Panarin needs to be better in the playoffs for sure but there’s many more problems than him (Goodrow, Trouba deal, Speed problems, kids not growing yet, etc).
He's the most expensive problem. That usually gets addressed first

If our 11.6M guy isn't producing, we're not winning ( or we will be extremely hard pressed, it'd take a miracle run with a lot of other guys stepping up ) It doesn't that it's Panarin. If any team has that much cap tied up in one player, they are relying on them to produce.

Panarin himself, is not happy with his performance. Gotta call it what it is.

If Vesey is on it, it's a 3rd line. Which is where Wheeler should be.

Kreider - Zibanejad - Kakko
Panarin - Chytil - Lafreniere
Vesey - Trocheck - Wheeler
Goodrow - Bonino - Pitlick

Just like @LaffyTaffyNYR and I didn't even look at his lol.
Fair enough. But when Laf fails on the right the logical switch is right there. Vesey for Laf. Uh oh. 3rd line alert. Haha

Kreider-Z-Kakko
Panarin-Chytil-Vesey
Laf-Tro-Wheeler
Goodrow-Bonino-Pitlick

And I like these lines too to be honest.

The biggest problem i've had with spreading the kids out with the veterans is that Gallant and Quinn both allowed the vets to force the kids to do all the dirty work on the lines. Panarin-Strome-Kakko was *EASILY* the biggest offender on that front, but Kreider and Zib did it too. If Laviolette can put a stop to that, then we'll be in better shape

It's one of the big reasons I liked Laf-Zib-Kakko as a line, all 3 of them were pulling weight. Ideally I'd like to see the following, with the "3rd" line being used as a matchup type line.

Laf-Zib-Kakko
Panarin-Chytil-Wheeler
Kreider-Trocheck-Vesey

Can anyone tell me what it says about the Rangers draft? And Perreault?

Gabriel Perreault could become one of the home runs of the first round if his strength piece comes along. He has high, high-end talent and offensive IQ.

The Rangers’ Day 2 underwhelmed me, though. They didn’t have a second- or fourth-round pick, so their assets were limited in that regard, but I don’t see NHL upside in fifth-round Swedish defenceman Rasmus Larsson, 6-foot-7 Generals forward Dylan Roobroeck or 6-foot-5 forward Ty Henricks.

Third-rounder Drew Fortescue was an honourable mention for me. His game is unspectacular but effective. If he makes it, it’ll be as a third-pairing guy after a full four years at Boston College (where both he and Perreault are headed).

I thought about making them overtime losers here, but I think the win on Perreault could be significant.

Tbh given the Rangers didn't have a 2nd or 4th, i feel like dropping them so harshly for a bad day 2 is a bit harsh. Especially considering he also liked their 3rd rounder (so he liked the 2 highest picks)

interesting top 2 lines.

Lav should try everything in camp/pre season and see who clicks. Don’t divert to who the vets want to play with unless they are playing well. This also includes D pairs where IMO Miller/Trouba need to be split up

Why? Why can’t Trocheck slide to 3C and the responsibilities shift between Trocheck/Chytil? They got Troch on a good AAV that will look better as the cap goes up in the next 2-3 years. They will be set down the middle 1-2-3.

Because having a 3c making that much money is a waste of cap space. Its only a good AAV until Chytil wants to get paid and then it becomes an albatross, and I'm not sure it isn't already. Could we have resigned Tarasenko with that money?Absolutely. Trochek or Chytil will be leaving when Chytil needs his next contract.

I really like the Wheeler signing for us, I'm marking him down for 25 or more goals. He's gonna earn a contract here and leave.

By the time that contact is coming close to finished, thats going to be low paid for a 3c.

Chytil is signed for 4 years no need to worry about that. By the time he might need his next contract everyone will be off the books almost

I think why we didn’t have a 2nd or 4th should play into their grade for day 2.

He’s either eclipsed or paced 30+ in 6 of the last 7 seasons.

This isn’t a new revelation. His goal totals have gone up with league scoring, this is who he is.

The 52 goal season came out of nowhere and he won’t replicate that, but with health he isn’t going to come in at under 30. Even if his 5v5 ice time gets eaten into.
Absolutely. Well put.

I think it's maybe even more likely that Kreider, if fully healthy, scores 50 goals again than it is he scores 25. I think he's easily good for another 32 or so this season.

Ducks get D Zac Jones
Rangers get RW Jacob Perreault

Jones has to go through waivers and no sense to keep him as a 7th dman, he is going and needs to play. With signing Gustafson, it much ice time for Jones. He was only resigned to have extra value in a trade.

IMO Jones is not that good. You're going to have to try harder. It's not like Anaheim has a stacked NHL defense but they have 3 LD prospects I'd put ahead of Jones. Jackson Lacombe, Olen Zellweger and Pavel Mintyukov.

As far as our Perreault my guess is he's going to spend at least two years at Boston College. For one his skating could use an extra gear.

More lineup suggestions with Laf on RW. Then when he doesn't perform well, will everyone be surprised? He's a LW, it's two different positions. Drop Kreider to the 3rd line.

What I hope is that the coaches go into this camp with no "kids" and "vets". You have however many players and you line them up in the way that best offers the team the chance to win. If that means mixing up the D pairs, fine. If that means Kreider on line 3, fine. No catering to "vets" or coddling "kids", they're all adults and the current staff isn't beholden to draft positions or contracts.

The issue is Laf at LW isn’t passing Kreider or Panarin. The only real realistic way for him to get a chance is to move a winger to the opposite side. It’s reality boys.

Also the fact that the Rangers RW depth Unless Kakko takes that leap is kinda crap compared to their top 2 LWs

Hot take. Laf can pass Kreider. He just needs the ice time.

I’ve heard quite a bit from the pro-Panarin side that a big reason for his regression was a lack of fire being lit under him.

If we want to roll with that mind set, he, not Kreider or Laf, should be slotted down in the line up.

Panarin to line 4 and off both PP units until he “earns it.” Want to set the tone in camp? This is how’s it’s done.
