what differentiates a Center from a Winger?

Chytil is strong at transitiion. What other Center responsibilities is he strong at?

These days? Not much. Plenty of guys could reliably play both.

Not seeing all these details that he’s “horrible” defensively either. Gonna need some evidence for this.

Plus he’s been a chance generation machine at his current position. We’ve been over this before, you don’t do this with poor awareness. Why bother messing with it?

Kravtsov and weighing like a elementary school girl?

Tbh I’d take him 100% right now if he was LHD

Why? He was the reason we lost to Carolina one year when he played with us and the reason we beat them when he played with them. There's a reason he'll go down in history as the only guy to ever get bought out twice.

“Nyr is team 7 in like 4 or 5 years? "Pretty good" players usually don't have that level of instability.”

Jágr played on 6 teams in 6 years. He’s “pretty good”.

You weren’t “misquoted” at all, bud.
Jagr played on those 6 teams though beginning in 2011 when he was 39 years old. Completely different circumstances and a terrible example at trying to force through your point.

in this alternate universe scenario, he'd be a 3LD. if he's the reason we lose, we probably weren't winning.

It's a great example of why there shouldn't be blanket statements about a guy being on a lot of teams because he's not any good. It's not the case. Circumstances weren't part of the discussion.

We tend to lean on 'what have you done for me lately and Kadris run in Colorado is still on our minds. Kadri may be slightly more impactful but I think they are very similar. Don't get me wrong, Trocheck had a horrendous Playoffs, as did the whole team. Major, major let down from him in the Playoffs.. I think he will be much better under Lavi than Gallant though. He was lost the first 20 or so games with how dumb and unstructured our system was.

We have kids on the 3rd line. That is suppose to be the heart of the teams 'role players'. I really want Zibs to back off as a 'main matchup' guy.

It's not an unpopular opinion, I've been saying it for a while. He's poor positionally and lacks awareness on defense. He hasn't shown much growth. Maybe it gets better with some coaching? He can still carry the puck up ice as a winger. I do not get the issue. I know the org 'views' him as a Center, if Peca and crew can help him mature, that'd be nice. Teach him how to use his size and speed on the PK? No one ever though of having Kreider there.
if what have you done for me lately is the arguement than wouldnt i be leaning towards what happened last year with kadri? he is just a more impactful player throughout the game for me. I never would have given that contract but hes better than trocheck. people all year told me trocheck would be better in the playoffs and i kept tellingt hem that historically having watched him he is typically not as good in the playoffs say for the odd/random game.

the third line shouldnt be a wasteland for kids, org philosophical issue

kreider should not pk, save his minutes for better usage. chytil could pk i guess but there have always been questions about his hockey iq so it is hard to have him pk, especially when you need to put someone else out with him for faceoffs. the center position has been infuriating for the org for how long? no size, no heavy game, no hard matchups for other teams. just a very vanilla group up the middle. it sucks

you have gusto, they are the same player basically except one is a douche

He’s degraded defensively. Honestly thought he was better under Quinn. Is it Coaching? Strong possibility considering what Trocheck looked like here compared to Carolina.

We’ve seen no growth in that regard. He creates high danger chances but has relinquished more. All the good he does at Center can be done at wing.

It’s moot because he’s not moving.

I'll throw a few more in the that might be more like Gus,

PA Paranteau
Anson Carter
Marc-Andre Bergeron
Matt Cullen

Just because you don't stick in a place for a prolonged period of time doesn't mean anything. It's about your role on the team and where you fit in the future of the organization.

He has a skillset we don't have a ton of right now (LH puck moving D) and could end up being replaced by someone in a similar role (Jones) or someone that fills a different type (Robertson). Some guys become stop-gaps. I don't think it has to do with a commitment issue with the player or team, it has more to do with what the role is and if there are viable replacements within the organization after a season ends.

If Jones and Robertson are not NHL level players after this season, or at least have that expectation, I could see them trying to bring back Gus.

The guy who even the flyers are willing to pay to get rid of?
Politics aside he's terrible defensively. He didnt look absolutely terrible when playing with Slavin, one of the best pure defensive defensmen in the game. As soon as he was separated from Slavin, he made Erik Karlsson look like adam fox.
He's been bought out by 2 teams, when teams won't even take him at 2 million/yr (flyers were willing to eat 50%), for a 50+ point defenseman. It says he's a cancer. And not the astrological sign.

Id say a center should be capable of hanging around the net physically (on the defensive side) but chytil is fine at that.
I also don't think puck transition is a center thing.
Wingers are typically the first forward out of the zone, and thus are your more likely puck transitions.

DeAngelo mastering the art of getting paid for relaxing at the Spa.
He's also lost 5 million because he can't act like an adult.

No one believed Deangelo would mesh with Torts, and I can’t say I blame Deangelo here. If he’s a locker room problem in Philly, apparently so is degen Kevin Hayes. Watch both have rebounds with their new teams.
