I really dont think the Rangers are trading their number 2 center for a 37 year old defenseman..

I think we're starting to go off the deep end with "grit, physical play, veteran presence etc"

No he isn't.

He's not Norris level anymore, but he's still good.

Disagree. He was an average middle pair defenseman this past season, and on a steep decline. He looked pretty bad in the couple Flames games I watched; not just bad for his usage, but bad.

And his metrics have taken a nosedive.

Idk about that, Strome outproduces him substantially and is 2 years younger. Buchnevich has FAR more value than Gourde though and there should be a big add if they were trading Gourde for Buch, let alone us adding Strome lmao

Did you watch Gourde in the playoffs? He was noticeable on every shift. Just because Strome had more points does not mean he is a better overall player.

Then why didn't Calgary trade him if he was still that good (for his age)

He's old and has 1 year left and a $6.5 mill cap hit. Most teams probably don't want to give up much for that. Rightfully so, even if he's still good. You're not getting a long term player so no matter how good he is now you dont' want to pay a bunch for him.

Any deal the Rangers made for him I would hope be an expendable draft pick or prospect or part of a bigger package

I'm more so worried about us overpaying SEA and getting f***ed just because Drury wants a vet LHD. If we do something stupid and move big assets for Gio and call it an off-season I'm gonna be very disappointed

See here's the thing, we really have no need for a D like Giordano. Sure he's a vet but a vet that hasn't won anything AND we have Lindgren-Miller deadlocked for our top 2 LHD. Gio doesn't make any sense at the moment tbh

Except that he is better than both of them.

And just to clarify; if it isn't Strome going the other way (or Buch, I guess), then sure, I don't mind it. Giving up Strome for Giordano would get a huge F in my book.

Giordano would be a great player for this team. Short term investment. He's a leader that the room may really need with the amount of kids around.

Fills a massive hole on the left side, even if it is for a year or two. Lets Miller settle in to a role on the team since he was thrust into being a penalty killer in year 1.

Unless the cost is something stupid, it looks like a good deal for us.

I do remember Edge talking about Detroit trying to get the #2 pick, but maybe the Rangers just went around Yzerman and snagged that pick themselves. I'm sure Drury loves Beniers. Would you be willing to part ways with Buch and #15 if it meant taking Giordano for a year and the #2 pick? We'd be filling a long term need at center by taking Beniers.

There's also still the possibility that they just end up taking Blackwell and Carp wants clicks.

Remember Buchnevich for Horvat?

Remember when Kovalchuk was a done deal?

Carp didn't report Buch for Horvat. Our attention-whore bloggers did.

And BTW, if this isn't proof positive that we have the absolute worst beat and bloggers in the NHL. The New York Rangers, the most valuable franchise in the NHL; America's Team; a team in f***ing New York City...We seriously can't do better than these apathetic media members and these lying bloggers?
