You could dramatically improve the team by replacing Panarin and Goodrow's salary with multiple players.

Should be our top priorities over the coming months. Just one isn't enough.

How much do you think Hathaway makes? That's my major concern with him. $2m?

He gets more.

Hes a bottom 6'er who won't be impacted by the flat cap.

The alternative is that Drury fires GG, brings in another coach, and keeps the roster relatively static for one more season.

Next offseasion is when Trouba's NMC expires. He and Panarin could both go in a total overhaul. Lindgren needs an extension, and Shesty has one pivotal year remaining on his contract. I'd like to see changes this summer but 'one more run' with Panarin and a new coach also seems possible.

Maybe he takes a 1 or 2 year deal in the 1's.

I don't see how you get rid of Panarin with the NMC in place. No one has an answer for this. We are stuck with him.

Honestly I think it’s probable. The reality as we all know is it is really hard to make moves in the NHL right now. Flat cap again. It’s going to be extremely difficult for Drury to change much this summer particularly within the vet group.

Oh we don't want that to manifest itself here LOL.

That said, Knoblauch at least has extensive coaching experience at lower levels. Boone never managed a game in his life before getting the Yankee job but hiring a guy with no NHL HC experience is a realllllllyy tough sell. Hartford has to either go deep or probably win the calder cup in impressive fashion in order for that to even be on the radar.

Tough sell to who? We've had plenty of coaches with tons of experience and were still sitting here with 0 Stanley Cups in 30 years. Prior NHL experience shouldnt mean anything

The answers are within this organization, sans a minor addition or two but this organization wants to win yesterday and does not have the patience to help young players become stars. We have a ton of good players, a ton but the focus has been on wins and not building up the young talent we accumulated. Lafreniere,Kakko, Chytil Othmann, Sykora Cullye, Berard, Jones Robertson, Miller, Schneider are all excellent to good prospects, no debate on that, its how we treat them and foster their abilities that dictates if this team in a cap world can win a cup. If these players aren't key contributors, we will never get there, the focus has to be on developing these players. I personally don't believe Drury and his hardline stances or Gallant and his,"Nhl isn't a development league" ideas are helping any of our kids hit their potential, because if they do believe that then these kids should be in Hartford in a development league until they are ready not forced into a situation they themselves basically point to them not being ready for.

I hate to be a “tuffness” guy, but the Rangers need some dogs. To me the skill is fine. They need guys that play the game hard to compliment the skill. They need “dawgs” up front that do the dirty work in the corners and will go to the front of the net.

I agree with all this. I have hope based on previous decisions that Drury's priority is to commit more to the youth. It's the only real viable option for the roster at this point anyway

The problem with this organization is that any time someone mentions toughness they go looking for 4th liners. This team needs guys in the top 9, but moreseo in the top 6 that are gritty, puck hounds. I think given more ice time and better offseason training Laf can be that way, also think Cullye and Othmann can add that too, maybe Berard. The problem is the team has no patience.

Wasn’t Toronto tanking at the time.

Yes but I don't see how thats relevant?

If management tells Panarin to GTFO it would behoove him to listen to them. Now he would get to pick his spot but there will be teams interested.

I think there is a misconception that a team would have to take him on at his full hit - I mean that would only happen IF salary comes back (Which I'm okay with.) Either that or you eat some money or both. Really what ever it takes.

It doesn't matter who they get to coach the team if he's still around.

Kessel has probably been type cast as unfairly as anyone ever has in this league and despite that, with 7 years and a shit load of money on his contract, Toronto was able to move him (with minimal retention.) Panarin is a 3 year commitment and I'm sure that he has fans in other organizations.

1. Hire Sutter.
2. Watch Panarin have the fear of God put into him knowing that Sutter would stomp a mudhole in his lazy ass.
3. Panarin lifts NMC and send him packing.
4. Give LaF a real shot.
5. Do not resign Kane or Tank. Bring up BO and don't make the same mistakes we did with KK and LaF on the third line.

Fire Gallant, hire Knobby.

RFAs
Miller 3 x 4m (Dobson contract)
Laf 2 x 2.5m
Jones 1 x .850m

UFAs
Motte 2 x 1.1
Halak 1 x 1.25

Laf-Mika-Kakko
Panarin-Chytil-(Goodrow)
Kreider-Trocheck-Cuylle
Motte-(4C)-Vesey
Brodzinski

Miller-Fox
Lindgren-Trouba
Jones-Schneider
Harpur

Igor
Halak

Taking into account a $600,000 bonus overage from this year & a Goodrow trade or buyout with no salary coming in, the Rangers would have 4-4.2 million to play with to add a speedy, grinding winger for Panarin's line (Quickie) and someone for the 4th line (Eller/Acciari/Rodrigues/Hathaway etc.). Seems like a pretty straightforward plan provided they smooth out the ES & PP ice time and play within a coherent structure. The team is the team and it's clearly a good one, but the formula needs to be tweaked.

I have major issues signing any 4th liner at above $1.5m. Even a center, which Hathaway is not.

I'd definitely keep tabs on him but there should be a large group in that same boat...

Hathaway
Eller
Acciari
Blueger
Fast

Again though, if they re-sign Motte, and I'm hoping he is well below $1.5m per season, then I don't see a real spot for another 4th line winger...
