40 pts is not far off from Kreider's career average. It's wayyyyyyy lower than Panarin's career average. We can talk about "what ifs", but some are a lot more realistic than others.

In three years what are the odds that Kreider is outscoring Buchnevich? I'd say Buch will likely be both the higher scoring and less expensive player.

What has Buch shown to really give an indication that he is going to blow up? There is more Max Afinigenov than Kovalev or Mogilny there.

Gaudreau? Why? I saw him get rag-dolled during the playoffs and he didn't handle it well. This team needs more shooters not drop passers.

Just for the fun of it, what could be included in a Johnny Hockey to NY deal?

Lemmy/Buch, Geo and Nils Lundkvist? They are right in a PO race.

In 2-3 years a 7m cap hit will probably be underpaying for a 50-55 point player.

Depends on his role, though. You don't want to be locked in to the guy with a NTC if he's been surpassed by other wingers and is now a third line player.

I've said it many times, there is too much risk to marry Chris Kreider for 7 years for this team. 4 years.... I would still want the bounty that trading him would bring, but I could live with it.

I'll extend the caveat that if you can get a package of a first/top prospect/something else that constitutes cheap labor, then it is way easier to live with that 7 year contract, because, you are gonna bank a lot of years with those THREE assets helping you fill out your roster cheaply. The trade assets received would help offset the overpayment. So if they want to trade him, then re-sign him, I can see how that could be a survivable "have your cake and eat it too" scenario.

But just signing him outright to a 7 year deal with no movement clauses? Horrible idea. It's doubling down on a playoff push as soon as next year for a team that should have it's sights set on bigger things farther down the road. It's trading some future flexibility and future upside for the revenue of next year's playoff run. That makes zero sense to me.

I don't want to re-sign him but I'd rather spite re-sign him than accept a lesser deal that what we want.

I'll spite-blackball Sakic, but I'd be shocked if there's not an acceptable deal out there for Kreider from someone, given what is being reported and what the prices on some of these other trades have been. There are things that we have no idea are even on the table, and I'm sure Gorton is exploring them.

Trading for Gaudreau would be wild. Don't know what it would cost.

I would say we'd probably be hearing rumblings if Gaudreau was a piece being talked about in trades but then I rememberd this is the NHL and our most prominent insiders spend more time posting pics of them drinking wine than actually breaking any news.

Edge, BBKers and bobbop provide much more interesting insight.

If i had to guess something around Buch Georgiev and Skjei could get us Gaudreau and Hanifin maybe. Maybe add Lias and a pick?
Buch and Skjei would have to be in it. They dont really have a need for Georgiev.

They money would cause a clog in the offseason. Strome would have to be dealt.

Johnny Hockey is just speculation on him changing his social media bios right?

I'd swing at this and laugh at Calgary for doing it.

Think that you're moving a pretty significant prospect. One of Miller/Nils or Kravstov.

Also we're taking on salary in this deal. What subsequent moves would come with it?

More or less, but Calgary hasn't been good this year, JG hasn't been great, he didn't perform in the POs, they are overloaded at LW -- and so forth.

But that doesn't mean much of course.

Yeah, but as his team's #1 option. Here he'd be like 3rd, and soon 4th or 5th. He'd kinda be perfect.

I think I would do Buch-Skjei-Georgiev for Gaudreau+.

That would certainly be a rebuild accelerator.

I'd still be trying to trade some pieces to get up in the draft though.

I'll tell you.... it might make me live with re-signing Kreider.

I find it odd literally nobody except this board is talking about Johnny Hockey taking things off his bio. Not even the Flames board.

So who started the fake troll attempt in here?

Buch has 12 points in his last 12 games and 16 points in his last 20. He has been playing well most of the season and was snake bitten for a time, but he has been an important part of that line's success. His play away from the puck has been much better this year.

He currently has 14 goals and 37 points in 59 games. At the same age, Kreider had 21 goals and 43 points in 79 games.

Points aside though, they are very different players with different skill sets, so it's hard to really compare them. Buch will never been Kovalev or Mogilny, but he doesn't have to be.

Talbot is a free agent after the season and Rittich the season after that. Do they have a goalie prospect they are hoping comes up soon?

This is a staggering indictment on Howden and frankly quinn for stapling our top franchise prospect to him for most of the season. Kakko should have been nowhere near Howden all year.

How good has our 4th line been this year with Smith on it? Worst in the league? Bottom 3? Bottom 5?

It’s not our kids on D or the scoring lines that haven’t delivered.
