Why does Lafrenière deserve more than Kakko again?
Well, he scored 39 points n 81 games. In his contract season Kakko scored 18 points in 43 games. So yeah it’s not out of line to think Laf might get a bit more.

Again not seeing a huge difference here. You double the games its similar points and again Kakko is superior all around

Again, the points are SIMILAR with Laf being a bit higher, and the pay will be similar with Laf being a bit higher. IMO in his contract season, Kakko was not superior all around to Laf in his. But it’s a subjective call so you are free to think so. Regardless, it’s really pretty easy to see why Laf would get a bit more. I find it completely un confusing. hahaha. Laf scored about 11.5 percent more ppg than Kakko in their contract years, was more physical, and stayed healthy. I don’t expect him to get a LOT more than Kakko, but yeah, a bit.

This fanbase and their stupid fascination with Tarasenko and Kane.

I read this today

Tararsenko regression. He can still finish but the rest of his game is declining.

Kane wasn’t much better.

There is one puck. There are so many shifts per game. There are so many opportunities per game. The forwards need to be slotted better. The Rangers young guys need to get more opportunities.

Kane and Vesey could make the same $800,000 but their roles are different.

This topic is annoying.
There are plenty of “stupid fascinations” by this fan base. Preferring Patrick Kane over Jimmy Vesey in the Top 9 is not one of them. It just isn’t. Thanks for bringing up Tarasenko’s “regression”, he is still 10x better than Vesey. Love the spin job you are doing sharing that article to bring Tarasenko down. Certainly there is one puck but when you have more talent on the ice you have a better chance of possessing that puck and keeping it.

We need to not bring Kane back to see what the kids are capable of. As long as a guy like Kane is here, whether he deserves it or not he'll be forced into a top 6, 1st pp role. His name carries too much weight. If it wasn't obvious last year it should have been...he was not good and they still forced it. Around the time of the trade Tarasenko had just started clicking on pp1 and as soon as Kane landed he was off pp1

Lafreniere was a first overall pick. That makes a difference like it or not.

Why can't there be another option aside from Vesey, Kane or Tarasenko?

Players who will be available during the season into the deadline?

I know Kane fits the bill as one of those guys but I don't think hes a good fit for the roster before we even get back to the procedure he had and the lack of success pro athletes have had returning to perform at a high level from it (across all sports, its pretty much zero.)

We may even be able to take care of this stuff in house. Probably wise to see if that can be done before spending money on a player who either doesn't fit, isn't able to perform or throwing Vesey into a role that he isn't really equipped to handle.

People fall in love with names. Truth is neither guy really fit in well with our roster. Tarasenko needs other players to do 90% of the work for him (he can finish) and I'm not sure we're really optimal for him in that regard.

Kane is a risk on multiple levels and hes better suited going somewhere else where he can just catalyze while having a ton of support around him. Dallas would be a great fit for him.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cuylle or Othmann were in the opening lineup higher than the 3rd line.
Cuylle style profile/Draft profile was Tom Wilson, and Wilson had some solid years under laviolette.
Othmann I'd like to get some seasoning in the AHL, but I wouldn't be surprised if he had a great camp and earned a top 6 spot as Laviolette breaks up some familiar lines.

Laf-Mika-Kakko
Panarin - Chytil - Othmann/Cuylle
Kreider - Trocheck - Wheeler
Vesey- Goodrow - Bonino

Sometimes guys really find their games on the PK. I think it helped Kreider and JT. Even though down a man it feels like there is more open ice. Usually you only have to beat 1-2 dman since fowards are not concentrating on defense during that 2 minutes.
i never thought about that, but there's probably something to it. if nothing else it's some extra ice time and a confidence boost for the staff to give that responsibility. oddly enough, and i'm sure many might disagree, but i really don't like kreider on the pk. i know he's had most of our shg's and is a threat in that way, but defensively i feel like he's not very good. he isn't very good with his stick either knocking pucks loose or getting it in lanes to deflect/intercept/prevent passes. he's often running around because he doesn't read the play all that well and doesn't keep body control which leaves him flat footed and unable to get to loose pucks or close on guys quickly. he does have his good qualities like being able to skate pucks free, waste some time, and obviously with his speed when he gets up to it, he does present a threat going the other way. i would just prefer someone like kakko getting his regular mins there and giving him a 3rd group / replacement if a regular is in the box. i see the upgrade in hockey sense / ability to get sticks on pucks, under control play and reliability on the walls, puck control /ability to rag pucks down low for extended periods, and an upgrade in overall offensive ability though downgrade in speed / poor history in the type of chances pk's typically can generate...i just see kakko as the better option. jt on the other hand still hurts my heart...av should be charged with war crimes for his mishandling of that kid. he was so obviously one of our most talented and effective players

Kane is irrelevant until Dec at least anyway it’s already been said he won’t sign until he’s healthy lots can happen by then

And it sounds like he's looking for some term and money in this contract, we have neither. I don't think he's coming here, Dallas imo is where he's heading.

I like Kreider on the pk but i think with him on line 1 and on pp1 he needs that time to rest, same with Zib. I dont mind them on it late in a game but to be the first guys over the boards is dumb because we are wearing those two guys down during a game. Keep them fresh and throw them over the boards the first shift after the pk.

Berne I always respected your opinion, but do not agree with your proposal from Kings point of view.

Kings did not trade Byfield for PLD, they traded Vilardi instead.

LA considers Clarke to be untouchable in trades. He is the only possible 1D on the team.

Shesty is great goalie, but Kings will not trade those assets for him.

P.S. ZJ is not needed in LA.
Haha. I’m the inverse. I respect @bernmeister but not all his opinions. But that’s what makes this place fun!

Without seeing him play a lot my impression is Gustafson probably plays “ok” defense overall for a 3rd pairing when you grade it all out on average but makes some
Noticeable mistakes that gives him the “bad defensively” label
I’m gonna say he’s a rich man’s Claessen.

The more I hear about Kane's injury and everything the less I want him back under any circumstances
I feel the direct opposite. Dude is gonna feel great and be carrying a massive chip on his shoulder.

Lots of guys can have 50 points with enough ice time and other people doing the leg work. From what he was? He's washed, whether physically or mentally.
When this board last pronounced Tara as washed after his second shoulder surgery, he put up 34 goals and 82 points. We could use more ‘washed’ players like Tara.
