I'm looking forward to the sheer devastation some Sabres fans are going to go through on Friday with the crackhead expectations some of them have.

They'll get a good young roster player, they'll get a high end prospect, they'll get their 1st round pick...

I don't think they get a whole lot more beyond that. Maybe a conditional pick based on how many games Eichel plays next year because I'm still pretty f***ing positive that the neck gets operated on after he is traded, which means that who ever gets him is not going to see him for most, if not all of 2021-22.

Panarin - Strome - Goodrow
Laffy - Zibanejad - Kakko
Kreider - Chytil - Kravtsov

Goodrow is here to protect Panarin. Excited to see what the kids do this year! I think we are going to have a tonne of 50+ point players next year.

Powerplay:
Laffy
Panarin-Zibanejad-Kakko
Fox

Let's go GG.

There is a difference between "the playoffs are our goal, let's try, we should be damned close" and "if we don't make the playoffs then we are going to trade everyone and rebuild again/trade all our assets for win-nows." I am hoping (would bet) Dolan is way close to the former than the latter.

Right, I believe Dolan saw them get pummeled against some teams where they had no push back and was upset by how far away they were.

Panarin was probably angry too about the Wilson thing, so they go and get Goodrow to play with him.

The trade all the assets for win now thing will happen, probably start this summer by moving out at least some youth and picks for someone more win now, and then if they are in playoff position continue at the trade deadline.

That will either eventually lead to them actually winning now or them retooling for several years, and eventually needing to rebuild again. That rebuild too will be less than 100% complete before win now comes into play, and the cycle starts again.

The only two teams that could do this and walk away clean are the Rangers and Kings, and since the Kings aren't really all the way in, the only team that could do it is us, which means we don't have to. It'll be young NHLer, top prospect, 1st.

There are more than just those 2.

Minnesota could do it, Anaheim could do it, Columbus could do it (their rumored offered package basically IS this), Montreal could do it, Chicago could do it, Vegas, if they clear MAF or Lehner, could do it. Hell if Colorado wants to get silly, THEY could do it.

The reason you hear guys like Makar and Tkachuk talking about taking less than 8 years is they see where the cap will eventually start moving. And once it moves, it will move fast. Paying back the owners is depressing the cap $3-4 MM a year right now. Once the debt is paid off and the new TV money is completely cooked in, the cap will quickly go up quite a bit. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Fox, Kakko and others follow the same route.

One things the owners and GMs already know is what the cap might look like in 5 years.

That's why it's probably smart to get Fox locked down now even if it's at $9m a season.

If we’re the only option, I’d be very content to sit back and let his NMC kick in and let him have his surgery and recover and re-evaluate in a year. No rush from the Rangers, Buffalo is the one who needs to trade him before he dictates his future and is trying to get out of this injury mess. Let them figure their shit out instead of dumping it on us.

We know nyr made an eichel offer last summer, and i keep hearing it was "substantial," but does anyone actually know what we offered? not random guesses, but has any insider actually acknowledged what the offer was?

At this point I wouldnt be shocked to see something like chytil jones hajek 21 1st and protected 22 1st based on number of games played this year. this is obviously contingent on a backup deal with strome being moved out.

I'd give him a big raise if I can lock him down long term.
if you hand out big second contracts to the three big boys when they come off their elcs than you're quickly going to run into a problem where we cant supplement them properly until the cap starts going up again and by that point you've pissed away half the window of time that we have this new core here. nyr has basically always done bridge deals with players going well back to the sather days. there is no reason to believe they wont keep doing that. in fact who are the significant players that nyr DIDNT bridge in the last two decades?

jujhar khaira was left exposed for expansion, he is definitely a guy I would love to see this team try to work a deal with seattle to flip to us.

11 goals behind Buch. I’ll take my chances and keep the budget ready for the rebuild rather than this keep the vets take

With basically no PP time.

I'm as disappointed as the next guy that Kakko didn't explode for 50 points like so many people were saying he would as a rookie and sophomore, but he went from 0.35 points per game WITH power play opportunities as a rookie (2 goals, 11 assists on the power play), to 0.35 points per game basically WITHOUT power play opportunities as a sophomore (2 goals, 1 assist on the power play) (his PP time was essentially cut in half, and almost all came in PP clean up time, which getting 20 seconds at the end of a PP isn't really a fair chance to establish the zone, cycle and score).

Give him a prominent power play role and you'll see that 0.35 ppg this year creep up way closer to 0.5 ppg organically. He'll eventually glide into being a 50 point player even if he's a massive disappointment from what we thought we were getting.

And I still think he'll eventually break out, which means, pencil in 70 or so plus Selke defense, if not better.

Nope.

All I remember is that the package was supposedly "Something that made the Sabres think... but they weren't prepared to trade him at the time." Paraphrasing here, but It was either Freidman or Dreger who said this.

It didn't involve the 1OA. Almost certainly involved their 2nd 1st round pick last year.

Still think that if Eichel ends up here, Chytil and Nils are involved along with their 2021 1st. Maybe they throw in part of their return from Strome and Buch (who would both have to go) in there as well.
