heres the problem with eichel, if surgery is ultimately required, assuming rest does not relieve the symptoms then there are 2 options . 1- traditional laminectomy bone grafting into the space and spinal fusion . no professional athlete who has undergone that proceedure and been able to continue playing for more than 3’years because the fusion puts more pressure on the sorrounding discs causing them to weaken . in addition the recovery time would be a year so if he has the surgery now he would miss the entire 2021-22 season . 2 - expermental surgery jnseeting an artificial disc with hinge attachments . this has never been tried with a professional athlete, so its highly uncertain although thevrecovery time is 6 months either way if surgery is needed javk eichel at best will have a very small career window and is not worth the risk . it remains to be seen how much he has improved by rest and physical therapy but if hevremains symptomatic i wouldnt touch him with a 2o foot pole. and realize this , nevk movement is critical for a hockey player to follow the play as the puck is moving back and forth at a very high rate of speed , probably this ability for a hockey player to keep his head on a swivel is more critical than in any of the other major sports. so imo i would be completely out on jack eichel
