It isn’t the first, second or third line.

It’s the Zibanejad line, the Chytil line or the Trocheck line. Each line’s quality of play will determine TOI.
True, but we know that the Z line will almost my default have more TOI because he’s in a league well above the other two. Not quite a Brassard Stepan Richards situation.

Depends on the wingers, and, if Lavs is any good, how the line is doing.

PTO Phil Kessel
I don’t see the fit. He doesn’t make sense on the 4th line. So why not just open the season with about $1.5 in cap space, sign Kane and then LTIR, ride with Vesey/Goodrow on the 3rd line in the interim. Kane turns 35 in November, sign him to a 35+ contract like Wheeler.

PTOs make sense because technically there is still a top 9 wing spot open if someone outplays Vesey/Goodrow for the role in camp.

Vesey-Bonino-Goodrow is much better than Vesey/Goodrow-Bonino-Pitlick and so if you can find a right winger and give them a trial it’s a low risk medium reward scenario.

Either one works tbh. However Rangers are unlikely to take that risk already knowing what Kreider has done since signing extension
My point. kreider dropping down to 25 goals loses us 11 goals from last season, but also is still a respectable middle 6 player.
Laf scoring 35 would show he can actually be a top line player and that his development is still continuing.

Laf scoring 25 would be an improvement but not to the degree anyone is looking for at this point.

Move Goodrow for nothing and give Tara his money on a one-year.

Laf/Zib/Whe
Pan/Chy/Tar
Kre/Tro/Kak
Ves/Bon/Pit

it would be a shrewd move.

No one is taking Goodrow at this point. Drury is stuck with his terrible contract. The hope is Goodrow is much, MUCH better under Lavi than he was with Gallant. His point production has been a miracle for how he's looked over the past 2 years.

He's here to defend and play in key moments late game. I've seen nothing from him in that regard. Maybe our system was that bad. He was a great defender and a key player in Tampa. Haven't seen that here yet

Tank could theoretically take a 1 year $1-2M deal if he really wants to stay here and keep Goodrow. We'd have 1.3M to in cap space with Pitlick on the 23 man roster or 2.1M to sign Tank if we only run 12 forwards. Highly doubt we go in with 12 forwards.

Laffy Zibs Wheeler
Panarin Chytil Tank
Kreider Trocheck Kakko
Goodrow Bonino Vesey
Pitlick/Brodz

Lindgren Fox
KAM Trouba
Gustafson Schneider
Jones

p.s. I want absolutely nothing to do with Kane.

I’ve heard quite a bit from the pro-Panarin side that a big reason for his regression was a lack of fire being lit under him.

If we want to roll with that mind set, he, not Kreider or Laf, should be slotted down in the line up.

Panarin to line 4 and off both PP units until he “earns it.” Want to set the tone in camp? This is how’s it’s done.
Apparently I was generous in insisting he go to line 3
kid line = 1
Kreider + = 2
Cuyle - Tro - bread = 3

hell if laf even manages to score 20 goals at least 95% of this board would leave a huge orgasmic stain in their drawers. 25-35? c'mon knock it off.

Honestly, Id be ok with Laf getting a chance in front of Panarin and/or Kreider at this point.

More like BAD take. Typically you play well then get ice time. That’s how Panarin and Kreider did it.
And if you play like panarin? Aka shit

I’m still stunned Senko is out there if he really had 5.5-6M multiple year offers. Does he really think he’s worth more than that today? Does he really just want to play in specific places? it’s almost August…

Not sure what he is waiting for.

The one link posted earlier in the thread said Florida would be interested if they could get him around $4 million for on year. No income tax there.

They must have LTIR candidates but what about when they are healthy? They have -1M cap space

They apparently like what Goodrow brings I guess. This year was a perfect opportunity to buy him out with 2 years of cap credit and only year they feel a 3.6 mil pinch is 25-26 but cap will be significantly hire by then and following years are only about 1 mil against the cap. It was a team friendly structure and I don't know why they didn't use it.

I like the idea of using Trocheck on the 3rd line in a match up role. Since he mostly played with Panarin last season he winded up having the 2nd most 5v5 time behind Artemi. Zibanejad had less 5v5 time than him. Trocheck was fine last season but that duo of him and AP wasn't inspiring. Maybe find a way to get Chytil some more 5v5 time and start using Trocheck in a more defensive role, more PK minutes. One of the best face-off guys in the league. Gallant underutilized him in that aspect. He played more than double the PK minutes in Carolina the season prior.

Fumbling with a bunch of different combinations that could make sense..

Panarin Zibanejad Wheeler
Laf Chytil Kakko
Kreider Trocheck Goodrow/Vesey

Stack the top line. Zibanejad's most productive line this past season was him, Panarin and Tarasenko, despite being his 3rd most played line combination. Him, Kreider and Vesey was his 2nd most played line combo. Put some talent with the guy, it'd be nice to have someone else that can create on his line. Keep the kids together. That line has had glimpses where they're the most dominant line of either team throughout a game. Next you have that veteran match-up line. After that top line you run the hot combo. If the kids are buzzing play them more. If the vets are buzzing you play them. You need to protect a lead you play them.

Wouldn't mind swapping Laf and Panarin there either.

Kreider Zibanejad Wheeler
Panarin Chytil Kakko
Laf Trocheck Goodrow/Vesey

Keep the CK/Zib duo. After Buch got traded that RW spot next to them has been a revolving door of young players, role players and deadline acquisitions. Wheeler is still a good player that should be able to compliment that duo. I like that next line. I dont mind flipping Kakko with Wheeler but Chytil & Kakko have shown good chemistry. They can create space and draw in defenders circling the zone. The idea that Panarin is on the receiving end of their ability to work the zone is sweet. Laf saw some time with Panarin and Trocheck this year, Kakko got some the year prior. Aside from Strome, Trocheck, etc.. we've also seen a decent chunk of time go to Hunt, Goodrow and Vesey with AP under Gallant. Quite frankly, we have very little idea of how the young players might gel with Panarin. Chytil has hardly ever got the chance. Kakko and Laf have gotten limited opportunity. The biggest thing for the young players is not to defer. Times where they've gotten split up and put with the vets they stop playing their game and unload everything to the older players. If they're not playing together this year they need to stick to their game. That 3rd line above is the same idea as the other one. All 3 of those guys are physical, it should be a hard line to play against.
I had mentioned back in the playoffs they should have had Kreider checking Hughes . It makes so much sense and he does most of his scoring on the PP anyways.....so would not lose out much 5 on 5 scoring from him . I like the idea of a 3rd line checking unit as you mentioned . I DON'T like giving guys like Hughes and such free space . A guy like Kreider can skate with and bump him and just make life miserable all around for him and maybe draw a couple of PP's in doing so for the team......we have to change how we play with our current roster and some guys will need to change if they want to remain here . If we continue to do the same things nothing will improve ....we'll have decent regular seasons and rotten playoffs . It's pretty simple .
