yeah he was underutilized on a stacked Boston team, a perfect guy to buy low on. he could skate circles around ben harpur. not shocking that the Panthers signed him, they have one of the smartest front offices in the league and already have done this twice before with Montour and Forsling.

Watching Marc Staal skating around like a blind Llama, sucking the life out of his team for real critical minutes at a pop, made it hard for me to believe that I was really watching the Stanley Cup Finals.

Might as well go all in on the over-30s before the retool begins.
Rangers did very well today. Added depth on low risk contracts, and it’s going to create a lot of competition at training camp.
So far i think Drury did ok today. Would have liked him to go after Sam Steel but otherwise he did the best he could with limited cap.

My thing will be is the team better than it was opening night last year. I think that is a resounding yes. Here is last seasons opening night lineup
Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko
Panarin-Trocheck-Kravtsov
Lafreniere-Chytil-Goodrow
Vesey-Carpenter-Reaves
Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Jones-Schneider
We don't know what it will look like for lines, but the replacements are:
Wheeler > Kravtsov
Bonino > Carpenter
Pitlick/Belzile > Reaves
Gustafsson > Jones (we'll find out if Jones improved)
Our step back is Quick. Halak was very good, especially after the early point of the season.
Also, none of these guys are going to block a young player so long as they are better.
Drury has sured up a bunch of the margins. If you get Miller and Lafreniere around 6M, you're looking at ~800k in space that will accrue for a deadline deal or 2.
I defer judgement on the Quick deal until we see Halak’s numbers. This is a downgrade and may bite us.
