Never rush into all this noise. The Rangers usually go barreling in and it bites them. Let's sit back, let the smoke settle and see what opens up. We are not in cap trouble the way some here would have you think. If we were, they wouldn't suggest trading a 3.6 million dollar contract of a 30 point player to then turn around and use 4.5 million on 2 20 point players and a million on a backup goalie. Haha

The dramatic reactions in this thread right now because the Devils traded for Tyler Toffoli is just too funny. “Drury stinks”, “We’re doomed”, “This Team Stinks”. Legit too funny.
it's frustrating, we're forced to sit by and do nothing because we quite literally can't do anything and we have no wiggle room for experimentation. We put ourselves in a hole in 2019 without even realizing it.

If Drury was really off the zaza he'd pull some chess type move in the next 24 hours to change the shape of our immediate future and make a statement.
I can't blame him at this point though, we're locked in with what we already have. I don't see us making it past the 2nd round next spring unless a miracle occurs and the coaching staff hypnotizes this group. I like the players on this team but we just don't have a GM willing to be savy like other GM's. Drury isn't going to get "creative" right now and he's not about taking risks because he's a smart reserved person but sometimes the key to winning in this league is taking massive gambles and I'm sick of seeing other franchises do that and benefit from it meanwhile we're sitting here with our thumb up our ass. At the very least, I expect us to have a very entertaining summer of 2024.

I wonder if Lav will be much more willing to use Panarin Zib Kreider line. I remember Gallant didn’t but when he put it together I remember one game they scored like 4 goals in 5.5 minutes. Kreider finished with a hat trick.

I wonder if Lav can make it work with an actual structure. They shouldn’t be afraid to try it. Kid line second line or whatever. Just give them ample minutes.

See what works in camp/pre season the best

What are the “creative” risks that just occurred? You mean the cap dump trades? What has Drury missed out on that would have been so creative and thus franchise altering? I don’t get it. And because he, like many, many teams are tight with the cap, especially the competitive teams, is not doing something to wet the appetite of some here, we are now not making it past the 2nd round?

This was not an awful team last year. It just wasn’t. It wasn’t a perfect team, but it was by no means awful.

I'm willing to be patient to see what unfolds for us, I'm of the opinion we should use the kids, and add at the deadline.

Buyout Goodrow gets us to 15.4 in cap

4 for Miller
2.5 for Laf
1.5 for Halak or whoever (or just give Halak a million, and push the 500k in bonuses to next season)
812K for Jones on the roster
5 million for last 4-5 forwards between youth and cheap vets.

Around 13.9, well under the cap and start banking the money for the deadline.

They could score goals obviously but they were too lackadaisical at times a lot. This is where coaching (structure, making them buy in, etc) comes in.

Goodrow on a buyout over 3 years would cost the Rangers 825K of cap space total. By the 4th year when it’s 3.6 the Rangers will probably have traded off veterans (if there’s even hockey the new cba will be required and we know how this goes). Rangers likely have a 3 year window anyway. It’s really a no brainer if they can’t trade him.

lol every team is getting better than us this offseason
The Devils sure are doing a great job of acquiring career Ranger killers. First Palat, now Toffoli.

I'm half expecting an announcement tomorrow morning from Justin Williams that he's coming out of retirement and signing a one year deal with Jersey.
If the canes get Tony D they will have gotten worse. I’m ok with that.

Alec Martinez is a UFA. The Devils will sign him to continue down their NYR killer path.

Anyway it’s sports, I bet if you took a survey of 100 people last year zero would’ve predicted Florida vs Vegas in the final. That’s why they play the games lol

I dont think Calgary had a choice with Toffoli. No one wants to play in Canada and if you look at their team make up they do not have any RFAs except Dube. If everyone who can leave as a FA in the next few years they will have a tough time signing guys to replace them thus trades are their best option. I honestly think Drury could make a move or 2 here.

Hanifin 2 mill retained for Lindgren.
Lindholm for chytil

Rangers could sign both next year if they move Trouba or Kreids. Calgary returns players who will both be there for the next few years.

Won't happen but Calgary with the Toffoli return looks desperate and I believe they want to try and complete instead of rebuild.

That'd be pretty bad for the Rangers.

Thing is, Goody is a good player for a team like the Hawks. Not Josh Bailey intangible corpse at 35 but an actual guy that you'd want to be create a competitive environment and be a bit dirty.
Only thing I have against Goodrow, other than Gallant thinking he was a top six player or even a 3rd line player, is his contract.

If he were making half what he's getting now and he were stapled to the 4th line like any coach with a brain would do, then Goodrow would be fine.

It would have been easier to stomach giving up a pick with Goodrow if we hadn’t already given the Yotes 2 seconds for Nemeth, and then another third to take a portion of the Kane salary.

Buyout seems like such an easy decision with the two full years of credits they get.
