I like Newhook but man some of you make him out to be this cant miss prospect. A 1st and him for Kreider alone is fair. That is the price you pay for the top player on the trade market when you are going for it. And yet were gona add Georgiev to it? Just keep Georgiev separate.

This also isnt solely directed at you @HockeyBasedNYC

that was my point. While that return would be fine and I’d certainly live with it, I don’t think it accurately measures up to what Kreider AND Georgiev are worth. It’s better to deal them separately.

But I seriously doubt Newhook is even on the table so this is all moot

I believe his fancies say otherwise...he's been bad.

I could see Skjei being moved for the right price but it leaves the LD pretty vulnerable for now. Even if you think in the future it'll be better, for the present it's Staal, Lindgren, Hajek/Rykov which is pretty meh

I feel like you hope a guy like Newhook becomes as good as Kreider is today but the calculus is always now versus later and cost over the years and what your window of contention is. The Rangers could literally trade Kreider for a 1st and Newhook and still "lose" that trade in terms of impact if the 1st and Newhook don't turn out to be as good as Kreider

With all the LHD getting moved, there is some scarcity on teams looking to fill that void. Tons of movement in that today.

Teams that may have been seeking a rental might need to explore guys with term and Skjei fits the bill. Top 4 D in the league and we've seen his name floated a lot this season.

Gorton is going to be extra busy this week.

Would you trade potentially your top prospect for a chance to hoist the Stanley Cup? I’d do it every year. If Blake Coleman is worth a 1st and a decent prospect like Nolan Foote, then Kreider is worth at least that much. Asking for a 1st and Bowen Byram is not outlandish if it helps you win a Cup. Byram could turn out to be a bust, who knows. That’s the thing with prospects, they are hit or miss sometimes.

Georgiev gives them a goalie that will help get them some wins. Andersson is in need of a change of scenery and might be a decent depth centerman for the Avs. With Rantanen out until at least the start of the playoffs they will need the offensive depth that Kreider will provide. Remember that Gorton is dealing from a position of strength because I am sure other teams are inquiring about Kreider too. In one or two years the Avs will have less cap space when they have to extend a guy like Makar for at least $7-$8 million per season. Their window with these young guys is this season and next before the cap crunch eventually gets to them.

That depends. Each organizations top prospects can vary greatly in quality.

I know opinions vary, some of who's I really respect, I just am not liking Jost. Yet I fully admit I could be totally wrong.

I understand why Newhook is a want, yet really there are other really good prospects, at least in my opinion, who were taken other than him.

I kind of am wish casting that Nashville is looking to make a push and would move Tomasino, or Washington with McMichael. Although not so sure the Rangers are looking that far out.

Y'all seriously need to stop deluding yourselves into thinking that Sakic is even considering moving Byram or Newhook for a rental.

Just do yourselves the favor and stop mentioning it, for everyone's sake.
No ones talking about Byram. But yeah Newhook is a pipe dream . Kaut if we’re lucky.

Certainly hasn’t stopped teams from trading for rentals yet. There’s been a bunch of names moved so I would imagine these GMs are using the media as an outlet to drive prices down.

If the market was truly that ludicrous the GMs of the teams with guys that have been moved would still be holding onto their assets and hoping their demands are met.

I think the dreams of Newhook are ridiculous.

Middle-6 ceiling types are perfectly acceptable for a rental. We need those players too.

I agree that the rangers won't getr someone like newhook

I just think it's all a little silly if you realize that newhook will be lucky to be as good as kreider. the values placed on prospects are both absurd but also sometimes practical when you think of the salary cap and age considerations

e: everyone's hoping they can acquire a fantastic player for an expendable prospect that won't amount to anything and it's pretty funny if you think about it and their statements of outrage about asking prices

Also when you consider that rentals don’t tend to result in Cups.

I just tortured all the Islanders fans in my office. I doctored up a fake report from TSN that the Isles traded for Joe Thornton sending a 1st round pick in 2020 and Keiffer Bellows. They're all screaming for Lamoriello's head here.

Haa..I love this.. Good job lol

Can you imagine if Washington were to swoop in and snag Kreids?

That would just be nasty..

If memory serves, Sakic wasn't willing to trade that pick when Newhook dropped to Colorado so I can't imagine he has any intention of trading Newhook now.

That’s not even really my point.

In some ways, if Kreider has enough value to bring in Newhook, I’d almost rather bring in Jost and Bowers (or something like that).

TSN says the Rangers will be giving Kreider one last offer to look at before the deadline.

Doubt it’s anything close to what he’ll command on the open market

While I was fully on board with trading Skjei when the smoke started to truly collect a couple weeks ago, I've eased off.

Someone mentioned it, and the more I think about it the more hesitant I am to move on from struggling defensemen.

Ruff is the problem, not our defensemen.

Keep Skjei, run Lindgren-Trouba, Skjei-Fox, Staal-DeAngelo

This is plausible, but there were definitely adjustments made system side about 2 months ago, along with individual improvements. It's shown with how the team has performed recently.

Skjei is the choice to be moved due to his ability to return an impact forward and the sheer abundance of LHD coming through the system.

We still have Staal under contract and I do not see a buyout in the future. His contract will just expire. Lindgren is proving himself to be an NHLer. Rykov and Hajek have to be learned about soon. Then the guys outside the organization atm.

Miller is rising and probably turning pro this summer. Reunanen has a deal and will be in the AHL next season, at minimum. Next you have guys like Robertson, who was a 1st round graded guy. 1 year left in the CHL, but could play in Hartford. He already signed his ELC. Jones is a while away, which is fine.

Could Skjei be moved next season? Absolutely. They should listen on him because there just isn't much out there available. This could be one guy that has more value around the league than on our team, and that alone is reason to explore.
