Didn't Friedman say last night that the Panthers were the frontrunners for Panarin?

that's been the default assumptions since the deadline. Maybe he spoke with Panarin's camp who said Panarin has chosen Florida in his mind already.

I didn't watch the hit, and I don't remember who posted it, but (and maybe I'm remembering the post wrong) it seemed like the Panthers were considered the clear #1 choice instead of it being 'Panthers and Rangers are the front runners'

That’s true, but they can’t be close to a deal without being able to talk to him... which isn’t allowed till Sunday, and FLa didn’t pony up for the rights.

You mean like how everyone here was upset at trading Pionk and a 1st for Trouba?

That was a different situation. We all knew the Trouba deal was excellent value, and that is an example of using the value of a draft pick smartly. I just don't think necessarily turning over the entire roster is a smart strategy.

If the plan is signing Panarin and trading Kreider (and Gorton getting what he wants), that's totally fine. If the plan is using Buchnevich to trade up into the first (to take an unknown commodity), then trading Kreider for picks instead of exploring re-signing him, I just think spinning the tires turning roster players --> picks, then doing the same thing year after year, you ultimately become the Oilers or Sabres. Eventually you have an entire mixed-bag roster of guys in their early/mid-20s. Some will be great, a lot will not have entirely defined roles, and with no established players up front in the fold outside of one or two guys, makes it much harder to actually turn the corner.

I think the Rangers got very lucky the past two months. Getting the No. 2 pick (an immediate impact potential top-six forward) and Trouba falling into their laps are two moves that drastically accelerated the initial plan. I don't think they're necessarily "rebuilding" any more, so much as retooling now. If that's the case, I think turning more players into draft picks would actually be counterproductive to where they currently are at the moment.

Yeah, that's the part I'm not really understanding either, unless all the parties just decided to allow it to happen, but quietly. Or this is a very recent thing and none of the media guys are picking up on it because they're all at the NHL awards tonight (which both feel pretty unlikely to me too)

Maybe that’s the hint, @BBKers said the temperature was rising hint hint Calgary Flames? I’ve had enough trying to cipher all of these posts, I’m getting drunk and going sleep. I’ll sort through the 20 new pages tomorrow morning. Stay safe my friends.

Puljujarvi and his agent saying he won’t play another game for Edmonton

Does another disgruntled player force their way onto the Rangers

We’re 2/2 this season with Fox and Trouba

If he comes cheap, hell to the yes. I have a feeling we’d give up something we might not necessarily want to part with though.

That tweet is from a guy who doesn’t even cover the NHL and it’s also not possible given they aren’t permitted to talk until Sunday and would be subject to significant tampering penalties if they did.

This day just gets worse and worse. RIP.

Thanks man. Happened a long time ago, but the dude was my intro into hockey contacts. Great dude.

Learned a ton about the Rangers in the 80s. Why certain trades happened. Challenges in the market. Off-ice shenanigans.

I truly feel that the game of hockey has a the best athletes out there.

Luck is the residue of design.

For sure. You hear a thing and then it's not a thing. I get that. That's the game.

But that's why I don't want everyone to get overexcited just yet, because @Edge doesn't deserve to be nailed to the cross if nothing pans out.

So there's two of three balls in the air right now.

I'll reveal more when things shake (or don't).

The option we've discussed, involving Kreider, is still in play. Then there's the other one, which we'll discuss one way or the other in a few days.

The third possibility is smaller, but could exist on its own, or be a part of the second option.

Not worried one way or the other.
