We saw Goligoski do this with Minnesota where he signed a 1 year deal for way less money and then half way through the year he signed an extension for a bit more once Minnesota opened up some space. It was a handshake agreement between the player and team. It's risky for the player obviously in case an injury occurs.

The only one year deal Goligoski signed was for 5M and then his extension was 2 years for 4M total. How is that comparable?

Who are the guys from Laf's draft class with no "draft stock" that have forced their way up a lineup over a Kreider and Panarin? As far as I can see, only Stutzle and Raymond have scored more than Laf in the NHL from that draft, both had "draft stock" and neither had to force anything. They were given elevated opportunity.

They should emulate Kreider's work ethic and see where that takes them. I'm not even saying they are lazy, I'm saying Kreider is a level above most in his off ice work.
Huh? Our way to justify that the first overall pick from the draft that hasn't really forced his way into any particular role in this organization 3 years in is to look at everybody that was drafted behind him and ask who has managed to do that? That's what we're dropping down to at this point? We're going to justify how bad the number one overall pick has been, mind you the runaway consensus number one pick, my pointing at everybody else behind him?

I can't name another one overall pic in the last couple of decades that anybody else would sit there and go it's okay that he's been bad because the people behind him haven't been great. What is going on around here anymore

You specifically talked about guys without “draft capital” forcing themselves into and up the lineup. All I did is ask who. And tried to make it apples to apples by using the same draft class. How is that justifying ANYTHING? I have said ad nauseam that Laf has disappointed relative to his draft position. Stutzle and Raymond, also top 10 picks have done well, but I can’t think of any examples of what you said. I guess you can’t either?
AND AGAIN THIS IS NOT SIGNALING IM SATISFIED WITH LAF.

Here me out here. If youre drury and youre planning on trading a 2nd at the trade deadline to acquire a player of tarasenko’s caliber why not just tag a 2nd to goodrow now if thats what it takes you to move him and then sign Tank for 1 year at $4mm?
I mean yeah that makes sense bc as a win now team they’ll move it then anyway probably unless the kids take off

Buying out Goodrow made so much sense that I assume there's just an organizational moratorium on that stuff now that would probably extend to throwing away more picks and prospects to get rid of a guy.

I wasn't talking specifically about his draft year. I don't think he should be measured the same as the rest of his class personally, he was significant steps ahead at draft time and he's been bypassed by others. I'm talking about players from other classes. Hell there are players drafted more recently that have forced their way onto their teams at this point, but if you're looking for another from his class specifically that you didn't mention, Jake Sanderson has already become more impactful on both sides of the puck

In theory yes but not Tarasenko after the libero we did on him for 31 + 7 games. That’s where the disconnect is between this fanbase and reality. Can’t wait til he’s foisted on Carolina or Jersey so we can quit this S.

I looked at draft class because it was pretty unique with COVID the year of the draft and their D+1s. This way that can’t be used as differentiating factor. As I said: apples to apples. But which guys without “draft capital” after the 2020 class have done that? Forced their way in and up the lineup. Not being a jerk, I’m interested now. You’d think there WOULD be a couple, right?

Something feels wrong about trading Goodrow, Blais, 1st and 2nd for a year and a half of Tarasenko..
worth it

I think you can deal Goodrow with a 3rd round pick attached. Then sign Tarasenko. It will cost a helluva lot less than the prices paid every trade deadline with conditions attached as well.

If Drury wanted Tarasenko wouldn’t he have just bought out Goodrow? Or maybe something changed and now Senko wants back? I dunno doesn’t make much sense to not buy out Goodrow if he was in the plans
