He then speculated that the Rangers could solve their Tom Wilson problem by acquiring Deslauriers. I think people then just put 2 and 2 together.

i don’t think it’s the “value” tho. I just don’t know what contending team can spare a center for a winger and I’m not sure a team not contending or at least trying to would want a pending UFA but who knows

True, though there are teams contending, and others rebuilding or retooling. Edm is an example of a potential match. That first plus prospect could interest Det.

Gauthier? Tom Wilson is a top 5-10 fighter in the World. Gauthier has fought two times since 2014 and the last time, three years ago, he got beaten up by a Swede in the AHL. Tom Wilson will hurt anyone fighting him who doesn’t know what they are doing. Guys that knows what they are doing but aren’t top fighters can tie Wilson up and get by without getting hurt. But if you take objection against a player, what kind of message does it send if you have one guy skating up to him and then hangs on for dear life?

Goodrow isn’t on par with Wilson. Goodrow can fight, but he isn’t a vicious fighter. He will stand up for teammates and do OK against many, but not the better fighters.

Most “fighters” in the NHL are no biggie for Wilson. Guys like Deslauries, he might push Wilson a little in a fight but he won’t hurt Wilson as a norm. Deslauries isn’t really a punishing fighter. But someone who isn’t a fighter will be destroyed by him. But he isn’t like Reeves who it’s dangerous to fight even if you know what you are doing.

Why do we need someone that can fight Wilson? It’s not just Wilson. I think we have lost perspective here a bit. You cannot deter someone like Wilson. FROM TAKING RUNS. But our problem isn’t that people are hitting our guys hard. It’s waaaay beyond that. If someone like Lindgren makes a hit 3-4 guys on the other team can chase him around the ice and they know that we have nobody that even remotely can make that come at any kind of price. Can we deter that? Oh definitely. If Noah Dobson lands a solid hit that there is nothing wrong with, could 3-4 guys chase him around all night making him look like a coward while paying no price for it? Nah, they would have to fight Johnston, Lee and Martin if they tried. That comes at a cost, the outcome isn’t given and so forth.

Do we have a Wilson problem? We absolutely have a NYI, Washington and Boston problem. These are tough teams. We play them so much. They are really taking advantage of us. Look at Fredrick chaneigans against us. Comes at zero cost. He would never pull that crap against NYI or Washington.

To get guys like Chytil, Lafreniere, Miller and co to play as tough as they can — they cannot completely be hung out to dry. They should get to experience the opposite next season, ie that they have the backing to take some liberties. Play a little reckless without fearing being forced to act like a coward running to the bench after every whistle.
