That’s REALLY tough. I’m very back and forth, it would depend who is left..Anybody do #11 for Braden Schneider?

That’s fine and all but that’s still not my problemThe MLB, NFL, and NBA all have trade protection clauses too, and players in those leagues are better compensated than NHL players, in sports that are for the most part less dangerous than the NHL. Players give up compensation in return for those clauses as well. If they're on offer, they'd be silly to not take them
From a value standpoint, that is pretty fair. That’s REALLY tough. I’m very back and forth, it would depend who is left..
He was the first defenseman to hit 100pts in over 30 years...And the Norris Trophy goes to Erik Karlsson wow. He did not deserve to win this

Sure but it's not called the best defensive defenseman award either, defensemen have their own role in offense doing certain things that forwards don't. His offensive output this season was more impressive than whatever defensive output the best defensive defenseman had, he had a historic season. Especially after being seen as an over the hill injury plagued player with an albatross contract. Well deserved winnerI mean there was 0% chance that he wouldn't win it putting up the numbers he did but he was absolutely terrible defensively/in his own end. Award should be "best offensive defenseman" award.
And he can’t play defense, which is what the award is actually for. Karlsson played 30 short handed mins this season. Fox played 174 and Makar played 162 and missed like 20 games. It’s a joke.He was the first defenseman to hit 100pts in over 30 years...
We can thank the hard cap for that. When you're limited by a hard number how much money you can have on your roster you need to find other ways to incentivize players to sign and if the difference between getting a guy you really want or him going somewhere else is giving him that trade protection then you have to do it, especially when it's become the norm.Just heard an interesting fact: there’s 217 players with some form of no trade clause in this league, that’s ridiculous
The award is not for defensive play. It’s for being listed as a defenseman. And he can’t play defense, which is what the award is actually for. Karlsson played 30 short handed mins this season. Fox played 174 and Makar played 162 and missed like 20 games. It’s a joke.
Not in the playoffs… or at 11.6 million. He’s not the third most valuable layer in the league, not close, but he is paid as such. Hes a valuable player in the regular season, though I doubt we miss the playoffs without him. Though honestly, if we are going to be shown the door in the first round because he is a no show, maybe it would be BETTER to miss the playoffs and get better draft picks. Most underrated player by his fanbase in the league
That’s great, but he’s taking him at that dollar amount for 4 years? … and if we retain on him, then we need to replace him so what’s the point. We paid a lot to move Nemeth, but Goodrow’s number is just as bed with twice the remaining term.they can afford him. We could get 2-3 strong bottom6 players from Goodrow's salary.
In theory it sounds nice, but are we really protecting teams from themselves. Plus, once you had your number you couldn’t add certain guys in free agency. Deadline deals would be nearly dead since most contenders would be at the limit. It doesn’t work.Agree 100%. Each team should only be able have a certain number of players with NMC'S, NTC's, etc.
They leaned too hard into the Nashville angle. Love the music, love the attitude, but why is a country music star hosting. Plus they threw his son into it which was annoying and you could tell awkward for the players. No idea who this guy is hosting the awards but he is absolutely terrible. Maybe the worst host for any show on television I've ever seen in my life.
I’d strongly consider it depending on whose available.Anybody do #11 for Braden Schneider?
Are you sure about that? He certainly maximized his last contract.Kane has made over 100m in his career. He’s not looking to maximize earnings.
The NBA has had only 10 players gave a no trade clause. A player is eligible if they had played in the NBA for 8 years and 4 years for the team they are re-signing with. MLB has a 5 and 10 rule. A player who has played five years for his team and ten years in the league. A player with 5 and 10 can veto a trade without having a no trade. Some baseball players do have no trade clauses. The NHL is ridiculous. Every free agent gets a clause. Very few NFL players have a no trade clause. The MLB, NFL, and NBA all have trade protection clauses too, and players in those leagues are better compensated than NHL players, in sports that are for the most part less dangerous than the NHL. Change the eligibility for the clause. I don't blame Krug for not waiving his clause, He negotiated that. The CBA allows it. Krug gets a 7 year deal and a clause as a free agent.Agree 100%. Each team should only be able have a certain number of players with NMC'S, NTC's, etc.
Thanks for this post because you explained it better than I could but this was basically the point I was trying to makeThe NBA has had only 10 players gave a no trade clause. Those players are better compensated than the hockey players because they have more revenue. The media rights for the NBA, MLB and NFL dwarf the NHL.
