I’m hearing that last week Sather sent Ortmeyer and Glass in a black van to grab Brooks, stick a sackcloth over his head, and bring him in for the briefing that will serve as the foundation of his columns over the next month.

Than why is his 5v5 production almost identical to Strome's despite being used in a less offense first role and playing with far less talent? When you have Panarin on the wing, a defensively responsible center who can put up 55+ points is actually probably a pretty good way to win. That's why he led Montreal forwards in ice time in the playoffs, to the SCF, despite not being a major offensive producer. He has enough offensive ability, IMO, to match Strome's production playing with Panarin.

He had 47 points last year, which was second on his team. We were close to having 6 players hit 47 points. Panarin had 63 assists (MTL's top scorer had 61 total points). Strome had 40 EV points. Danault had 43 EV points. He gets no PP time and still produces the same/better than Strome at EV despite playing with worse linemates on a lower scoring team.
Strome isn’t great either. But ultimately to me this team is trying to get ready to be one built for the playoffs, putting a guy who led his team in toi while tying for last in points in an integral part in the lineup isn’t going to help

Rangers are going to take as many shots at the playoffs/cup for as long as they have Panarin.

BTW you guys should check out twitter.. Buffalo fans are talking about how "Kakko and Kravtsov are "throw ins" and they wont make any deal without the 23 yr old norris winning defenseman

WE know.

It's part of why their meltdown is going to be enjoyable AF when he does move and returns 10% of what a good chunk of their fanbase thinks they're getting.

I get where you’re coming from and have ample respect for all your posts and opinions on here. I just think that role and quality of linemates is being overlooked a bit. Strome looked like a 65 point player next to Panarin. In reality over the last two seasons Strome has put up 69 points at even strength and Danault has put up 66. The remaining difference is PP points, but Danault was only given 19 seconds per game while Strome got 3+. Danault still put up 53 and 47 points the previous two seasons, again with limited PP time and vastly inferior offensive talent to play with.

This leads me to believe that if he was given Strome’s usage he could very realistically out produce him. I don’t think that’s a stretch. Based on all the underlying numbers, I think an extra 3 minutes on the PP per game with guys like Panarin, Fox, Zib and Kreider obviously gives just about anyone competent an extra 10-20 points and I think that lining up next to Panarin in an offensive role would obviously boost even strength numbers that are already nearly identical to Strome’s.

If Strome had his production and was a “complete” player we’d be saying he was a perfect 2C. The problem is that he produces like a 2C but isn’t good defensively or on draws, doesn’t bring any physicality and isn’t tough to play against. Danault is all of those things, and I’m fairly certain he can at least match Strome’s production if given the same role. That would then make him an ideal 2C, and his ask is 5.5M which is significantly cheaper than a Strome extension would be, a Larkin would be, an Eichel would be, etc. It gives us way more flexibility with getting Zib re-signed or going after one of those more pricey centers to replace him, and while Chytil will be cheap for at least 2-3 more years, if Chytil eventually is able to run with the 2C spot, he wouldn’t be up to get paid like one until Danault was going into year 3-4 of his contract, at which point he’d be a great 3C or could be flipped, especially if he produced next to Panarin.

Just my (pretty strong lol) opinion on the matter. Always a fan of your posts. I just think when you look at 5v5 numbers, quality of lineups, usage and role, PP time, etc. it’s reasonable to conclude that Danault could replace Strome’s production while providing elite defensive play, make us tougher to play against, and be cheaper than most top six center options out there.

Yep, I feel bad for the way the Pegulas have run that team and what their fans have had to go through, but at this point with their delusional insisting that a Laf, Kakko, Miller, 1st type of package is what they’ll get, I can’t wait for the tears when he finally gets moved for so, so much less.

At the absolute most I can see the Rangers offering would be Chytil (young center and Eichel replaces him), Nils or Schneider, 15 and Georgiev or something, but who knows. It really all depends on Zibanejad and what they are gonna offer him for a LTD if they offer one at all.

I will get a laugh when Buffalo doesn’t trade Eichel before the draft and decide to hang onto him

And then try to move him next summer when healthy (maybe) but has a NMC and is going to say I only want to go to the Rangers or Boston lol

If they hold him til next Summer they are going to likely get less (unless he plays fully healthy) because yup that NMC is gonna kick in and then he determines where he goes

Eichel isn't the guy. We are too early in the process, he isn't the kind of hard nosed leader we are looking for, injuries nonwithstanding.

1-2 years from now we should be talking about making a move for the final piece. There will be other disgruntled star centers.

I would simultaneously loathe this trade and laugh at the meltdown.

Agree about too early in the process.

Unfortunately, were about to give a sandpaper player a 6 year deal..... So getting Eichel would have to take the Silver in GM stupidity.
