I can see the Rangers resigning Kreider and then shipping him for a young player als Brassard for Mika type of trade. Futures for Kreider isn't needed. Another young NHL player can be more useful at this time in my opinion. Like a Dvorak from Arizona or Kempe from Kings or Virtanen from Canucks for example

Interesting. I had Cirreli as a dark horse acquisition the other day.

The other guy I have in mind is Adrian Kempe.

Although, I would expect a defenseman going LA's way for Kempe.

I don’t think we disagree on Buch the player, but I think he is a must trade, and not later than at the draft. He will be 26 when his next contract is up. After playing 2 years with Ziba and Panarin he will have strong stats.

Building a team in this league is about assembling the best possible roster under the cap. How good a player is, is only one part of the equation. It’s just as essential how much you pay for that player.

I can’t see how we ever could end up signing Buch to a reasonable contract after this one. It will cover his age of 27-33. Look at the Skinner contract. And if we wait until the later part of this contract, his value will crash like JT Miller’s value did.

So while I love Buch, I can’t see how we ever could keep him.
How could you possibly make this judgement before you see what happens the next two years?

I think he clocks in at $6M x 6 from most teams. If there is a bidding war, then the upfront pay and bonus structure goes up.

It all depends on how many teams with cap space are interested in him.
Take a look around at top end teams
cap situations for next year and even at $84 MM, a lot of teams are already jammed. Lots of big future contracts already signed.

As you know, I LOVED Beecher. That said, if Boston wanted him, why would they simply not trade for Kreider at the deadline?

Kreider is a legit top line wing. And that is what the return for him would be like. Or should be like. Somewhat better than Hayes. Not a lot but a bit.

I also think that people tend to forger that unlike other players, he actually does have a history of coming up big in the playoffs. Just look at his playoff stats vs. Nash.

There is a way to keep him, but it involves trading Buch. Which is not something I am opposed to doing. I think that his value to the franchise may be greater than his value in a trade.

Actually I didn't know that. But...Beecher will be either a second or third guy I think when all is said and done but he'll also be a physical and mean player. Great size and an excellent skater.

I'm getting a little bit pissed at Quinn and his usage of Lias. How do you not at least TRY him at 2C? Move Strome to the 3rd line W and at least TRY Lias at 2C. 7 minutes of ice-time in a game where nothing was clicking offensively is unacceptable.

I totally agree with you. Quinn’s lack of love for lias is starting to become concerning. He’s been the most consistent out of our kids since camp. He really deserves a look at 2c.

There’s another factor to Lias’s usage folks aren’t recognizing, which is that Quinn also has to give Howden and Strome fair opportunities, before demoting them. I mean, how often has this board complained that X “didn’t receive a fair chance”?

That said, we’re getting to the point where it’s becoming obvious he needs to make a change. Hopefully, the shuffling in the second half of the 3rd period marks a shift in thinking.

I think the point is howden and strome had their fair chances. Lias hasent.

How did Howden earn his "fair chance"? Because he certainly didn't earn it in pre-season, and based on reputation he shouldn't be on the 3rd line either. He seems to be rewarded for his performance in November 2018, which is ridiculous

Whatever his reasons (play in practice maybe?), I agree that the inflection point is coming/here.

But once that’s how Quinn started the season, there’s a valid, IMO, argument that the players deserved a chance to show they could produce.

yea but moving strome to rw would give all 3 more ice time to do there thing.. strome is a better winger.. fast is the killer here, because he's always been well liked by all the coaches we have had.. hes the one way over used

Kreider-Anderson-KK
Lem-Howden-Strome
Smith/Keg-Haley-Fast

good balance

Chris-Mika-Pavel
Artemi-Ryan-Kaapo
Brendan L-Lias-Jesper
Greg-Brett-Brendan S

Separate the 2 horses up front, try and get Chris going who was great with Mika last year. And hope Artemi can make that 2nd line more effective. time to give Andersson more of a chance with some better wingers too.

Yeah I know. This isn't 2016 where there were bidding wars for Ladd, Okposo, Lucic, and Ericsson.

Don’t think either of those teams will be motivated to move either of those players.

Let's be honest here.
With the team as currently constructed and with the work that LA has put in, I'd at least try him in the #2C slot.
But in reality, is a legit #2C?
I see him as a #3C all day long..

I’m pretty squarely a “Lias skeptic” but he deserves a shot at 2C. Stroke and Howden feel like they have gotten looks by default.
Agreed but even if Quinn doesn't wanna give him 2C outright, he NEEDS to find the kid more time. 5 minutes of 5V5 time isn't right. It's not fair to Lias, it's not good for his development and with how others have been playing it isn't right from a trying to win standpoint either. So you wanna keep the lines how they are? How about moving Lias up to take post PP shifts? How about sliding him up to take occasional shifts with CK and KK or swap with Howden here and there? Quinn has shown no problem moving players around over the course of the game, why not do it with Lias? It all just makes no sense because Lias looks a lot better than last year, he's taken the next step but it's like Quinn is blocking the staircase or something. You can't play him 5 5v5 minutes a night for a month then get up there and be like "well Lias has to earn his minutes" and wonder why he's not producing.

As a rebuilding team, we should be exploring everything and anything. Hell, we’re using Smith as a ****ing forward. No reason why Lias hasn’t been given a look.

We’re only 3 games in. Quinn might have that in his mind. Maybe we should be a bit more patient. But, at the same time there’s no excuse why Howden is getting more minutes with better linemate over Lias.

It’s definitely annoying. I like Quinn but I’m dumbfounded by some of his decisions.
