We dont have the cap room.
Get rid of this guy

The Devils are now head and shoulders better than us ; they’d sweep.

No money - bloated contracts , dogs, frauds , overrated prospects - we are fkd.

Why would laviollete take this job .

He's not exactly a catch himself.

On my honeymoon in Hawaii but just got the green light to watch the draft tomorrow. Starts at 1pm here. Epic day.

….I did get sucked into a spa day the following day though. I think I made out ok.

Hoping for a hectic draft day tomorrow!!

I'm not going to worry about the Devils and the moves they make. Last season the best team we've seen in decades lost in the first round. At the end of the day, this is still hockey and it's inherently random in outcome. The best team on paper doesn't always win, hell, the best team on the ice doesn't always win.

All we can do is worry about the Rangers. Hope they make the best moves possible to improve the roster, hope Laviollette can instill his system and the team plays well this year.

What was it, $5-6 million/season? That's a good reason.

Hanifin is better than Lindgren and Lindholm is better than Chytil. Sorry Rangers would be taking advantage of the fact neither one of them want to sign in Calgary.
The difference in signing them would probably be 8M.. (Chytil/Lindgren make 7.4 combined, Hanifin/Lindholm probably double that. Can’t afford it without moving a big contract too

Some of the people who cover these teams are clueless. Winnipeg got back three roster players in the trade for Dubois. LA needed to move money in the trade or in an subsequent trade to pay the player. You could see this move coming when Elliotte reported LA was taking a big run to get the player. Look at the math. Villardi is owed a new contract. The KIngs have a group of signed forwards. They needed to make the money work. Durzi was traded to make the money work. The Kings have some young D who are cheaper and one of them is no longer waiver eligible.

The people who cover the Rangers. Vince must get paid by word. He rambles on and on during his podcasts discussing players the Rangers can't afford. He writes these 10,000 word essays on these different players the Rangers can acquire. Mollie is another one. This morning she wrote Drury could trade the pick for immediate help but the Rangers can't afford to pay the player. The dumb fans read this shit and get mad when the Rangers don't acquire Toffolli. We can trade Goodrow and acquire Toffolli.

Drury is waiting to see if Goodrow gets hit by a cement truck right up to the moment we have to make a selection before trading down to dump goodrow.
Drury subscribes to the Lou Lamoriello school of managing. If you have time, use it. The trade market sucks ass.

I think some people here are overreaction, but this is what happens when you hand our big contracts with NMC’s. There’s just not a lot of flexibility.

The one guy that I hate missing out on is Barbashev. He’d be so perfect here.

Rangers just drafted Barbashev's brother last year. Doubt that entices him to take a payout. I'd love Barbashev. One of the most underrated players in the league. Hope his younger brother Maxim becomes half as good. Lets hope Rangers sign Maxim before June.

But moving Goodrow makes sense if management can use his money to sign two players with similar qualities. The Rangers are going to be swimming in the shallower end of the free-agent pool, anyway. If they could add, say, Teddy Blueger and Garnet Hathaway or Noel Acciari or Nick Bjugstad for the price of Goodrow, it will merit discussion.

If the Rangers move Goodrow, who has a 15-team no-trade list, there is no reason at all to add a sweetener to the deal the way Drury was obligated to last year in sending a pair of second-rounders to Arizona in order to get Nemeth’s contract off the books.
That is because a buyout remains available through Friday that would not only erase Goodrow’s full cap hit but somehow add a $200,000 credit to the ledger this year and a $100,000 credit next year. The folks at CapFriendly have said they cannot remember seeing a contract quite like this one.

The Blueshirts wouldn’t begin to pay in any meaningful way until they’re clipped for $1.26 million for four seasons beginning with 2027-28. Do you think Drury or chairman Jim Dolan are concerned about 2027-28?

So, if management decides maneuverability must be created by shedding Goodrow’s money but cannot find a trade partner willing to take No. 21’s full ride, there is an attractive alternative.

Larry has seen the light. Larry has been reading this thread.

1)Try to trade Goodrow for value. Extra pick or two. Good luck. Or a cheaper player the Rangers can use. Cheaper as in $1M or so.
2)Try to trade Goodrow for nothing. Goodrow for a UFA expiring contract or some mid-level prospect/career minor leaguer. Pacioretty and Hall trades.
3)Buy him out.

The 4th year of the buyout is $3.65M. However, the current CBA expires after the 3rd year of the buyout. The salary cap should be approaching $95M-$100M by then.

Maybe the Rangers can sign more than two players from that group. Some of those players are looking for $2M. The cold smack in the face is coming. Money was tight last summer. Try to get them in the $1M-$1.5M range. Somewhere in the middle. One year. Money will be tight this summer. Dubas will be looking at those players. Maybe offer a pro tryout. Build a team with 13 good forwards.

Kreider
Zibanejad
Kakko
Panarin
Chytil
Lafeniere
Trocheck
Vesey
Othmann
Cuylle

That's 10. Three more forwards. 13. If Othmann and/or Cuylle start the season in the AHL, the Rangers will still have good depth. Very player is slotted better. Offer a tryout deal for $800,000. The kids won't be blocked.

Barbashev is getting a 6-7 year contract for $5M-$6M. He is one of the few players who will get paid.
