromer could be signed as a future trading piece/asset. His value is good and could even raise with another solid season.

They want to make the playoffs badly, and they can make it ...

You’ve said the same thing 112 times already, in an impressive 57 different ways.

At the end of the day there are valid reasons why Kreider should, and shouldn’t be signed.

Everyone thinks they’re standing on the right side of the fence, not nobody knows with complete certainty what the correct decision is.

If the rebuild is as successful as it should be, maybe the decision with Kreiders fate in NY might still lead down the same path.

There are multiple amounts of different blueprints that can lead to a Cup. It’s not black and white.

I’ve stopped trying to convince people CK should be moved. At the end of the day I’m a marketing manager who knows no better or worse than most people in this forum.

In Gorts I Trust, regardless of what decision he makes with Kreider (and the rest of the team).

Amen. I’m definitely trying to minimize my engagement in Kreider’s discussion lately. All’s been said a few times already so no point repeating it just to start another cycle of back and forth.

P.S. Just realized that by giving “likes” I’m actually might be encouraging other posters to continue posting on this subject.

Hank is not retiring yet. Just no way he’s going out like this. He’s way too competitive.

While I dont think he'll retire in season, being competitive doesn't mean anything right now. Hes been surpassed by two other goalies and they are winning with them. The better goalie(s) should play.

The writing is on the wall unfortunately for Lundqvist. He'll either hang them up or be bought out in the summer, unless a market for him comes to be for him to be traded.

Hes been a warrior and arguably the best goalie to wear the Rangers sweater. Every story has an ending and this is it.

So if Boston and Tampa are out on Kreider and the Isles make no sense then who’s left ?

They want to catch Carolina

Dallas ? Seems like resigning is a real option iF the offers stink

Another thing, one guy I think is — misjudged — is Ryan Lindgren.

He wasn’t a big prospect, he didn’t pwn the AHL. His first camp wasn’t out of this world. And so forth.

But this guy has had a TRANSFORMATION that is simply outstanding. When you see him in the locker room he has like no body fat. His stickhandling, skating, everything is much improved.

This guy is doing everything he did in the AHL last season, but Y2Y he is so much improved.

My biggest point with this is that he shouldn’t be brushed aside as an OK D who is doing a good job and surprising everyone for performing over his abilities. If he was in this shape and this well drilled when he was a prospect he would easily have been a top 15 pick. He is a bona fide top 4 D right now.
Exactly. And another argument for the importance of development. And also scouting. There are a lot of “late bloomers” out there, I think it stands to reason. These guys are spending so much time and effort to improve. The difference between “making it” and crashing out is not that huge. Sometimes it’s just a matter of timing and opportunity. To find a couple Lindgrens and a Lundqvist can make all the difference.

It takes a team of guys willing to take less to put together a championship team for many years. Are these the guys that will take less to win the cup? Crosby made that point and it's true. If Kreider wants to help build the winner here in New York, then he will have to sacrifice something and that's most likely money. Z will be the next one that will need to take less to stay. This is going to come up over and over again and I think this team could be competitive for a long time, but the players together have to decide to make the cap work, not just the GM. It's a team effort as they say.

we win tonight and i wonder what gorton is thinking. keep the team together and keep this run going riding shesty and georgie as far as they can take us seems reasonable.

its going to make things interesting.

also. the better the team plays the better guys like kreider and fast and skjei and strome look and the better the potential haul.

if they are moved, its more about players coming back than it is more picks. to keep this momentum going, we need to ADD talent rather than guys who aren't ready and/or picks. we have a decent stock pile of kids waiting on defense. thinner on forwards. lots of goalies.

building or rebuilding is nice, but this rebuild is ahead of schedule with the seasons that mika, bread, and tony and adam and ryan and even buchy are having. and now kreider is red hot. this group needs to keep this going.

we cannot afford to dismantle and go backwards and this is coming from someone who wanted to rebuild it after hayes was shipped out.

gorton is in a tough spot the decision he makes with #20 is gonna determine a lot for this season.

Georgiev for Donato ( scratched last game ) and Foligno ?

Fast for a 2nd

Still helps them this year and I think Donato can become a good long term piece

Could be wrong but
Blues saying not paying a 1st
Knights could but what prospect ?
Panthers would be stupid to do it

The Blues could not trade a first so long as the prospect coming back is Kyrou. If Vegas was interested in a Ranger I think its Skjei or ADA.

Stars, Caps, Islanders, Flyers are other teams.

I'd be on board with the first.

Fast, though, is more valuable (to the Rangers) than we give him credit for. I'd rather re-sign him if there's a good deal to be had then getting a 2nd.

I have no doubt Rangers want to keep him. It’s that mother loving gap.
I'd like to keep him as well . I don't see his motor or age becoming a problem in the life of the contract . That aspect of the deal was never an issue with me...it was always about the money that would be needed down the road . Anyways...I don't want to undersell on him and if the price is not right then resign him and move other pieces as needed to get it done in the future . I would sooner go longer term [8years)and less coin to get the best from our cap over the next 5 years and am not concerned about the last 2 seasons as hopefully we will have a cup by then . If not...somewhere along those 8 seasons is likely a CBO of some sort we can use like we used on Beaver....at that point it is only money for front office and they can just raise the cable prices LOL.
