I like Keane but these are the types of deals we needed to make. Young player, in a position of need for us, and a big player to boot. We are log jammed on right side d anyway, I like it

Had a feeling Gauthier was on Rangers radar. Maybe this could be Rangers insurance policy to replace Kreider once they get rid of him. Gauthier is a major goal scorer, always has been. Almost same size too.

Considering their depth on RD, this makes sense. Nils is probably already a better player than Keane. There is a log-jam on the right at the moment. This team needs someone in the mold of Gauthier (6'4", 225lbs). Now, is Gautheir going to get a look in NY any time soon? That will be interesting to see.

I really don't think Colorado is going to be looking to deal off of their roster unless it's Jost and maybe Zadorov. Even if they land a non-rental asset like Buchnevich.

I also have a hard time seeing the Rangers dealing 2/3rds of their top line at the deadline without one of the following being true:
1. A premium on Buch that's too hard to pass up.
2. An NHL body being included that the Rangers think can be a top-six option.
3. A follow-up trade that brings in a young-ish, top-six skater. Something that sends maybe some of the pieces from a Kreider deal, some from a Buch deal, and maybe a guy like Georgiev in a futures-based deal to a team that really needs to kick start a rebuild.

He will be called up immediately imo, why not

Maybe. I have seen Gautheir play once this year. Had at least 3 goals during a game they were feasting on the Wolfpack. However, I don't know about his skating in an NHL sense. If he has a good enough defensive game, he could easily improve the 4th line until other spots open up. I guess we will fins out soon enough what the Rangers are thinking.

I'd have preferred sending one of our non-Miller/Jones LHD prospects for him, or maybe a Skinner/Kjellberg type, but overall i don't really have any issues with the trade

Makes sense on a number of levels.

Rangers like Gauthier and want wingers --- which we've disuccsed.

Canes and Rangers had talked for a while, including discussions about goalies. So names were exchanged.

Gauthier also fits into the previously dicussed mold of guys coming from 2016 draft that they'd be looking at, and who might be available.

I really like Keane, but the Rangers depth on that right side is just insane. So this is them dealing from a position of strength.

More to come...

Couple things on this kid. He’s a fitness freak. Eating training you name it. Father was a body builder. Kid is absolutely ripped.

scores a lot of goals. Right shot right winger Former first round pick in 2016. So we turned Holden into a 2016 first rounder.

was a final cut in October Canes have a lot of wingers.

great trade for both teams.

Gauthier is the type of prospect this team needs.

Also worth noting he’s slightly under a PPG in the A with 26 goals in 44 games.

This is at worst a wash and at best a potential home run for the Rangers. RHD was an organizational strength and wingers were a weakness. Keane is blocked by Trouba, DeAngelo, Fox, and Lundkvist. Great trade. Should be more to come as Edge states.
