You know the way the roster is forming Duchene makes a lot of sense
Not with a contract that’s going to be over $10 million per.

I can see it. It all depends on what you’ve said before. Do the rangers need the cap space as the shopping continues to take place in the next couple weeksIf Shattenkirk can have a good season (not even necessarily a great one), I think there's a market for him this time next year.
The challenge will be that coinciding with the continued development and progress of both ADA and Fox. It's not impossible mind you, it would just be something that has to be worked out.
I could see this playing out if shattenkirk is moved or bought outI think that Smith is the 12th forward/7th defenseman. Plays on the 4th line and drops back on D when needed. I do not see him as a blocking anyone. Or at least I hope not.
Doesn't make a lick of sense for the Rangers. You know the way the roster is forming Duchene makes a lot of sense
Make them earn it.there is nothing ideal about a rebuilding team not having spots in the lineup for 2 key youngsters (howden/andersson)
I bet Kreider would go to Phoenix for a year. Plays with step, income tax free state. Don’t think he extends there though. Arizona is the only spot kessel is rumored to waive for.Figure most of the Canadian teams are on it, maybe not Toronto or Vancouver.
So Ottawa, Montreal, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton. Thats 5 for sure, maybe as many as 7.
Who are the US teams on it? Buffalo and Arizona would be 2 I'd wager on (who are also 2 teams I could see having the most interest.) Carolina perhaps as well.
Make them earn it.
Kakko, Kravstov, Howden, Andersson, and to a lesser degree Chytil & Lemeiux. None of these players deserve to have a spot just given to them. we need capable NHL players who can slot up and down the lineup for those who fall short. If all these players are able to step up, then those capable NHL players become expendable.
I would not be surprised if 1 or more of our young forwards need demotions throughout the year
I think it should. Minny not getting much love right now. Players with NTCs don't want to waive for there. UFAs don't wanna sign there. They have limited options in order to improve their team.I wonder if Minnesota missing out on Kessel is open with the 12th. Suddenly Gorton is the master of leverage and they are between a rock and a hard place. Zucker is weird situation.
Something around #16 for Kreider may work.
Colorado is in go for it mode and they need a 2nd line.
Listen guyso you are handing Kakko who isn't even drafted yet a spot on the 1st line and kravtsov who has never played before a spot on the 2nd line...but andersson and howden who were in the nhl lets yet need to 'earn' their spots so ryan strome and boo nieves can play? got it
Listen guy
they are projections. I'm not handing anybody anything. This is just how I see it shaking out. That isn't going to be the lineup every game. It is going be very dynamic.
you were concerned there weren't enough spots for youngsters, I explained that I believe there needs to be real competition. Howden was one of the worst forwards in the NHL for a large portion of last season, and Andersson couldn't stick in a forward group which featured Brendan Smith. Pardon me if I think they should earn their spots.
FWIW, the other players I mentioned have to earn their spots too. I just think they have a better shot at it.
take a step back off the ledge. Breathe.

I guess I misread the tone then. My badlol I agree with you on not handing kids spots which is why I wouldn't just blow every veteran out of town...but no way neither of those guys are in the lineup...my reply was only half serious
Eh, I want higher than that.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that.Ok this has gone unmentioned so far...
When Jeff Gorton was questioned about using buyouts he said he doesn't know yet, but to ask him again Friday when he may have a better answer.
Whats he up to?

50/50 by the draft. If he is not traded at the draft, i actually lean on the side of him coming back extended.50-50 by the Draft or this year?
Honestly not getting the Hayes vibe.None of Gorton's responses when asked about CK inspire confidence that he will be re-signed. It kind of reminds me of the Hayes situation.
I think that a realistic path to Panarin would start with trading Kreider and getting one of the centers that they like. May not be ready next year, but can play year after.I would guess there is about a 40% chance he gets traded by the draft. Are they seriously planning to pursue Panarin or really want to draft a Center?
I believe that Kreider being on NYR has nothing to do with Panarin. I just think that there is a path. But Gorton has a plan and probably several hot routes as well. And doubt he is deviating. If you were him, would you want to go to Buffalo or Arizona? Probably not. I could maybe see him going to Edmonton for a year of skating with McDavid to boost his stats before his UFA pay day. Maybe they just want to get a decent pick/player to clear out cap space for Panarin. No one really knows Gorton is thinking.
