I guess where we differ is, I don't think he's as replaceable as you think and trading him without a suitable replacement makes this team much, much worse next year. They're back to being a one line team with two good centers and not enough wings to contribute. Need more than Panarin and Kakko.
Good point. Getting a great return for CK is very appealing. But then, where are we? Get another FA forward? Probably a higher price point. There’s really no one internally ready to step up. They’d probably have to backfill CK’s spot with the CK trade. Not easy. It’s a legit question.
I’d add that VK replacing a traded PB might make more sense.
Not that every spot has to be filled the same way, and of course there are more creative ways to build the roster. But I don’t think JG and company want to have fewer north-south types. And there aren’t that many big moves left and obviously not a ton of money to play with.

I'd bet Buchnevich being traded before any of the other young pieces are. His RFA status makes him cost controlled for this year and the next and he'll still be an RFA at the end of that contract. Tatar netted a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd from Vegas even if it was an overpayment from a team that felt they were going to be picking in the 27-31 range.

With the number of GMs saying they want term and not a pure rental, Buch should be a prime target with his age, contract, and restricted fa status.
If Gorton did in fact want to move Buch last summer, he might be as good as gone. If he's not in the plans, his value will only go down in general with days off his cost controlled years. It'll make room for re-signing Tony and likely Fast before Staal, Henrik, and Smith, and Shattenkirk's contracts come off the book.

Ugh?? So you think he’s aware of the Rangers goalie situation? Sounds like he’s lost and needs to do his homework
It’s John Shannon. Of course he knows.

(I think you need to do your HW on who these guys are. Shannon knows slats. Shannon has ranger sources)

You guys are reading the tweet wrong. He’s saying ‘yeah I know there are all these rumors about Georgiev being moved. But why are they moving a potential young stud who could be their #1 next season, just to move him to make things more comfortable or something?’

ugh, yeah. Something tells me the Rangers aren’t going with 3 goalies b/c they have one stud with no plan

Shannon must have gotten a text from Sather to put that tweet out

“Georgiev *could* be our #1 of the future, he’s worth a lot!”

This is also possible.

I don't want to get too excited, but reading the tea leaves it sounds like we're going to end up getting a lot more for Geo than originally anticipated.

Dude. You got as much a clue to what they’re doing as I do.

I’m sorry I responded. I’m busy catching up on the thread.

Let’s go rangers

So they brought out the ShackMeister again, which is their burger with fried shallots, Shack Sauce, and cheese. I eat like a fatass, so mine was a double, with a side of cheese fries. It feels like it's about 25 out right now though so I did convince myself to skip a shake.
Good defense regarding the shake!

That's not accurate. It's more about moving Buch to keep Kreider. Maybe that's not how they see it which is fine. No one here knows how they see it.

But it's more fun talking about this than it is talking about Anderson asking for a trade or Hank waiving his NMC.

Edge's point of getting a "different" type of winger would play into that. A more defensively minded winger could be cheaper due to less offensive output. Maybe evven Lemuix becomes that guy, then at that point you can consider selling Buch for just his cap dollars, then use those cap dollars for Kreider's raise

the 3 goalie system and everyone knowing that we need to move a goalie no doubt is hurting his value but the expansion draft has zero impact. we'd have no issue protecting him with Hank a free agent and Shesterkin exempt. I don't think Mirtle actually took the time to look it up and is mistaken
BS... I get my price for Geo... this isn’t Ranta or Talbot.

Hank can make 8.5 watching games next season.

We get what or who we want or walk

Really? Doesn’t appear you nor John know the Rangers have 3 goalies up, their names or what’s going on. Unless you really believe this 3 goalie system is here to stay.

Our best players today will not be our best players forever. I can’t fathom how you have zero concerns about committing 50M for a 29 year old.

The contract will be fine for the few years - but happens in year 3, 4, 5 and beyond?

You say we have a lot of money coming off the books which is 100% accurate, but you turn a blind eye at the fact that we’re going to have a lot of players that need new contracts.
People aren’t saying ‘let Kreider write his own check’. In fact I’d say virtually everyone who wants CK back adds the ‘reasonable deal’ caveat.

Oh Man the comments on that tweet are cringe-worthy and show how many fans don’t really understand a lot of stuff. They just like social media and likes and mentions.

And I think that's why there's some...hesitation... internally to either get locked into too many immovable contracts, or why there's been some hesitation to further explore the Nylander talks that they've had off and on for a while.
The #1LD is more important than nylander. (And resigning Kreider) We’re going nowhere without one. Everything is fools gold until then

Makes you wonder if karlsson was healthy and didn’t prove his durability concerns if the rangers would have signed both bread and EK

How you ask. Skjei and Kreider would have been traded during last summer most likely

not sure how often or ever are rumored trade offers confirmed. Dreger and Mirtle discussing it today.

like I said If that’s not even enough in Jeff Gortons eyes then we’re really not trying to trade Georgiev

Which could mean one thing... But I'm not going to say it. We discussed it earlier

Part of me wonders if Dubas even has the stones to trade Nylander to begin with. I feel like that would not go over well in Toronto. Then again nothing ever really goes over well in Toronto.

Rangers have liked Kapanen going back to McD. If he's on the table, I'm sure they are listening.

Personally, I'm not as high on Kapanen as some, but that's just me.
Up until this season I liked the Swedish kid Johansson more. But the combo of an abrasive feisty decently skilled forward who is a Finn feels like a good fit

I think he's a good player, who brings energy, but I've never quite been as sold on the offensive ability as some.

I think his production is probably a little inflated in Toronto, and he's probably more of a 15 goal/40 point player than he is the 20 goal guy from last year, or the nearly 50 point player he's pacing at this year.

I think he's a good support player, I've never quite seen as him as a second liner on a really good teams. But as a useful third line player, maybe alongside Chytil and Lemieux, there's some intrigue there.
Lemeix + or what Pepe will become next year. But we need more of that and he might rub off competitively on kakko

I realize this, but I think a lot of people are expecting a hometown discount instead of looking at what the market generally has been for player like Kreider. I think he realizes this is his last big payday.

Buchnevich is a guy that, I think, is going to figure it out and when he does we’re all going to lament trading him for a 2nd rounder or whatever he’s going to get.
Eh, this was my stance for a long time, but he's coming up on 25. I think he's likely around what he's going to be. And I have no issue with what he is.
