No one is thinking of him that way. Everyone is interested in seeing him play 4th line LW. His skillset, temperament, size and contract all line up very well for getting that last spot for 10-12 minutes a night. He didn't look out of place last season, albeit overexcited, and when he went back to Hartford after that stint he played even better. All the things you mentioned you want to see him do, he already did in the AHL. Except score at a point per game, which many players never do, so that is a pretty lofty ask as a pre-req before giving them a shot in the NHL over who? Carpenter? Brod? Lesh?

I mean, I actually think Brod and Lesh will prove pretty valuable this season and maybe next. They are making below league minimum. Not by much, but every penny counts. Haha

Drury calling around about Goodrow, but we have like no second rounders or third rounders (thanks, Nemeth) to attach, so a buyout may be necessary. We'll find out soon.

Goalies - Quick is mentioned. Cam Talbot is mentioned. Thomas Greiss is mentioned. Halak, obviously could return. We don't have much to offer money-wise, but we're appealing because of Igor and Benny.

Drury is believed to be targeting bottom-six players. Garnet Hathaway is mentioned as a guy who would love to play under Laviolette again, but he may be out of our price range. P.E. Bellemare is also mentioned as someone who may be of interest.

How bad does Hathaway want to play for PL? Would he take $1.2M per? Something like that for a year or two? I'd rather him than Motte. Goodrow would be a solid checking line piece for PL since he apparently prefers to have one.

Goodrow - Trocheck - Vesey

D. He was a wagon in his first year, I won’t deny that. He had no business making the team this year.

E. I’m willing to take a drop off in raw point totals if it means adding more rounded players who actually show up when it matters. You could do a lot with his 11.6.

Trouba is absolutely a hindsight thing and of the 2 moves, actually made more sense due to his age when he signed. It wasn’t a move that needed to happen though.

I have a bigger issue with Panarin’s contract anyway. We could have lived with and handled Trouba, most teams have a bad contract on their roster.

We can’t live with 2.

2nd rounders arent nearly as valuable as people pretend. Just gave you examples of the final 10 picks of the 2017 2nd as those guys are now 24 years of age. Not one has even played a full nhl season. Some not even a single game

He is a good player yes, but that contract is woof. It would have been smarter to sign a vet on a short contract and let Chytil play 2C. Though his dumb dumb coach he hired wasn't smart enough to figure out how to use players.

Him keeping leschcysingnsn for so long, not putting lindgren on IR to circumvent cap and bring up players. And othet player/cap moves that just dont make sense.

He just doesnt instill me with any such confidence.

The Trocheck signing drives me nuts because Chytil came off a breakout playoff round. It was completely unnecessary, and put us in a bad spot as our younger players get better. If Kakko breaks out next year there’s going to be a real problem, even with the cap going up.

The thing that kills me too is that I like Trocheck as a player a lot.

I agree on Brodz and Lesch. Lesch specifically is actually still young and should continue developing. I think those are good depth options for the team.

By no means do I think Cuylle should be a hard no in terms of competing for a spot. What I don't like is handing him the spot. Go sign a vet for $900k, of which there will be more than a few available, and let them compete. Worst case scenario is the vet doesn't win the spot, they get waived and they have another depth option. I'd even be okay re-signing Lockwood and going after someone like Hinostroza or Kiviranta.

I don't think that's going to happen. This is Hathaways opportunity to make money. He's going to get near $2m from someone. Maybe a bit more.

I keep saying this and I will continue, if the team is paying for a 4th liner, go get a good 4C like Eller. Someone who can help drive that line towards moving the puck efficiently away from their own goal, win faceoffs, etc.

Having 3 very good centers is the right approach. Trochek is not at all overpaid and he's a great fit for what the team needs.

It has happened every summer for the last 4 years to the point it is totally dumb and stupid. Those that push this agenda look at his contract but in reality is is a very fair contract. Secondly the concept of getting rid of a guy who has scored over 90 goals the last 2 season for a team struggling to find top 6 guys is insane. And they push this agenda in order to create playing time for players who have been disappointments. The more I see these posts the more I am convinced that very few on this board have the slightest amount of hockey savy. They think the Rangers should be run with the mentality of one managing a rotisserie team.

Easy solution. Its the worst kept secret ever that one of kreider/trouba is getting dealt next year
 
What is the buyout formula? It’s crazy to me that they actually get a credit for two years buying out Goodrow. How the hell does that work?

This is a rhetorical question. I looked it up on CapFriendly. Still seems dumb to me.

Has anyone played with the math and figured out if there is a way to structure a contract with a plan to buy it out that would give a team a massive credit for a couple of years?

And Chytil did his typical disappearing act at times this season. He has yet to prove he can consistently play at the necessary level. And BTW he was nonexistent in the playoffs. You look at some of the youngsters that came up big for NJ and compare them to FC and realize he has a ways to go. And yes he was a first rounder and he has more years experience.

flip side of that coin is late picks can also be gems, and 2nds, 3rds > than those.

just b'c some idiots don't draft well doesn't mean we should disregard the potential of their value.

It would be the most Rongos thing to trade Chris Kreider. The only player living up to his contract and actually out producing it.

Lets keep the overpaid dead weight.... hockey is different here.
