Putting the clues together. I'm thinking it's Edmonton ?

4 or 5 pieces. Edge said we would inhale at first--so we're most likely going start by saying really, and OK maybe not so bad. Edge also said he could live with it. 25 year old player involved.

Buch and ( 25 year old--which most of us don't want to give up ) Shattenkirk ( retaining 25% )
For
Lucic ( inhale--aka why )
Pulji
8OA

5 pieces

Edmonton pays to get rid of Lucic 2 years earlier then Shattenkirk. Money we retain on Shattenkirk can pay for Buch's raise.

We get Pulji whom maybe if he gets his head out of the sands of Edmonton can put up some good numbers.

Cap room is not a problem as Staal Shattenkirk's retention and Smith all come off the books to pay the last 2 years of Lucic--maybe even a buyout somewhere down the road.

Last the joy of the 8OA pick.

Now going completely crazy tomorrow we deal CK at the draft for additional first rounder.

3 picks in the top 15 picks.
You put the clues together wrong then, because Edge said the Rangers have offered Shattenkirk at 50% retained and have had no takers

I took a quick nap and you guys haven't solved it yet? I'm disappointed. I still think it's Buffalo. I think Edge said that they were talking to Buffalo about Vesey, but hoping to make it a bigger deal. Or maybe I just dreamed it. But Jimmy is 26. Never mind. I might just go back to sleep.

@Edge said that the Rangers are getting no interest in Shattenkirk even at 50% retention. I’m guessing that includes going to Edmonton, which is likely a team he won’t approve a deal to.

Yeah I thought the same thing as far as no interest but to get rid of Lucic ?

Your also right that Shattenkirk may not want to go there but maybe Edmonton can offer him second line minutes instead of third paring with us which would lead to more playing time

Not much to go on just trying to think whom we could move to match some of the dollars

Just don’t buyout Shatty , that cap hit stinks and they can just let him play and see what the deadline brings

Edmonton is focused on organizational depth. They want to bring in more NHL level depth, on defense and on the wings.

For wingers, they want guys they want guys that can check.

I do hope we trade for Puljujarvi. I really do. I will spend some time on Saturday going through previous roster building threads and pulling some of the most absurd proposals I can find. Kreider for Puljujarvi, Skjei for Puljujarvi, etc.

Then, when he comes here and everyone sees how bad he sucks... ;)

My overall point here is sometimes to be careful what you wish for. I'd be fine taking a flyer on Puljujarvi as long as its a cheap price. But if we traded Kreider or Skjei for him? We would be in rough shape.

I consider myself pretty spiteful, but man

In Lebrun's rumblings blog he was talking about the action on RHD. Seems like everyone is in play. Definitely going to put a damper on any Shattenkirk talks. But someone is going to be without. He singled out Vancouver as a buyer. They could be eyeing up Barrie or Myers. Myers probably sticks with the Jets. Barrie has been available forever but never moves.

Vancouver was stuck on the new Edler deal over the 3rd year and his NMC demand. All over the expansion draft. Again, Shattenkirk will be UFA the summer of the draft. They have had trouble landing the pieces while truly attempting to be relevant again. Put a pin in this one for another 3 weeks.

I don't doubt Edge's credentials for a second but Brooks himself only bats .500. Not getting excited just yet.

@Edge has said these types of things are always fluid and volatile, and can fall apart at any time. And @Edge is a veteran of these situations. But, it's also why he's said he's very careful about what he reveals, for a number of reasons. And, I consider him to be a valuable resource on this site. We've seen previously vetted insiders disappear because while they provided information, it just wasn't worth the aggravation. I would prefer we don't see that happen again.

For sure, things fall apart for various reasons all the time.

For instance, we know that we had deals in place during the 2016 draft with Edmonton and Arizona, those didn't go through due to certain happenings.

But its fun to speculate as long as people don't get angry if nothing happens. We need some way to kill the next 48 hours.

Nothing to even do with .500. Seems like he’s giving as much info in real time as he can without risking burned sources. These talks are fluid. If nothing happens, he was still “right.”

You have to respect a guy for not burning his sources. There are guys who post here that work in hockey and things like that can affect them professionally.

From @Edge this morning

I don't know who these guys are talking to, but I've encountered a grand total of zero people who thought a reunion with Hayes was happening and/or had the Rangers in on Karlsson.

At this point, I think anyone whom the Rangers don't flat out say "no" to is going to be considered someone they are "interested" in.

You want to know names the Rangers were/are monitoring? Trouba (obviously), Panarin, Nylander, Marner. They're curious to see how the Tkachuk contract talks go. They're seeing if they can get a high pick and a prospect they like for Kreider. They're seeing how much Buffalo like Vesey, and if that team is interested in an expanded deal. They're checking in with Arizona now that Kessel is supposedly off the market. They're trying to see if there's any last ditch hope to trade Smith or Shatty, even with 50 percent retentions.

There, I just saved some of you about 30 mins of reading multiple articles that aren't even focused on what's actually going on. It's like 1997 all over again.

Vesey fast

That Strome guy would be a pretty good fit there too

One of the most respected posters on this board who is vetted as an insider did this all for a joke? Got it.
That’s not what’s up at all.

He just got told by whoever was talking to him that it was getting too ‘hot’

My take at least
