I like the idea of Wheeler at 2M+ if he’s bought out. Plays RW which we need, big, can skate, puts up points but yes he’s a lite old

Not that big of a deal, but Drury deserves credit getting Jones signed for 2 years at $812.5K. I thought for sure a 1 year deal closer to a mill. It’s a good move, he deserves credit

I had one year/one way $800,000 on my excel spreadsheet for Jones. His qualifying offer was a two way offer worth $874,125. Two years $800,000 and $825,000. $812,500 cap hit. I like Jones but Drury needs to upgrade the 6/7 D from Harpur.

In terms of guys we have discussed, here are some projections from their sheet:

I'm highlighting who I would like from this group based on these cap hits

Acciari - 2 years @ $1.55m
Bertuzzi - 6 years @ $5.32m
Blueger - 2 years @ $1.12m
Brown - 4 years @ 3.33m
Dadonov - 1 year @ $1.92m
Donskoi - 1 year @ 0.775m
Eller - 2 years @ $1.58m
Erne - 2 years @ $1.1m
Fast - 2 years @ $2.35m
Foligno - 1 year @ $1.17m
Frederic - 3 years @ $2.3m
Gurianov - 2 years @ $2.3m
Gustafsson - 3 years @ $3.45m
Hagelin - 1 year @ $0.775m
Halak - 1 year @ $1.12m
Hathaway - 4 years @ $2m
Heinen - 3 years @ $2.48m
Hinostroza - 1 year @ $1.08m
Holden - 1 year @ $0.962m
Hornqvist - 1 year $1.06m

Kampf - 2 years @ $1.8m
Kulikov - 1 year @ $1.7m
Leivo - 1 year @ $0.775m
Lucic - 1 year @ $0.775m
Mikkola - 3 years @ $2.59m
Monahan - 1 year @ $2m
Motte - 1 year $ 1.05m
Nieto - 2 years @ 1.42m
Nosek - 2 years @ $1.255m
Nyquist - 2 years @ $3.233m
Pacioretty - 1 year @ $1.5m
N Ritchie - 1 year @ $1.446m
Rodriguez - 3 years @ $3.75m
Sheary - 3 years @ $3.2m
Tarasenko - 3 years @ $5.1m
Zucker - 5 years @ $5.49m
The Rangers could build a good bottom six with the cheap options such Blueger/Nosek, Motte, Acciari, etc. Some players won't be qualified. Frederic? They won't break the bank. Hopefully, last summer was a reality check for Motte. One year/$1.35M. He didn't have a great season last year. His demands of $2M-$2.5M were ridiculous last summer coming off a very good season for him in 21-22. Bjugstad settled for $900,000 last summer. The contract projections for Bjugstad are dubious. $2M plus for Bjugstad? Drury gave Gauthier $800,000 and Carpenter $750,000. Prior to making the disastrous Kane trade, the Rangers were looking to add another depth piece for the bottom six after re-acquiring Motte for Gauthier.. Bjugstad was being mentioned. Drury could have had him for $100,000 more than Gauthier. Acciari settled for $1.25M. Vesey accepted the NHL minimum salary on a try-out deal. $750,000. The NHL minimum salary is $775,000 this season.

The Rangers sign three players from bottom six bargain bin. They already have Trocheck and Vesey. I like Chytil moving up into the top 6 to play with Panarin. The two young players in Othmann and Cuylle. Seven players. They also fish in the $775,000 pool as insurance for one of the young kids not making the team out of training camp. The Rangers could always assign that player to the AHL.

With Vancouver buying out OEL, they open up cap space, might be easier to deal with them. Do they still try to move Garland (not advocating it, just curious).

I’d think they now don’t have to but with that said they could still trade him

That team needs turnover

Myers with an asset for cap space after he gets his bonus Money July 1st seems obvious

Rangers will be Bagain bin shopping on guys like OEL that should come cheap now

I really hope the plan is to build depth
Waive Harpur he will clear. Sign a cheap LD/RD
Vesey should be viewed as the 13 th F
Othmaan and Cuylee call ups. No rush unless they earn it fully in camp
go cheap on the backup G. Brossoit or Ned?
Halak would be smart to just take a deal or he may not stay in the league

I was watching the NHL Network yesterday and EJ Hradek said he could see Quick being the Rangers back-up goalie next season. He was discussing the Golden Knights goaltending situation with Kenny Daneyko.

Quick is from Connecticut and he grew up a Ranger fan.

Halak would be the better option based off his last play from last season. Quick wouldn’t be a bad option but it would have to be for $1M. Quick has made more money than Halak is his career. Quick could be cheaper than Halak.

Would be absolutely wild if we signed Quick and he won a Stanley Cup here after blocking us in 2014

Good thinking here.

Jones really HAS to be in the lineup to make this cap stuff work. Lafreniere to the right side. Motte 2 x 1.1M. Othmann/Cuylle given every opportunity out of camp for 3rd/4th line. A couple of pieces like those suggested above.

Othmann is better served doing a year in hartford than playing 4th line.

Also, dont sleep on matthew robertson as 6D

Laf on the 1st line with Zibs; Miller on the 1st pair with Fox; Othmann and Cuylle both up with the team, Brodz too; Jones or Robertson on 3rd pair with Schneider. Goodrow traded or bought out. Lindgren traded, we won't be paying that 2nd contract and he is starting to show injuries catching up.

Laf Zib Kane
Panarin Chytil Kakko
Kreider Trocheck Othmann
Cuylle Brodz Vesey

Miller Fox
____ Trouba
Jones Schneider
We wont pay the 2nd contract because of injury concerns for Lindgren, but you gave Kane a contract to play on the top line? lol

I can never figure these things up. Does this imply defensively hes one of the worst in the whole league?
Not at all, it’s always the positive version (like goals against would be inverted, so least goals against) red always indicates the bad number, so blocks is the only one he scored very poorly in. Though when your teams controlling play you’d tend to not have many, unless they’re somehow accounting for that
