no. except for Jones any of them being penciled in is a mistake.

I don't agree with that. The coaching staff's mandate should be to find a mix of these veterans and youngsters that work. Cuylle & Jones at minimum should be in the NHL out of camp and Othmann/Robertson can get some seasoning and coming up in December/January. It's a much better strategy than paying UFA contracts to bottom 6 players.

The kane fiasco last year, i also think the trocheck signing was awful. Now we have a $6m 3rd line center, for 6 more years.

With trade protections.

He is a good player yes, but that contract is woof. It would have been smarter to sign a vet on a short contract and let Chytil play 2C. Though his dumb dumb coach he hired wasn't smart enough to figure out how to use players.

Him keeping leschcysingnsn for so long, not putting lindgren on IR to circumvent cap and bring up players. And othet player/cap moves that just dont make sense.

He just doesnt instill me with any such confidence.

Drury's not perfect and I wont fight you on every point because youre not wrong, but I still dont get the Trocheck hate. You need 3 good centers to win, and at least 2 who are defensively responsible. We have nothing at C in the organization behind Chytil and Mika, so they had to pay for one who will be here awhile. Trocheck had a productive year and only has an NMC for this season and next. He's not even overpaid.

Also my theory is that Ramsey got fired because of how they were handling the Lindgren injury. That was irresponsible for cap and roster reasons, in a season where a playoff spot was already in the bag.

them not getting rid of Goodrow tells me they see players on ELCs or Leshitshow as NHL players, both of which are bold and bad strategies.

Or they're going to trade someone else. Goodrow is the obvious candidate because he's overpaid for what he brings. That doesn't mean he's the only large contract on the team who could be dealt of course.

I don't think they're going to trade Panarin, Trouba, or Zibanejad but Kreider? Maybe. The team needs cap space and he's a guy with significantly positive value that could realistically fetch a nice return and actually free up something considerable cap wise. His NMC becomes a NTC next summer and he could work with the team to find a better landing spot now than when he has less control.

Would it be pretty stupid? Depends on the return, I guess. But I don't think buying out Goodrow is a look Drury is willing to wear. He's made 3 notable UFA signings since taking over and already had to pay a team to take on off his hands. I don't think he wants to buy out another.

At this point salary retention might be the best option.

At least last season, Trocheck had the same amount of points as a guy who jus got 8.75M and assets to acquire. 65 points is more than adequate for a 2C

Cuylle should be in the bottom 6. He can skate, play physical, he’s 6”4 and almost 220. Ideal what you want in a bottom 6 player and he’s 828K.

Kid scored 25 goals as a 20-21 year old in the AHL and looked capable physically in the games he played in the NHL. IDK much more we need to see to give him a shot. Why sign Garnet Hathaway when we can just develop our own with higher upside?

Elevating over the grand scheme of things....

Maybe Panarin turns it around... Maybe he turns into a Kane in this coming Playoffs... but smaller skill guys typically ( KEYWORD HERE ) Typically do not find the same success in the postseason as they do in the regular season. The exchange rate sucks tbh. This is not just isolated to Panarin.

SO... in saying that, I'd be OK with moving on from him IF there was a serviceable replacement. "How are you going to replace his production". I don't care that much about regular season. I care much more about postseason production. I don't want to go 'full Lou' but I want some playoff performers. For way too long we've had massive underachievers in the postseason.

If I’m gonna take risks as a “win now” team I’m more willing to do it with guys in the bottom 6 than top six (unless they are 1/2 OA picks). I would have no problem with Cuylle in the bottom 6 with or without Goodrow.

Think people are way overhyping Cuylee lol

He might get a spot out of necessity, but thats about it in terms of handing him a spot

Same with Othmann

It’s a bottom 6 role, I’m not expecting him to score 25 goals or anything. Can he get 22 points? play like a PITA? score 1 point in 7 games in the playoffs? Then he’ll be as productive as Hathaway for 1.2M less..

The team also just needs an infusion of the youthful aggression Cuylle (and Othmann) play with. Goodrow, Trouba, Trocheck, Kreider also need to be encouraged to play more physical and intense. It's whats been lacking the last couple years, and weve only really seen that high intensity play in spurts. Im happy Laviolette recognizes it, and I think the pieces are in the organization.

Nothing will make me happier than to watch Noon come and go with no Goodrow on waivers. This board is perpetual meltdown mode.

Saying he should be on the roster out of camp = overhyping him. I'm not expecting him to be more than a Hathaway/Kolesar type.

Weeks ago I told hawk fans theyd take barclay goodrow if the rangers opted to move him. They laughed. Goodrow has 4 years left at $3.6 and the hawks are 3-4 years away from competing for a playoff spot. Hes better than foligno and perry. Heck they could still possibly even take goodrow off our hands if we wanted to move him.

Rangers need an additional 15 points more each from Kakko and Laf (ideally Chytil too). That puts them around 60 point guys with Panarin,Zib and Kreider already. They don’t have cap without shedding a bigger contract so it’s up to coaches (I’m interested in Muse) to earn their jobs. Lav also needs to get them to play more and not just rely on the skill they have. He’s mentioned it already, they need more “will” and to compete harder every game. There were many games they looked great (including 3 playoff games) but too many ( also including playoffs they looked like they didn’t want to be there).

If the Rangers trade Kreider because they couldn't find a taker Goodrow and they didn't want to buy the latter out, I may be done with this team.
I mean it would depend on the return obviously but yeah that would on the surface be really dumb.

I dont think anyone is overhyping him. Most think hes a 12-14 min a night guy who over 82 probably posts something like 20 total points

Buyouts are dumb. Dead cap space is a killer. If you have to tag a 2nd to goodrow to move it, you do it.
Not this one. By the time he’s due to count really anything against the cap there will be a 100M cap or lock out. They will also be free of veterans whether they are signed or traded early (Panarin, Trouba, Kreider, etc) and paying the kids or just rebuilding.. Again

Laviolette did this with Protas in Washington last season. Young guy, but a big and strong player that can fill in on the 4th line and bring that style of play.

Cuylle should be given every opportunity to run with it. If Othmann is going to be in Hartford, you still have Berard, Trivigno, possibly Sykora, Edstrom, Korczak and Rempe as young guys. Brodz, Blidh, Elson, and Cardio Jake as more veteran options. Would think they'd want to keep Lockwood since he was traded for the "chosen one".

What is the worst that happens? He can't cut it and gets sent down? Happens to young guys all the time.

Move Goodrow and find a cheaper and shorter term replacement for him. Try and find a decent veteran option that can move up and down the lineup at RW. 3LD competition for Jones/Robertson and maybe a better swing veteran option that Harpur. Backup G at the near minimum. Lock in Miller and bridge Laf. There isn't really much else you can do.
