It's going to be hard for us to hang on to Kreider. To stay he's going to have to be on board as far as not maxing out his next contract and we're going to have to move Buchnevich instead. IMO it's going to be one or the other and Buchnevich is still kind of controlled and the younger player. Kreider's speed does force defenses back. His size and strength accentuate that. He is a difficult player for a defense to handle. He is important as the guy who fronts the goalie on our power play. I'm not sure Lemieux will be nearly as good a replacement there. As for Buch he made strides in the second half of last year--the question is can he repeat and can he hang on to the plum 1st line assignment with Zibanejad and Panarin. So far he's been alright but I think he needs to be a little more involved. 2 games and 0 shots on goal. Buch is best when he's shooting the puck.

Just curious, how is John Gilmour doing in Buffalo?

Oh wait, he didn’t make it....

But I was told he just needs a chance. He is soo good.

He stinks.

Boy am I glad the pre-pre-allstar break is over. Can we play 2-3 times a week for like a month now please? JFC is that asking too much?

Good find. Looking at this data (NHL Totals by Birth State - 2017‑2018 Stats) it's interesting to see some states I wouldn't inherently think of:

Missouri at 3.3 percent
California at 4.8 percent (based on sheer size)
Connecticut at 3.3 percent
Illinois at 6.6 percent
New Jersey at 3.3 percent

Not that I didn't know those states were producing players, but some of the percentages are higher than I would've guessed.

another question is the difference between birth states and development states...quinn & jack hughes were born in florida but grew up playing hockey in canada...

how many kids born in other states then went to boarding schools in new england, minnesota, etc to play?

Do we have an FA options at 2C? Granlund? But I think he plays more wing than center. Is there any chance at Barkov if Florida still sucks in a few years? Tould be great to see Barko and Kakko on the same line

Kreider is going to command a ridiculous amount of money that will really hurt this team when some of the younger players are due for raises in the next few years. I usually try not to get ahead of myself with that whole notion but, in my opinion, we've seen enough of Kreider to know the juice isn't worth the squeeze.
Kreider is a valuable asset but if he prices himself out of that value, so be it.

How bad was Vaak's concussion? I'd take him or Studnicka. Even Frederic, to solidify our bottom6.

No, that is not happening. The cap will not allow for that. Not with Panarin and Trouba already here and Zbad looking to get paid down the line.

You sign CK for 5 years he’s what 33 when that last season starts. People here acting like he’ll be hanks age with multiple years left. Good players that can skate At an elite level continue to contribute well into their 30s.

Deal 1. Chris Kreider to Boston at the deadline for a 1st in 2020, a 2nd in 2020 and a 2nd in 2021. I don't care much about their prospects. We have depth on the farm, that depth only last like 2-3 years. Then you need to refill it. Draft picks are overvalued like crazy, but whatever. We draft well. 2nd round picks holds a lot of value. Ammo for Gorton.

Deal 2. Pavel Buchnevich to someone at the draft in a move to move up or acquire another 1st. It didn't work last draft, but OTOH Buch will get 60-70 pts in the environment he is in now. Should up his value quite much.

I think it will be almost impossible to keep Buchnevich, as soon as we gave him that deal we sealed his fate in NY. Like if he scores 60-70 pts, and the inflation in salaries we are seeing, he could easily just arbitrate himself to UFA getting 6-7m per year in arbitration. What would it take to keep him long-term, 8m per? I love the kid, but he is history.

Priority 1: Give TDA as little PP time as possible all year, and then resign him long-term next summer, we might get away with it.

Priority 2: Try to lock-up Lemieux long-term. We need his edge.

Consider 1: Trading Brady Skjei for a bigger winger. Maybe. We have had a heck of a turnover on the blueline, at the same time we must keep sending out LDs because its so extremely easy to find quality players at that position. Imagine getting a quality center comparable to the quality Mat Robertson has at LD -- in the 2nd round. You basically have to go at least top 15 to get that.

Skjei for Tuch?

Consider 2: I would consider throwing in Chytil in any move to move up at the draft. But its to early to say that it should or shouldn't be done. But depth wise it could end up making sense.

Lineup 2019/20:
Panarin-Ziba-Kravy
Lemieux-Lias-Kakko
Howden-Chytil-[Fast]
[McKegg-Boo-Vinny L]
Skjei-Trouba
Hajak-TDA
Staal-Fox

I don’t think the Rangers would balk at 4-5 years at $6m. Having said that, I have a hard time seeing Kreider going for either that term or that money. And when you start getting to 7x7, I suspect the Rangers comfort level decreases considerably.

Why is he taking 5 years instead of 7? His new deal will take him to age 36

You mean like Brian Leetch being the crown jewel of the illustrious Texas hockey factory?

I think he clocks in at $6M x 6 from most teams. If there is a bidding war, then the upfront pay and bonus structure goes up.

It all depends on how many teams with cap space are interested in him.
