Same shit since McDavid got drafted.
If the Oilers fail to win a cup with McDrai, they are the absolute most choked franchise in pro sports.
Agreed. To be handed not one but two elite players (and only because they sucked really hard) and to not win anything with them should preclude them from any future in the NHL.

And until McDavid signs on the dotted line there's zero guarantee he sticks around. Another failure in spring might sway him...

Skinner has been the team's starting goalie for the better part of the last three seasons. Gibson, on the other hand is starting as many games as Pickard this season.

There's no argument for Skinner's play this year from me, but assuming Gibson's short period of improved results extends to a significanly larger role is a frivolous gamble. There's a much larger sample size of poor performance and prone proneness to injury.

As for the Blackwood trade. It wasn't just a 1st. That's a pick, Podkolzin and Skinner, followed by a five year, $5m extension. More risk.
Future risk is less important than current risk.
This isn’t a club with a bright future, this is a club that will probably be rebuilding or doing a massive retool in 3-5 years. Our best chances to win the cup were last year and this season. After that our players ages and salaries are no longer good.
You can’t sit there and go “well it’s risky to grab another goalie” when it’s far more risky to keep the current one who is not an NHL starter quality goalie. You just can’t. It’s wasting the season.

I don't have much faith when the media is already starting their annual 'dollar in dollar out' excuses.

It'll just be for a depth d, and a bottom 6 grit plug followed up with "Well Stan Bowman didn't have much to work with, because his team is up to the cap so they did their best since they're in a dollar in dollar out situation."

Rishaug is such a comedian.

I could see Matheson and a retained Evans.

And a first round exit with Skinner posting a 850 save percentage.

Its true though.
This team just doesnt have the cap space with Kanes contract in play.
Good GM's find a way. Either put up or shut up when you have McDrai in a cup window rather than go for the bare minimum in a bottom 6 grit plug.
Absolutely tired of always hearing but muh cap space. Who's fault is that? Oilers shoot themselves in the foot and then make excuses on why it happened. Enough.

It gets even worse when their in-season acquisitions have been basically shit. Podz and Kapanen can leave anytime now.

The fact that this organization still hasn't won 1st in their division with McDrai on the team is an absolute joke too. f***ing comical.

If someone has, its probably Kane. This is about the same time where he typically loses the locker room, ha ha. I hope not, in both cases.
Definitely a possibility. Don't get me wrong, if it's even true, I dont think that it is Connor for sure. I just wouldn't be surprised if it was, especially with how he has played lately here, but looking great for Canada.

Or maybe this NMC news just has me cynical at the moment. A month ago it looked like the world was our oyster, so much possibility at the deadline. Now, we look to have little to no options.

The Carolina game seemed like what? That was a game that neither team looked interested in winning. We had a good 2nd and was worse in the other 3 periods. The XGF that game was basically 3-3.
Carolina played awful and for the most part we matched them.
We did have a strong good first half of the season but as the season has gone on and games are more competitive the team can’t handle it. It’s the players ages catching up to them.
You're making that conclusion based on one terrible 5 game stretch. I find it hard to believe that the entire team's game went to shit basically on a dime. Beating a good Carolina team was a start, now they can build on that.

You saying it's because the players are old doesn't make it true. We won't know that until we see how they play down the stretch.

The biggest risk of all is doing nothing but trot out skinner. First of all he’s not good enough to take us to a cup. Second, the guy is going to ride the team success, that happens despite him, into a big contract.

If a goalie isn’t priority might as well be a seller, not my fault Skinner will sink us round 1

Maybe they can get past LA again and insulate that turd long enough, but I don't think we want any part of Colorado, Vegas, or Winnipeg (if their new systems play under their new coach is legit) with this roster as is + some middling forward add.

The other problem is a lot of our go-to plays and Skinner's weaknesses have been better scouted by teams. That's what happens when you go on a run, you don't get to keep secrets from other teams. Teams will zero in on Skinner's deficiencies when prepping for a playoff round, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Yup. The teams around them have made moves of worth and we're still scouring the waiver wire and hearing about "Dollar in, dollar out" yet-a-f***ing-gain.

That's why its f***ing frustrating. Don't get me started on McCrimmon and VGK next. You know that man already has tools up his sleeves on acquiring good players again even if his team has lack of assets or up to the cap.

Us? Never ever find a way to exploit a loophole or be assertive enough to acquire good players, so they're always comfortable on getting inferior players and then wonder why this team still hasn't won a cup.
Team obviously needs a goalie? Best we can do is a Carrick/Bjugstad 2.0. f*** right off.

A goalie can the biggest priority identified by everyone in management but if the only goalie available is John Gibson, and they can't go into LTIR, I don't think bringing in a goalie is reasonable. A forward for the top six would be fantastic, and a defenceman to knock Klingberg out of the lineup.

What "top six forward" is available for dirt cheap? We are paying Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner 7 million dollars to be "top six forwards", how's that working out?

He probably gave Klingberg a nmc as well lol

Skinner will sink us. All year long he has regressed and keeps letting in bad goals and the team is forced to play from behind. Remember game 7 of the final last year? The winning goal was a unscreened wristshot any NHL goalie should have. Florida just went into lockdown mode after that. Teams play different when they are behind or have the lead. The bad goal trend keeps continuing and its going to sink us again.

Then good luck to the Oilers on getting out of the 1st/2nd round while having two of the bottom worst ranking goalies in net.

Say what you will about Vegas, they have loyalty to nobody and will do anything to win. If you suck, you're out the door. There was a lot of grumbling about their treatment of MAF while conveniently forgetting that he cost them that series against Montreal. They let their Conn Smythe winner walk and didn't miss a beat. They do their homework. Meanwhile we throw darts at the board...

Show me where I'm assuming champ

You just had another poster break down Yaks decisions.
I just brought up JP admitting he was to blame. He's on video saying he refused to work on English also. The org is on video saying he has communication issues and is stubborn.
I also pointed how other players who have succeeded put in effort in the offseason.

It's like when Marancin admitted he didn't want to put on weight despite the orgs plea for 2 years, and here we are, another young player out of the NHL early cuz they refused advice. You can't put 2 and 2 together?

What part of this is so hard for you to understand? It's literally lamens terms at this point.

Draisaitl didn't fix his skating in the AHL. He fixed it in the summer.

Well on the positive side, I don't think Florida is who we should even be worried about, likely problems will much sooner than that with this team + some middling forward add type of team.
