If the Rangers didn't have basically 3 centers in the entire organization besides rooney, you'd be correct. But they don't, and the Rangers are stacked with wingers even after a buch trade and losing 1 of gauthier/blackwood.

It's not scary because the Rangers have something ironed out most likely which will be announced post expansion draft. Francis isn't blowing a pick on a guy who they aren't going to be able to keep.

If they were worried about it, they would have used a slot on him.

Yeah and I guess absolute worst case scenario, if we did lose him...we basically just paid a 7th round pick to keep Blackwell & Gauts. That's a good deal too.

I wanted to keep the younger players too but Drury wants guys in certain roles

In the end, I’m guessing they just feel Gauthier isn’t going to get the minutes here to progress so why bother a chance at losing Rooney. It answers my question about who the 4th line C will be now to start next season. The rangers are still 1-2 trades from a finished roster product. But so far I see this

I think we are losing one of chytil/Kravstov + 15 OA, and Probably Jones to upgrade 2 C and shift strome to Panarins RW
Is it the best move? Prob not. But realistically, it’s what I see happening. If the Larkin / Eichel talks Die, I’d circle back for Dvorak/Crouse or perhaps Lindholm if the flames open for business. The package above is the minimum required to bring a high end center back. I go with Dvorak. He’s still has untapped offensive potential, signed to a solid deal and wouldn’t cost as much as the other 3. If we can get him out of that tire fire in ARI, I bet we’re looking at a solid 2-way 70pt center with Panarin on his left. They are dumping their heart and soul Garland, so I refuse to believe Dvorak is untouchable/ unavailable

He was effective but he played pretty bad as the season went on. And he hasn't been that good during his NHL career.

Classic. You'd take the $10M oft injured player that fits the mold of 90 % of our top 9 but scoff at fixing the actual weakness of this team.

If you still haven't figured it out, you need guys to win in the trenches to let the Panarin, Ziba, Laf's of the team to use their skill.

I have to agree. I like Rooney, and he was solid for us, but he had a career year because Quinn over used him. I would have kept Gauthier based off boom/bust talent. It’s a coin flip whether they picked Blackwell or Rooney IMO.
It’s not a huge loss, but personally I would have went the other way and protected Gauthier

How did he overuse him? He was the 4C and a PKer all year. The same as any other team would use him. That’s his role and he’s good at it.
