No one is thinking of him that way. Everyone is interested in seeing him play 4th line LW. His skillset, temperament, size and contract all line up very well for getting that last spot for 10-12 minutes a night. He didn't look out of place last season, albeit overexcited, and when he went back to Hartford after that stint he played even better. All the things you mentioned you want to see him do, he already did in the AHL. Except score at a point per game, which many players never do, so that is a pretty lofty ask as a pre-req before giving them a shot in the NHL over who? Carpenter? Brod? Lesh?People are talking about Cuylle like he was at or over a ppg. He scored 45 points in 69 games and didn't light the world on fire in the playoffs. He's an intriguing prospect but he's 21. I'd like to see him get closer to a ppg if he can develop into that. 4 months in the AHL for a 21 year old isn't just stonewalling him

I feel like those days were filled with people complaining that they didn’t draft enough high end talentWhat if he is, hell go to Hartford cause of some NMC they will give Motte
I want someone drafted as the depth. Rangers have enough damn vets. Make 2 lines of younger cheaper talent.. Remember those days when they drafted Jesper Fast, Ryan Callahan Dubinsky types.
Im so happy you have nothing to do with the Rangers Organization.A. True, but he shouldn’t have been signed anyway. Even in a world where the cap has been rising he wouldn’t have been worth the money right now. The timing of his signing was so stupid, it looks worse now because of the flat cap.
B. If you want to go by raw point totals, sure. His playoff performances have been underwhelming to terrible and his presence has gotten in the way of developing the 1st 1oa this team has ever had since the expansion era. I get that he was signed before the team had that pick, but his presence has had a negative impact on our 2oa as well (Strome got forced onto the PP for no reason in 2019 and stayed there bc Panarin. Kakko was pretty much relegated to any line that didn’t have Panarin on it because he was allowed to hand pick his line mates.) Again this comes down to timing.
C. His production has dropped in each of his four seasons. Scoring has gone up in each of these years. It’s a trend that seems to be glossed over. I think his overall game was better last year than it was the year before (where he was genuinely horrible for most of the season) but he’s clearly in decline (and a ton of us saw this coming.)
D. He was a wagon in his first year, I won’t deny that. He had no business making the team this year.
E. I’m willing to take a drop off in raw point totals if it means adding more rounded players who actually show up when it matters. You could do a lot with his 11.6.
Trouba is absolutely a hindsight thing and of the 2 moves, actually made more sense due to his age when he signed. It wasn’t a move that needed to happen though.
I have a bigger issue with Panarin’s contract anyway. We could have lived with and handled Trouba, most teams have a bad contract on their roster.
We can’t live with 2.
2nd rounders arent nearly as valuable as people pretend. Just gave you examples of the final 10 picks of the 2017 2nd as those guys are now 24 years of age. Not one has even played a full nhl season. Some not even a single gameno
surrendering assets also dumb
listen to bern
deal later
no retention
The Trocheck signing drives me nuts because Chytil came off a breakout playoff round. It was completely unnecessary, and put us in a bad spot as our younger players get better. If Kakko breaks out next year there’s going to be a real problem, even with the cap going up.The kane fiasco last year, i also think the trocheck signing was awful. Now we have a $6m 3rd line center, for 6 more years.
With trade protections.
He is a good player yes, but that contract is woof. It would have been smarter to sign a vet on a short contract and let Chytil play 2C. Though his dumb dumb coach he hired wasn't smart enough to figure out how to use players.
Him keeping leschcysingnsn for so long, not putting lindgren on IR to circumvent cap and bring up players. And othet player/cap moves that just dont make sense.
He just doesnt instill me with any such confidence.

I mean, I actually think Brod and Lesh will prove pretty valuable this season and maybe next. They are making below league minimum. Not by much, but every penny counts. Haha
How bad does Hathaway want to play for PL? Would he take $1.2M per? Something like that for a year or two? I'd rather him than Motte. Goodrow would be a solid checking line piece for PL since he apparently prefers to have one.
Kreider - Zibanejad - Kakko
Panarin - Chytil - Lafreniere
Goodrow - Trocheck - Vesey
Cuylle - Brodzinski - Hathaway/Motte/FA
Rangers are going to buy out Goodrow and then give Hathaway like a 4 year deal to get him to come and we will be in the same situation in a year

The thing that kills me too is that I like Trocheck as a player a lot.
I would LOVE hathaway. Get me my ideal lineup and im happy as a pig in shitHathaway has interest in playing with Laviolette again but Rangers can't fit him without a Goodrow buyout, Staple mentions Bellemare as a cheap 4C option (dont hate that). Interested in Halak, Quick and Talbot for backup G.
No, AFP who is rarely wrong has hathaway at 4 X $2How bad does Hathaway want to play for PL? Would he take $1.2M per? Something like that for a year or two? I'd rather him than Motte. Goodrow would be a solid checking line piece for PL since he apparently prefers to have one.

It has happened every summer for the last 4 years to the point it is totally dumb and stupid. Those that push this agenda look at his contract but in reality is is a very fair contract. Secondly the concept of getting rid of a guy who has scored over 90 goals the last 2 season for a team struggling to find top 6 guys is insane. And they push this agenda in order to create playing time for players who have been disappointments. The more I see these posts the more I am convinced that very few on this board have the slightest amount of hockey savy. They think the Rangers should be run with the mentality of one managing a rotisserie team.Where is this trading of Kreider coming from?
Easy solution. Its the worst kept secret ever that one of kreider/trouba is getting dealt next yearThe Trocheck signing drives me nuts because Chytil came off a breakout playoff round. And Chytil did his typical disappearing act at times this season. He has yet to prove he can consistently play at the necessary level. And BTW he was nonexistent in the playoffs. You look at some of the youngsters that came up big for NJ and compare them to FC and realize he has a ways to go. And yes he was a first rounder and he has more years experience. The Trocheck signing drives me nuts because Chytil came off a breakout playoff round. flip side of that coin is late picks can also be gems, and 2nds, 3rds > than those.2nd rounders arent nearly as valuable as people pretend. 10. Vladimir Tarasenko, New York Rangers
Age: 31 | Position: RW
PuckPedia contract status: Finished an eight-year deal carrying a $7.5-million cap hit
Last season: 18-32-50 in 69 games (16:48 average TOI)
CJ’s take: A perennial 30-plus goal guy who didn’t light the lamp as much as he would have liked following a mid-season trade to the Rangers. Tarasenko still seems like a reasonable bet on a shorter-term contract. One potential red flag is the fact he generated 2.13 shots per game last season – his lowest total since his sophomore season in 2013-14. Carolina is among the teams expected to show interest.
I'd rather Kreider than Trochek by a quite a bitEasy solution. Its the worst kept secret ever that one of kreider/trouba is getting dealt next year
