Guhle is the guy, not Xhekaj
forget Guhle, want Barron +/++

Doubt they'd trade Guhle unless for an overpayment. He has concussion issues i believe.
forget Guhle x 2

Let’s combine some high unlikely rumors together for something of (almost) Bern proportions!

Laf to MTL for Guhle and 5th overall
Schneider to VAN for 11th overall

At 5 - take one of Smith, Carlson, Leonard, or Michkov
At 11 - look into combining with 23rd overall to trade up to take Michkov if possible, if not, take one of Dvorsky, Perrault, Moore, Benson, or Barlow
At 23 - look into trading back for a later 1st plus a second. Otherwise take bpa

Sign Carson Soucy to play on third pair with Guhle. Still need a top 6 RW, unless you play Chytil there, in which case you’ll then need a 3C.
not addressing those specific suggests,
silly rabbit, Trix are for kids
silly poster, ONLY bern can deliver authentic outside the box bern level thinking!

but thanks for props

It's kind of like Keaton as Batman in the original; Vale asks why he does it, and he says to the effect, I'm the only one who can...

Can we just get to the Goodrow buyout, no one has any money. Take the two years of credit, third year is minimal. By the bad 4th year, the league will be in a lockout.
NO
stop pissing away $$$
classic comedy quote: a fortune pissed away!!!
hold for now use bottom 6 emergency stop gap, but basically 4th line, and when inevitable injury excites demand THEN add a 3rd-ish and get a 2nd-ish.
Stop w/addiction to instant gratification, win now syndrome.

Rangers are going to be rebuilding again in three years - this team stinks
Did not listen to bern then
If not listening to bern now, will likely have to endure history repeating itself.

The Devils continue to get better and the Rangers are attempting to scrape together two pennies to build out the team
Again, not listening to bern.
We reap what we sow
People take digs at me, but I was honest and upfront and called it in real time then and I wuz mostly right.

Can Boo Nieves play goal?
Silly Dave, taking a swipe at Boo, I believe fully retired now due to multiple concussions.
? is non sequitur
Boo was never a star, but he was on paper a good fit to pivot Kreider w/Zib at RW, and eff R mgmt for never at least trying it.
No risk to try.

it's frustrating, we're forced to sit by and do nothing because we quite literally can't do anything and we have no wiggle room for experimentation. We put ourselves in a hole in 2019 without even realizing it.

If Drury was really off the zaza he'd pull some chess type move in the next 24 hours to change the shape of our immediate future and make a statement.
I can't blame him at this point though, we're locked in with what we already have. I don't see us making it past the 2nd round next spring unless a miracle occurs and the coaching staff hypnotizes this group. I like the players on this team but we just don't have a GM willing to be savy like other GM's. Drury isn't going to get "creative" right now and he's not about taking risks because he's a smart reserved person but sometimes the key to winning in this league is taking massive gambles and I'm sick of seeing other franchises do that and benefit from it meanwhile we're sitting here with our thumb up our ass. At the very least, I expect us to have a very entertaining summer of 2024.
Patience.
We need to build.
We were poised to have a 5-ish yr window, maybe 7, and we effed it up.
We need to deal some big names, sell high, create new foundation.
If 1-2 steps back to go 5-7 forward, that = profit, great.
We reap what we sow.
Build, damn it, build

On my honeymoon in Hawaii but just got the green light to watch the draft tomorrow. Starts at 1pm here. Epic day.

….I did get sucked into a spa day the following day though. I think I made out ok.

Hoping for a hectic draft day tomorrow!!
1. Visited there as a kid, fabuous locale, imports can be expensive, but wonderful place to spend time. Enjoy, have a great memory.
2. Congrats.
3. Quoting a character from 1776, [movie based on play], "Give her a flourish for me, Johnny!".
4. May the draft be entertaining for us all, and directly/indirectly productive for Rs.

Larry has seen the light. Larry has been reading this thread.

1)Try to trade Goodrow for value. Extra pick or two. Good luck. Or a cheaper player the Rangers can use. Cheaper as in $1M or so.
2)Try to trade Goodrow for nothing. Goodrow for a UFA expiring contract or some mid-level prospect/career minor leaguer. Pacioretty and Hall trades.
3)Buy him out.

The 4th year of the buyout is $3.65M. However, the current CBA expires after the 3rd year of the buyout. The salary cap should be approaching $95M-$100M by then.

Maybe the Rangers can sign more than two players from that group. Some of those players are looking for $2M. The cold smack in the face is coming. Money was tight last summer. Try to get them in the $1M-$1.5M range. Somewhere in the middle. One year. Money will be tight this summer. Dubas will be looking at those players. Maybe offer a pro tryout. Build a team with 13 good forwards.

Kreider
Zibanejad
Kakko
Panarin
Chytil
Lafeniere
Trocheck
Vesey
Othmann
Cuylle

That's 10. Three more forwards. 13. If Othmann and/or Cuylle start the season in the AHL, the Rangers will still have good depth. Very player is slotted better. Offer a tryout deal for $800,000. The kids won't be blocked.

Barbashev is getting a 6-7 year contract for $5M-$6M. He is one of the few players who will get paid.
Agree w/all this generally, no to buy out at this time

I plan to trade bread and possibly trouba and rebuild, will post when I can
til then
later peeps!

Trading down to recoup more picks and take two swings in the top 50 instead of just one is the correct move.
Unless wood somehow falls.
He’s the one player I’ve thought fits both our timeline and roster like a glove.

Brooks was pushing Kane to the Rangers, and Kane went to the Rangers, thats all I'm saying. Saying Brooks isn't plugged in and using that as an example makes no sense. Clearly he has some idea of what's going on.
I agree he likely has some legit insight.
But also to some extent, is he a shill for what R mgmt wants to put out?

I don't know why people are so pessimistic, all the NYR need is for Panarin and Trouba to play like $19.6M
not sure how realistic/doable all of that is
to extent feasible, should consider paying to move
work w/replacements who are cheaper, younger, better fits

Id definitely trade back from 23 and I would be interested in dealing Lindgren to recoup picks. The Rangers could get an effective defenseman to fill his spot for half the price he is currently paid.
I’m sorry what? How is lindy a cap dump at 3m per year for a top 4 dman that adds they physical element on defense that nobody else brings. Troubadour is just open ice hits so no.

then you think someone who will make 1.5m can take his place? come on stop this

possibly
depends who is on the board
depending on who
maybe adding to 23 to deal up is the correct move

I am flexible here
but main MO is move bread and possibly Trouba

needs further development, but something around
Trouba retained by 3 and Avs 2023 3rd
for
Zadina + Blues 2023 2nd

is something that can work

w/Hronek dealt,
Trouba = natural 3RD on his fave team growing up behind
Seider + Lindstrom,
he knows he's gonna be moved next season, so since it is to a place he's good with, maybe he waives

we are mitigating our cap picture
Zadina = ? but chemistry w/Chytil?
If we move LaF for profit, we are prepared.

Spot on. Some of these Lindgren takes are really, really bad.

Lindgren needs to get paid next year and has finished 3 straight seasons injured. The same people who want to keep and sign him are the ones who will treat him like Girardi was treated when he signed that big extension. Those who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it.

They'll have to see how the board shakes out. If a player like him or Perreault for example is there and they have them top 10 on their board, you kind of have to take them. Those guys have top line upside.

Lindy is not a cap dump, per se,
but
we need to sell high and inject youth of Robertson, Scanlin w/mins
even if growing pains

that’s not rue, some people are trying to give him a retirement contract. If you keep it at a 4x4 contract he is well worth it and keeps him before the Girardi take. If we keep him till 29/30 there is nothing to be worried about and if you want to trade him in 2 or 3 years when he has term left and you. have a replacement for him then go for it. But thinking you can move the guy and back fill his position for less then idk what to tell you bc it isn’t happening

So going to be harder to move guys like Goodrow out. Where are all the posters that said we wouldn’t have to attach anything?

There’s no evidence that there is more upside to be had, because the physical tools have not translated.

I’ve talked about the D thing before but I don’t think this is a Chicken/Egg thing. Neither the underlying numbers nor the eye test suggests the D is going to be able to stop treating the puck like a grenade. The personnel isnt there
I still say we wont have to attach anything, CERTAINLY not a 1st or 2nd like some lunatics have suggested, and would in fact buy him out before we do that. What has changed?

so you sign lindgren to a 4x4 contract that takes him to the age of 29/30 which is before the Girardi take that you mention. We can then deal him with term if e decide that we are ready to move on from him and have someone that can take his spot. Right now we don’t have that option nor is there a better option out there for 3m or less.

Nothing has changed. You are just wrong.

He will get bought out or he will get traded for like a 2029 6th rounder OR we will have to attach something good

Neither are ready yet per se. I’d love to give them both a shot but for them to play top 4 min or Robertson or jones or f***ing Harper.. that’s what you would have in top 4. Disgusting

Yes, but why not both?

I don't see a scenario where Goodrow gets traded without some cap coming back. I think Detroit is ready to cut bait with Zadina
Going in with a top9 reliant on young talent has higher risk. It's why I've liked Engvall. His floor is good. He also has untapped potential in the top9 IMO. Especially if you put him with someone like Panarin

If you think he's signing 4x4 next year with the cap jumping thats dandy I just dont think its happening. He provides very little offensively and isn't irreplaceable. There will be plenty of fine defenseman who get squeezed on the open market, and Jones/Robertson both have 2+ pro seasons under their belts. The Rangers have every reason to give them an opportunity with the cap where it is. Oft injured players also dont usually become healthier as they age unless their play style changes. I don't dislike Lindgren, but if you can get a late first or a couple seconds and add 3 mil in cap space, why wouldnt you?
