Take this for what it's worth, which admittedly isn't much, but as my wife and I were leaving Sloan Kettering today after chemo one of the guys at the desk saw my Shesty shirt and asked what I thought about the rangers signing Jonathan Quick. Told him I hadn't seen anything like that and he said that's what he was told... by who? No idea. Just thought I'd pass it along for conversation that doesn't involve trading Panarin or buying out Goodrow.

I'm not arguing who is better, just that they would appear to fill similar roles for a team and while Colton may be better, is he a 2nd round pick better?

This is what I mean:

Say I am the San Jose Sharks. I rebuilding. It's doubtful I am going to get a good veteran to sign here for various reasons. I could trade a 2nd rounder for a guy like Colton, or I could trade a 6th rounder (and possibly shed a contract I don't want) for Goodrow. I think I would choose the latter.

But I don't think they fill similar roles. I think there is a very good chance Colton sees significant minutes on the top line with MacKinnon or second line with Johansen and/or possibly Rantanen if they split them up as they did a bunch last year.

Also as others have said, if the Rangers and Pens are talking anything its probably Tro.

Outside shot its Panarin with a contract coming back. Pitt has more cap space than I initially thought.

Rooting for the Trouba scenario even though that has a less than 0% chance of happening but it would be the funniest.

Probably saw the Pagnotta tweet about it. It makes a ton of sense if he's willing to sign for pennies. He is from CT and grew up a huge Ranger fan. My concern would be that he is cooked physically but if he is still in game shape maybe Allaire can fix him. Doesnt appear Halak will be back.

There's a good chance Nischuschkin's contract gets voided or he goes on the substance abuse program and misses all of next year. This is Colorado's move to fill his spot.

I wouldn't hate Quick for NHL minimum. There's always Spicy Pork if there are major issues.

My only concern with Quick is that he seems to be a goalie like Hank that needs a heavy workload to stay sharp. Quick wasn't great in split and back up duty. Looked rusty most times, but of course not against the Rangers at MSG last season.

It's likely filling the Evan Rodrigues spot who played in the top six for a good portion of the year. Both of them are known for having a good shot/liking to shoot at all.

It's been a rumor that i've seen popped up 2x so far over the last couple weeks.

Hope you or your wife is doing well, stay strong!

I would not make the same mistake twice. Bring him back and dump Goodrow off to whoever takes him. Fast does everything we want Goodrow to do.

I see Lucic is probably going back to Boston

The Bruins love to not let the past be the past. Team gets treated like greatest dynasty in NHL history despite having the same mount of cup wins as us in the last 40 years

Looks like Jesper is making the same mistake twice looking for a 4 year deal. Rather Hathaway if were looking for a grinding winger

Maybe the Rangers trade Schneider for another first and are banking on Emberson? He was good in Hartford for sure.

I would not be in favor of adding Schneider to the 23rd just to move up. Thats a waste.

I like Schneider but he's undeniably blocked by Fox and Trouba for the long term, and will be making real money after next year. Similar logic to Lindgren if they trade him now. I expected nothing from Emberson but he was KAM's roommate at Wisco. Getting something out of him at the NHL level would make that Nemeth trade to AZ much easier to stomach

If you knew you could sign Soucy or Mikkola for, say, 3 years @ $2.35m per season on July 1st, would that change your mind?

I really like Lindgren, but signing a mainly defensive d-man in UFA as a back-filling mechanism is an option.

no it wouldn’t. Mikkola showed he can’t handle top 4 minutes for an extended period of time and soucy is going to get more than Lindy. So no

Fast signed the only longterm deal in front of him with Carolina. In fact, at 2Mx3, it was actually LESS as a percentage of cap than the 1.85M/3 year deal prior with the Rangers.

Other than token interest, the Rangers let him walk because they thought his shoulders wouldn't hold up.

Jesper Fast deserves EVERY dollar he finds on the UFA market and wish him well. Rebuilding teams should give him a blank check, he's the type of guy you want in a locker room showing the right way to be a pro.

Emberson was always a solid acquisition in that trade. He is like Lindgren actually. Not flashy, just solid defense. Difference is that Lindgren is not blocking anyone, so wanting to trade his is not the same thing. Jones, Robertson and Scanlin were all good in Hartford, but Jones hasn't grabbed it at the NHL level yet and the other 2 weren't as good as Emberson.

Basically, there is already an opening on LD behind Lindgren and Miller. RD is full, but the team might want the cheaper Emberson to fill it out and get another high pick for Schneider.

Trading Schneider is just asinine. He’s a 21 year old NHL player on an ELC. I don’t get the logic. You move Trouba when you can and slide Schneider up. What’s “real money”? He’ll be off his ELC making 2-3M

Plot twist - Rangers and Pens are talking Trouba.

This is not a thing, but if it were it would be HILARIOUS to watch all of those asshat Pens writers try to about face on him.
We're not that lucky. Better chance of winning the lotto than moving Trouba.

If they like Emberson, who is much more suited to being a bottom pair RHD, and can get good value for Schneider (who Drury didnt draft btw) Im open to the discussion.
