Drury is unhinged

It feels like that WW2 question is one that should have been asked of the Blackhawks coaching and front office staff back in the day.
Although obviously their answer would have been 'look, we worked hard to get into this firing position so I don't want to disrupt it now by launching rescue craft...'

I saw Elliotte on Nick Alberga's show with Jay Rosehill. Former Leaf. Matthews will sign a 4-5 contract extension with the Leafs. $13M AAV.. He discussed Nylander who is also up for a new contract this summer. The Leafs would do 8 years and $8.5M AAV. It seems Nylander wants more. Both Matthews and Nylander can be free agents next summer.

So much for Matthews playing for the Rangers in 2024-25.

if that's true, they are going to be a major pain in the ass to play against.
Yup. But on the plus side he's out of our division so we'll see him less and the Caps have no muscle anymore with Hathaway gone too. I hope the Rangers punish that team and fanbase for the next decade just so I can harvest the tears.

Edit: I guess Oshie is low key dirty too but he's just about done.

Only pieces we can move that bring down the cap significantly are Goodrow, Lindgren, Chytil.
The trio would bring down the cap by 11 mil. 11 mil would allow you to sign 1 stud and 2 duds/entry level contract . Or 2 mediocre players and a dud/kid. Or 3 mediocre players.
Another possible move we can make is to trade RFA's like Laff, Kakko, Miller who could demand another teams prospects/RFA's or possibly signed players with retention.
Only other option is to run someone with a NMC out of town(Panarin, Trouba, Kreider). Seems unlikely given the high $ and the hard cap.
Gotta say Drury actually has more options than you'd think. With the coaching change I wouldn't be surprised if there is more change over this year than last.

Also, the contract is only bad because covid froze the cap, we should be sitting close to 100 mill by now.

Would you do it to add a couple mill a year to your next contract...most would
Kane has made over 100m in his career. He’s not looking to maximize earnings.

Just heard an interesting fact: there’s 217 players with some form of no trade clause in this league, that’s ridiculous
Quick maths says that's about 1/3 of active roster players across the league, so not that surprising IMO. Especially with the flat-cap and post-covid landscape players are pretty keen to have as much control as possible in where they go.

A quick look at our roster on capfriendly shows we currently have 7 players with trade protection, so we are pretty much bang on the NHL average

It’s way too high in my personal opinion and leads to stagnant player movement and lack of excitement around the league, too many players who aren’t deserving of that right but like I said it’s just my opinion, I don’t think the Goodrows of the world should be able to hold things up and it should be something reserved for upper echelon players

Agree 100%. Each team should only be able have a certain number of players with NMC'S, NTC's, etc.

I'd trade Lindgren for a pick in the teens this year without hesitation. Teams looking for a defenseman in that range may look to get an established product with team control beyond this year rather than wait 2 or 3 years for Simashev, ASP, or Wallinder to marinate.

That, or deal Lindgren and Goodrow to Anaheim for a 2023 2nd and Cam Fowler at 50% retained.
yes Ana but this is better...
1. Panarin + 3 R 1sts 2023, 2024, 2025
for
Vatrano + 3 Ana 2nds 2023, 2024, 2025

bread does it b'c he has legit chemistry w/Strome, contracts run simultaneously
Ana does it bc more than an upgrade, it = chance to flip AP + RS as a pair.

NY gets 8ish m cap relief, and Vats is a useful W.

Now
2. Do not want aging Fowler.
Instead, take Drew Helleson, huge former 2nd rounder 2 elc yrs left + another 2nd round pick
for Lindgren + Avs 2023 3rd

We need RD not in pipeline
Trouba, until dealt
reserve RD, but primary checking on 4RW

Lindy = losing a young RD but rejuvenates when they deal Fowler elsewhere
____________

Trouba. He may waive now if we accommodate to prefered relocation
Wings lost Hronek
Trouba + Jones
for
Zadina + possible smaller cap dumps

------------
We can promote kid line
if signif value on the table for LaF, pull the trigger.

Say we continue with the thought experiment of dealing Lindgren for another 1st.

I fully expect a USNTP kid to be taken with that pick and Simashev to be the pick at 23.

I am going to try to put together a 1st round mock before Wednesday night, but it would not surprise me to see Simashev go top 15 if he interviews well. I expect there to be a run on defensemen after Detroit's pick at 9 if all of the teams picks stay the same as they are now.
Not clear who pays for Lindy.
Maybe Sabes
Maybe other.
Do our 1st like I said, move bread

we can examine other options to add once we get out from under

Speaking of Lindgren, would anyone do:

Lindgren for Broberg + _________
Oil will not
I said Buch for 11OA, prior to that I said Buch for 9OA or whatev Bro was.

No one listened to me

Bro is great all around, size, puck moving, etc and I would see what we can do but Helleson is like a 6'5" stud
go there

back to all in like 24 hrs

These players have lives and familys…

Sorry but that’s not my problem and they are compensated very well, I watch the sport to be entertained and lack of player movement is something that dampens the excitement around the league, it sounds harsh but that’s sports, it’s about winning and entertainment and as I said they’re compensated very well for their troubles and they knew the deal when they decided to be a pro athlete

The MLB, NFL, and NBA all have trade protection clauses too, and players in those leagues are better compensated than NHL players, in sports that are for the most part less dangerous than the NHL. Players give up compensation in return for those clauses as well. If they're on offer, they'd be silly to not take them
