Quenneville is a great coach, but man is that an ethical problem. I go after Cashman for getting wife beaters and dirtbags, now I’d have the Rangers getting this jerk?

Other than that I think the criticism of Gallant is spot on. He’s a caveman who needs cavemen to play his game. The Rangers don’t have that.

Right now, they'll have the 24th pick. If Florida and Seattle advance, it moves up to 22.

Needs to be someone that plays with pace, either up front or on the back end. Having a speed threat on the outside or down the middle will be paramount on moving forward.

Then who?
Sullivan preferably

Laviolette is also fine I guess

I refuse to be okay with hiring the guy who allowed the Beach stuff to happen without blinking. Some people don’t need or deserve a second chance and he’s one of them.

And if a team does give him a chance, I certainly don’t want it to be my team

For the Rangers, that screams goalie pick

Panarin to Florida for Reinhart and Bennett is about the best you can get. Panarin isn't going anywhere. Florida would also be crazy to do that deal. They have two $9M+ players already.

It'd be one+another piece.

And the multi 9 M players is a non issue. They don't have young help coming or draft picks (they are sans 1st until 2026) for the next few years. The time for them to strike the iron is now.

The problem is the solutions are everywhere because the problems are also EVERYWHERE

It's not just:

The coach
The GM
The pro & am scouts
The owner
Sather
Bread
The defense
Lack of skating ability
Kids busting or not being developed
Vanishing vets
Kane being a corpse
Lack of killer instinct
Refusal to shoot
Poor passing
Poor decision making

etc etc etc
blah blah blah

It's ALL of that and we have nothing we can do about most of it due to NMC & zero cap space

It's a shame it's come to this because Gallant had back-to-back 100+ point seasons with us. Statistically, he has the best W-L record of any Rangers coach. And yeah, only two years in. So from the inside looking in, it would seem like we're cutting off our nose to spite our face.

But you look at the Playoffs. You look at how, not even badly, but how lifeless the Rangers looked last year against the Lightning and this year against the Devils. You see how utterly outcoached he was by Jon Cooper and Lindy Ruff.

Gallant, if fired, will 100% get another HC job. No question about it. And perhaps he will get over that hump of being thoroughly outcoached in the Playoffs. But there's a win-now mentality with the Rangers and they can't afford to keep dicking around like this. They need to develop their youngsters, they need their vets to produce in the Playoffs and yes, they need to win a f***ing Cup, especially when you have the best G in the world, a top-5 defenseman, a top-10 C, one of the best PP players in the NHL, etc.

With Quenneville at the helm, that's more likely to happen than with Gallant. Quenneville has been to the mountaintop a few times. He's won it all a few times. He cemented himself as one of the greatest head coaches of this generation. Hiring Quenneville would instill more confidence in this team in not just making the playoffs, but actually making a legitimate run.

Tarasenko had a good series, but I just feel that paying 1. rounder + rentals are never worth it. Feeling it is better to do a reverse Lundkvist, get a young prospect that are progressing well, or a younger player on a good contract a la TBL for atleast a full season instead of getting a top liner at the deadline. The cheaper rentals like Motte feels like they are worth it, but feels like every year many teams just pays a to high price.

In the immediate aftermath:

Keep - Kreider, Zibanejad, Tarasenko, Shesterkin, Vesey, Motte, Chytil, Kakko, Fox, Lindgren, Trouba, Schneider, Miller
Dump - Panarin, Kane, Mikkola, Trocheck, Goodrow, Lafreniere

I'm not thinking about everything that has to go into this to make it a reality. Just what I would do if I could.

He also got to work with the best goalie in the NHL having a historic season, and an all-star lineup. And even with the impressive record, the underlying metrics say otherwise. The fact that its been 2 years and they still can't do a proper breakout says enough for me.

Quenville messed up clearly. That said, hes a human being. At what point has he served his time, learned his lesson and is accepted back? This no second chances thing doesnt sit right to me. People love virtue singaling by putting others down and not letting them get back up. Obviously, it should all depend on the severity of his crime. What he did was not right but isnt he allowed to f*** up and maybe learn his lesson and become a better human being?

Who here thinks Fox will age well with his pathetic skating ability? This league is about SPEED and defenseman need to be able to move the puck with speed. I love the guy, but he has a lot to work on in the off season.
I think they need to stop using him on the pk, cut his minutes back, he looked more and more tired as the series went on.

I brought up a Boeser + Garland package for Panarin many pages back. Assuming Panarin would waive for Vancouver.

Silfverberg had a rough season. 1 year left. He makes $5.25m. Maybe something along the lines of Silfverberg + for Panarin may work.

I still think a Duchene + for Panarin deal works for both teams. And it would be mroe attractive than most other options for Panarin anyways.

The only difference between what Quenville did and Joe Paterno did at Penn State is that children weren't involved. It's disgusting either way you slice it and there are some things that a person just doesn't deserve to come back from.

He's made plenty of money. He'll be fine.

Players I would be interested in targeting:

Barret Hayton
Jake Debrusk
Michael Eyssimont
Evan Rodrigues
Tyler Bertuzzi (if he's not too expensive)
Ghost
Radko Gudas (your cheap Trouba replacement after we leave him stranded at sea)

Q didn't make a mistake. He didn't just f*** up once. It also wasn't like he just thought some players were giving a guy a hard time. He knew about the whole situation, exactly what had happened, and not only didn't address it in some manner, but didn't even acknowledge it.

That isn't a mistake. Saying something insensitive, acting selfish, being mean to a player or staff member, is a mistake. Allowing abuse to continue because addressing it would be a "distraction" from a game is a character flaw bordering on being a bad person.

Could he come back? Sure. But he can't just wait in the shadows until the zeitgeist had moved on and he can slip back in without having done any work. He should be required to address the media. To speak with Beach. To answer questions about the situation. To be scrutinized. That would be fair and would make his return far more acceptable. Can't just wait in the shadows until the dust settles like a coward.

I posted this in the PGT but I think it belongs in here instead. Sorry for the double post either way.

Just a few things I’d like to touch on that have already been said

1. Laf played poorly this series, but at least in games 6 and 7 he looked good. I’m not absolving him and have commented on him in his player discussion thread. He is not getting traded. Calling for him to get traded is ridiculous when he’s making under 2.5 mil and still paced for 40 points. I understand the disappointment in him but he’s not the reason we lost.

2. I’ve seen a lot of hate on Kane during this playoff run, but at least he was creating chances and skating. You can live with a few defensive turnovers. He played significantly better than panarin and zib. I’d take him back if he would take 3-4 mil a season over 3 years. Play him on the PP and third line. He can still put up 70 points on this team.

3. Chytil was a complete no show this playoff and I thought he was worse than both Kakko and laf. I thought Kakko played well. He absolutely needs to start putting pucks in the net though.

4. Miller is either the best defensemen I’ve ever seen or an absolute trainwreck. During the series it looked like he was stuck handling a hand grenade. He’s young so I’d still give him some time.

5. Panarin and zib — I’ve never seen two 90 point players look so bad over a 7 game series. Panarin has (without checking) like the 3rd highest cap hit in the league and had 2 f***ing secondary assists in 7 games. That is atrocious. I’ve seen all the Hughes vs laf. But panarin is paid to be a superstar, laf is not. You don’t seen mcdavid, draistal, McKinnon looking this f***ing bad in a playoff series. He is paid to be the best player on the ice. I’ve seen a lot of people saying zib gets a pass this playoffs. But he was just as bad. Constantly getting out worked. I’d have serious discussions about him as well.

6. I’ve seen a lot of posters on here exclaim that the devils will be some super team going forward. Does everyone forget the oilers had like 9 top three picks in a row. Have mcdavid and draistal and still look terrible? Their goaltending will continue to be a problem going forward. 3 f***ing years ago we had the best prospect pool in the nhl and look where we are. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side and not every player they have is going to be a star. Even hughes was largely invisible during this series and nothing they have in the system is better than him. We still should have won this series Going forward we will both be good teams, but there is no way they will be able to afford all of their young players. It just doesn’t work that way. Cool your jets on the devils being some super team.

I have like 10 more points but I doubt you guys want to hear me rant for another 10

I don’t think it would be an overreaction to say that everyone on the team minus Igor is up for a trade. I’m not saying to fire sale by any means, but this team has many contracts of guys past 30 and our core isn’t getting any younger. If you can sell high on a guy like Panarin (still a great regular season despite the playoffs) or Zibanajed, you have to consider for the right price. I’m not sure who would take their contracts, but it’s worth exploring. This team needs depth and speed.

All Drury is going to be able to do is make some changes but mostly on the edges

They need to find more guys on the cheap that can play bottom 6 mins. Try to re-sign Motte if he’s cheap like Vesey. I’m not relying on guys like Cuylee at this point

Goodrow should be on the block, Lindgren should be on the block.

Panarin to Florida for Reinhart and Bennett is about the best you can get. Panarin isn't going anywhere. Florida would also be crazy to do that deal. They have two $9M+ players already.
I could see LAK being a fit. Gives them a star player, Kopitar cap hit will come down after next season when he's a FA. They have a ton of kids who have not made the jump yet. Panarin for their 1st, 1 of Turcotte(underwhelming top 5 pick who hasn't made it yet)/Kaliyev(30 pt player so far) & 1 of Moore/Kupari and NYR take back Campbell as a cap dump so they can re-sign Korpisalo.
