Tell me why?

I don't always agree with your opinion on players, but I respect it.

What am I missing about a soon to be 38 year old defender on the 18th hole of his career?

Look at his stats.

53.2% defensive zone starts and pretty much even in corsi (which means he was a net positive player)
He was playing on a team that couldn't score and had a bad year and yet was a net positive
He's a proven leader

Snag him for a season and if he plays well, give him another 1 year deal.

Is Strome enough for Giordano at 50% retained? Seattle hasnt taken many pure centers. Id add a 2022 2nd or a few of this years mid-round picks to get it done

that would be a really rough trade. he’s 37 with a year left on his deal. surely strome has more value than that

Giordano is cooked. Involving Strome in order to keep Blackwell and acquire him, would be terrible.

Maybe just a counter-rumor to Ottawa being so aloof.
Giordano is not cooked by any means. I’ll withhold comment until I see a complete deal but he is a player I had targeted for this summer. Played very well last year.

Then why didn't Calgary trade him if he was still that good (for his age)

See here's the thing, we really have no need for a D like Giordano. Sure he's a vet but a vet that hasn't won anything AND we have Lindgren-Miller deadlocked for our top 2 LHD. Gio doesn't make any sense at the moment tbh

Eh, I think it does make sense if the price is right. It'd be a one year deal for a vet to stabalize that left side and provide someone experienced for whatever rookie RD makes the team but gives the Rangers flexibility to shelter Miller more if he needs it or depth to move Gio up the lineup in case of injuries, etc.

You dont' want to give up any real notable assets since he is a 38 year old UFA after this season but he'd be a solid stop gap for a year if the price was like a 3rd-4th round pick or a B prospect.

Strome has a year left on his deal as well.

If they both went at the trade deadline, I don't think the value would be different. IF anything, Geo would probably return more.
