Almost worth trading for Eichel just for the avatar opportunity.

So the rumor is Blackwell to Seattle? That’s who I would have selected among unprotected Rangers.

Bill and Ted play a weirdly integral a role in my life right now so I love this more than you know. My (almost) 4yo daughter LOVES the movies, and I don't hesitate to indulge her. She saw me off to work yesterday by exclaiming "Be excellent to each other!" before slamming the door in my face.

I love her.

Drury working on Kreider to Seattle i bet.

Kreider does do a lot of things this team needs, but it would obviously help a lot. You can run the below lineup or even put Goodrow with Panarin and have Kravy play LW. Lots of opportunities without Kreider on the team because we are so wing heavy.

Laf - Zib - Buch
Panarin - Strome - Kravstov
Goodrow- Chytil - Kakko
Barron - Rooney - Gauthier

It is a shame the Rangers did not see more of Barron. If he can contribute, it opens up a lot more trade opportunities. Barron moves up to 3 LW, Goodrow opposite Panarin. Sign another one of the names that have been thrown out to play 3LW/4LW depending on where Barron slots in and this is without having any idea what Buch returns and Strome still on the roster. Obviously Kakko/Kravstov can swap with the below, but Chytil and Kakko were good together in their time last year.

Laf - Zib - Kravstov
Panarin - Strome - Goodrow
Barron - Chytil - Kakko
X - Rooney - Gauthier

You also have the rumor that the Rangers have touched base with Hyman...never going to happen but that gives you one person per line that has done dirty work on their lines. Hyman/Goodrow/Kakko and even Gauthier has shown he can forecheck. I think Barron and Gauthier could be hard to handle. You could swap out Hyman with Coleman, same idea but if that was the case I would swap Kakko to the first line, Coleman next to Strome, and Goodrow next to Chytil, something like that.

Laf - Zib - Hyman
Panarin - Strome - Goodrow
Kravstov - Chytil - Kakko
Barron - Rooney - Gauthier

I dont see why the Rangers would make a side deal so that Seattle selected Blackwell. I can see Seattle approaching the Rangers and saying, "Hey, we really like Blackwell and X player (IE Hajek, Gauthier or may be even Buch or Strome). What can we work out so we can get both?"

Hajek has been one of the worst 3 defensemen in the league the past two years, so why anyone would want him is beyond me.

I actually just thought of a way the Carp tweet makes sense:

Rangers submit their list protecting 7F, 3D, 1G including Hajek as the third D since they essentially have no one better to protect there. Francis calls Drury to say, “Actually, I’d prefer Hajek to any of the forwards you left exposed. What say we make a deal whereby you send him to me and I’ll pick and return whomever you want, effectively allowing you to protect 8/2/1 instead of 7/3/1.” SEA then takes Blackwell and trades him back for Hajek.

That kinda makes sense? (Though why Drury would remain hung up on Blackwell rather than asking for another asset remains a mystery to me.)

Maybe. But while Blackwell is an extra forward here, he's shown that he is better suited to a top 6 role or a skill line role than a bottom 6 role. Seattle was starved for players like that.

This is good news for us in my opinion. Gauthier is more likely to fulfill a need for this team than Blackwell.

I would've selected Blackwell, too. I'm just not sure that Gauthier will ever figure it out.

You got means and opportunity, but what the heck would the motive be? Why would Francis want Hajak? ;)

except I’m fairly certain that can’t happen. You can’t trade a player back once they’ve been selected for at least a year I believe.
What carp said makes no sense on its face. If Blackwell was submitted to the league, he’s on Seattle.
