I would've selected Blackwell, too. I'm just not sure that Gauthier will ever figure it out.

I'm not sure either but I'd rather we take the chance with him here than watch him blossom somewhere else. He's got tools and we can see what he is with very low risk over the next year or so. I have high hopes for him in Gallant's system.

Even if Gauthier were to turn into Blackwell that would be fine. He's 24 and 6'4 227.. I would absolutely love to keep him and see what Gallant can do with him in the bottom six.. We need guys who play a N/S physical game, his size/speed allows him to do that, we have a ton of E/W skill players.

I agree with you, we don't need to get into Eichel's head to find red flags. We have objective reasons to not make the trade which you outlined.

Gotcha, no accusation, just attaching my thoughts a little more on the sitch. I'm not sure I really see all of those other instances as 'taking advantage of a guy with a character flaw', but I get where you're coming from. As we agreed, there is so many reasons why they should be just avoiding the situation.

Wade Redden was, by all accounts to this day, one of the greatest dudes people run across. He had some personal issues and maturing to do too, guess where he didn't work that out? Smack dab on Broadway. It actually low key scares me to pull open an app or tab and see a headline that Drury traded for him.

you would seriously rely on an unbinding handshake deal to a player to sign a contract over 300 days from now at the earliest?

what happens if he comes here and pops 35/35 playing with panarin and demands more money to sign?

What team would that be thats gonna offer him the money and term that we will that would be in a better position to succeed and go for a cup? Plus with what better core would he have around him than here in NYR?

I would rely on the draw of the city, talent around him, position to succeed/play for a cup, and a year in NY to be sold.

except I’m fairly certain that can’t happen. You can’t trade a player back once they’ve been selected for at least a year I believe.
What carp said makes no sense on its face. If Blackwell was submitted to the league, he’s on Seattle.

Seen some conflicting reports on this, but it is a reason to wonder as well.

In addition to my previously stated confusion as to why they’d want Blaxkwell back instead of like a 3rd/4th round pick or someone else SEA selected.

As well as @Ola’s befuddlement as to why SEA would be so interested in Hajek.

I dont think anyone faults him that he’s fed up, we don’t want him because he has a serious injury, that Buffalo won’t reveal just how bad, and likely needs surgery to keep him out most of next season.
