Only 6 UFA forwards since June 1 have signed a multi-year deal with a higher AAV than Goodrow.

Athanasiou 2 years 4 per with Chicago
Barbashev 5 years 5 per with Vegas
O’Reilly 4 years 4.5 per with Nashville
Bunting 3 years 4.5 per with Carolina
Compher 5 years 5.1 per with Detroit
Killorn 4 years 6.25 per with Anaheim

That Goodrow contract stunk since day 1, should have been such an easy buy out last week.
Most of those contracts are terrible. I would rather have Goody then Compher and his deal for instance. Plus ROR and Killorn are old, are they going to finish their contracts? Erik Haula is a fairly close comparable and he just signed a 3 yr deal for 3.1. Goodt is overpaid but not by much.

I would be willing to move CK or Bread if it meant getting a legit player back. I know they have NTC but those are often waived. I think Bread gets too much bashing on this board. He does a heck of a lot of good things. I'm just considering age and salary.

Not only this, but context matters, too.

The majority of teams are facing tight cap restrictions right now, and that can bring down prices, as we have seen what looks like some pretty good deals so far.

Goodrow has had career years with the Rangers -- 31 and 33 points so far, more than 120 hits each year, and 60% or more of his starts have been in the defensive zone. That costs money. If he was a bit better at his face-offs, that would be even better value.

Like you said, he's overpaid, but not by a whole lot. Teams also value that Stanley Cup experience.

So you think CK is old and gets paid too much? 90 goal scorer the last 2 seasons. Do you have any concept how much in today's market that would get. His contract is very reasonable. Plus last time I looked he is still one of the best and fastest skaters we have on this team. Honestly as soon as someone hits 30 people on this board think they are too old.

Ive been one of CKs biggest supporters for years. Before his last 2 years. If CKs 40 goals would bring a lot back you listen to offers. CK is one of the fastest skaters in the NHL but stopped using that speed years ago. I have no idea why. Its one of his biggest assets just sitting on a shelf. A large percentage of CKs goals are scored within 5 feet of the net. Nothing wrong with that but they aren't scored based on his speed. Id like to see CK skate harder and throw his body with a purpose again. Im a big CK fan. Im not dumping him. Im saying if we got a very good offer for Bread or CK I would listen based on age and salary.

First, let me say thanks for subscribing to the Rangers GM. Drury denied our report about the Rangers having gauged the trade market on Alexis Lafrenière, saying on Saturday afternoon that “there’s nothing further from the truth. I haven’t talked to one GM about Alexis. We hope he’s a Ranger for a long, long time.”

We’ll stand by our sources and agree to disagree. It was never going to be an easy decision to move the 2020 No. 1 pick and the Rangers were reportedly telling teams that inquired Saturday that they were not moving Lafrenière, so this may never have been more than sticking a finger in the wind. In any event, Lafrenière is here, he’ll likely sign for a year or two around $2.5-million per and he has a real chance in September to show he’s hungry for more with this team. The opportunity awaits.

Also, it won’t be the last time the GM and I are at odds, trust me.”
Man he is such a clown. Double downing on his fake BS.

Trade Howden to the Habs for a 3rd now, pizza bitch.

it's not about being a 3rd line but more of playing a role.

He defaults to our best 'matchup' LWer. Or it could be Goodrow but then we have no RWer.

The problem is the balance of the roster.

Kreider is best when not overplayed. Losing maybe a minute at even strength per game (He'd be loaded up late game down goals) won't hurt him, especially as he works into his 30s.
