$610,891. Where does the $891 come from? Most of the overage performance bonuses are round numbers. The Stars have $372,829. The Rangers and Dallas have weird numbers.

$400,000 for Miller.

Here's a look at the 15 teams for the 2023-24 season and their charges.

While some teams will suffer from bonuses earned late in the season, the Rangers managed to create some breathing space. To qualify for the time on ice bonus on an entry-level deal, a player must rank in the top 6 for forwards or top four for Defence in ice team based on the end-of-season roster. Prior to the trade deadline, Braden Schneider and Alexis Lafreniere were tracking to earn a combined $400,000 in bonuses based on ice-time.

However, the trade deadline acquisitions of Vladimir Tarasenko and Niko Mikkola pushed them down the statistical rankings of the placement required to earn the bonuses. With New York already incurring over $610,000 in bonus overage for next season, not adding an additional $400,000 is significant.

Schneider needed to be top 4 in D TOI. Fox. Miller. Trouba. Lindgren.

Schneider did finish top 2 in blocked shots.

The Rangers incurred the bonus overage after acquiring Kane at $2.65M. One year and $1M for Kane next season. The salary cap is expected to be flat. $1M increase. Kane will need hip surgery. Maybe he doesn’t want to have the surgery because he could have undergone the clean up of the hip in prior years because the hip is a recurring issue for him. Maybe he does not like hospitals and doctors. Kane has a short list of teams he wants to play for. The salary cap will open up in 24-25.

Meh, just have Kane pull a Kucherov and LTIR him all year. If the healing time for the surgery is too quick and he would be expected back in Jan or Feb if he gets it in the summer, just say that he unsuccessfully tried other rehabbing stuffs and have him get the surgery later in the season. Have him magically be ready for playoffs and get some D at the deadline with the cap savings. Win win.

If anyone thinks the NYR are getting both Matthews and McDavid, you need to stop taking the hallucinogens you must be inhaling. LOL

I don't think anyone thinks we are getting either, but the question was posed, do you go after him if he becomes available?

Yes, every GM does, including Drury.

It's more of an exercise in team building philosophy but getting a 26 year old 60 goal scorer is definitely the way to go.

I think the team is pretty well locked up. Just by the looks of things and the contracts we have. All are mostly good dollar and term amounts that will have us competitive for a long time. If this team is going to go for a big fish, it is clearly McDavid. Panarin contract will be gone and getting the biggest star for the biggest market is the play. Don't settle for second best. I mean, it lines up a little too well.
That would be the NHL marketing departments dream

I don't think Drury does, honestly, given the cap situation, the NYR center situation, and the cost/term.

Every GM doesn't. It will vary by team.

Since when is your "team building philosophy" going out and hiring a UFA mercenary?

All of this is pointless, though. AM will either be locked up to term this summer or traded before his NMC kicks in. Any other avenue and the GM of the Leafs should be ousted immediately.

For Drury, getting either would be almost impossible without gutting the roster and trading every draft pick for the next 5 years. That would be impractical/stupid. Plus, major cap hits would have to disappear, and I doubt those high cap number players would waive their NTC/NMC to go to EDM/TOR or a team that would have the cap space, as those teams are likely in rebuilds. I don't think Lafreniere/Kakko/Chytil have moved the needle enough for those 2 team to move a Matthews/McDavid for them.

For the NYR to get either, they would have to be 35 years old/past their prime with a bad hip playing on a team that's in a major rebuild. It wouldn't surprise me if Matthews doesn't play his whole career, or even most of it, with the Maple Leafs, but I don't see the Rangers being a destination in his prime.

If Matthews wants to come here a la Panarin, Drury will move mountains to get him.

But agreed, it's pointless, because that's not how his pending free agency will play out.

I can honestly see Matthews going to a team like Miami.

If they somehow shed Bobs contract.. who would be moveable after next season. Even after July 1st, his salary is only $5M.

Add our $1608 in cap space from this year and you (mostly) get a round number.

I really would like this team to stick together.

I like Mikkola size and edge but we need another puck mover. Whether it's Jones or Ghost.

If Drury could keep this team in tact, he'd be a Legend.
thats the thing fully preventing me from enjoying this run as much as I can, that we might not be able to make such a run next year if we lose this year

If Ryan Reaves doesn’t request a trade do the Rangers have Patrick Kane and the 4th line depth they have right now?

I feel like the even better question is... if we let him go this offseason like we should have, do we need to dress 17 skater rosters to get Kane?

Round up the number then. $612,500 from $612,499. Miller had $400,000 in max bonuses. He reached his max bonuses. Top 4 in TOI. Assists. Points. PPG.

$212,500 is the max A bonus. Schneider has $400,000 max. There is a shots blocked category. Top 2. Trouba was first with 196. Schneider had 130. Fox had 125. Miller had 105. 92 for Lindgren. Assuming Schneider hit that bonus for $212,5000. That would mean Halak didn’t hit the $50,000 bonus.

I'm not talking about his team - I'm talking about him specifically. Big games - he doesn't show up. He seems content with early playoff exits and having an extended summer.
What does AM just do? Park in front battle, tips one home. 2-1 leafs. Built for playoffs
