Did you miss that Zucc was pissed at leaving the rangers and very likely wants no part of returning? Did everyone miss that?
He decided on minn, because it would mean the rangers wouldn't get a first rd pick. Does that sound like a player who wants to come back on a cheap deal because he misses ny?

I don't really care honestly I was joking. And if he is still bitter it's time to move on.

Zucc was pissed for sure, but I don't think it'd mean he'd never return if the opportunity came about for both sides.

Plus, the management isn't exactly the same as when he left.

Why is it he needs to move on instead of us collectively moving on from one player?
The fan base really needs to stop overobsessing with players who had a run in NY, just because they did at one point doesn't mean they have to come back.

I didn't bring it up and, again, I was making a joke.

So long as you don't move every draft pick every year you can have a farm system, especially if you're willing to take some shots and let kids simmer.
The issue is when you need to rush a kid like othmann because he's the only cheap option you have.

If you move first round picks, thats fine, so long as its not every single year, or only in years with weak classes.
But Look at this year, we still have a first, we have a third.
Next year we have everything but our 3rd.

Assuming somehow we find the room to extend miller, laf and chytil. We have a few option roster spots, but those can easily be plugged in, and give guys like cuylle and othmann shots.

Drury is also 2/2 on getting the maximum value on deadlines.
I do think Drury did well as far as value but we did give up quite a few draft picks the last 2 years. I'm all for it if it means a deep playoff run but we just can't do this year after year. Last year we lost a 1st and a 2nd plus Morgan Barron for Copp, 4th for Vatrano, and a 4th for Motte. This year we lost a 1st and 4th for Tarasenko and Mikkola, and either next year's 1st or 2nd for Kane, plus a 3rd for retention. I thought they were all good value trades but that's a lot of assets to give up for rentals every year. That's why I would like to see us sign 1 of Tara/Kane and 1 of Motte/Mikkola.

Id love to sign one of tara/kane too, but not at the price of losing one of the kids. Same with motte/mikkola.
We're at this point where the kids need the full opportunity.
We signed trocheck to this 7 year deal (great aav), but it blocked chytil from 2c, even though some of us were saying let the kids be the second line after the playoffs.

We're in this fantastic position where we have kids who could be the foundation for a second window. At some point we need to let them prove it.

I love people looking ahead to the second window when the first one just started and we have 1 Cup since 1940. The priority should be winning the first one in the next 3 years. Deal with the "second window" if we are fortunate enough to even get to that.

The only team that matches us on paper in the league is Boston, and it's only due to an outlier Linsanity-like run from an otherwise pedestrian goalie in Ullmark
On paper outside of BOS, I like TML, TBL, VGK, and even NJD as comps to us. CAR too injured.

Would put TML, TBL and VGK as ahead of us (prob not by much though and not enough to make them big favorites). NJD can easily beat us if we aren't coached right.

Exactly. You have to win the first one before you start talking about multiple windows and dynasties.

I don't think any of the kids are going anywhere and I still think we can sign 1 of Tarasenko/Kane. It depends on a lot of factors but I think it can get done. I'm not worried about the kids getting an opportunity. They are getting their minutes and are starting to get PP time as well. I fully understand the Trocheck signing and applaud it. It has not hindered Chytil at all.

One of the upsides of the Trocheck signing that hasn't even really shown itself either yet is that the guy used to be used way more often on the PK. He's the best face-off guy on the team, it's an asset shorthanded. If Goodrow becomes a cap casualty this offseason to squeeze someone in then that role will be filled internally by Trocheck. Very fortunate to have Zibanejad, Chytil and Trocheck down the middle for years to come

We are 41-19-10 (92 points). Last year after 70 games, we were 44-20-6 (94 points). We went on to win 7 of our next 8 before losing 3 of our last 4. We'll need to go 9-3 to match last year's point total.

I'm going to hop back into the Kreider convo here.

He's shooting a career low 10ish% on the PP this year. This is after he was at a staggering nearly 40% last year. His ixG on the PP is already the 2nd highest its been in his career (last year was #1) and he still has time to pass that.

Bad luck on the PP is literally the only thing thats going to keep him from being a 40+ goal scorer this year. Hes been the same exact guy that he was on the PP last year the only difference is that the puck hasn't gone in for him. He wasn't going to score 26 PPG's again but theres no reason why he shouldn't have a total in the low-mid teens right now.

These things tend to flip though. Could easily see this turning on its head in the spring.

He really did have a fantastic season last year. Vatrano was truly a war crime.

This and this. They've had plenty of opportunity. Neither of them grabbed the brass ring and seized a top 6 spot despite given multiple chances. As the GM, Drury's job is to win the Stanley Cup. He's doing his job by giving the team the best chance to do it after acquiring Tarasenko and Mikkola and having Patrick Kane fall out of the blue sky for almost nothing. He wouldn't have made the trades if he believed that the team was good as is.

It's not that Gorton's regime scouted badly. Lafreniere and Kakko were consensus picks in their draft slots. It's partly that patented Rangers luck but mostly bad player development that landed the team in the situation they are in now. David Quinn should go down in history as one of this organization's biggest pariahs. Kakko and Lafreniere needed steady and experienced hands behind the bench that nurtured their strengths. He told both of them to go out there and play like 3rd line grinders and be responsible players and made them grip their sticks so tight to the point that they were petrified of making mistakes for fear of being stapled to the bench. Yeah, you can make the case that neither of them were really talented (I buy it for Lafreniere but absolutely do not for Kakko. He looked like the second coming of Marian Hossa the World Championship tournament before his draft absolutely dunking on NHL players and making them look like fools), but Quinn shattered whatever confidence either of them had their first year in the league. Then you stumble ass backwards into Panarin and try to rebuild on the fly to the point that neither would ever have a significant role to play, and before you know it, both are buried.

There's going to be some really interesting conversations and decisions that are going to have to be made this summer and next. Lafreniere just wasn't that good to begin with and Kakko is a headcase. Honestly, I'm ready to trade both at the draft for 2023 1st's. Go 2011 Philly on both their asses like when they traded both Mike Richards and Jeff Carter in the same offseason. The Panarin/Trouba/Kreider window is open now and for the next two years (I think Kane signs back here cheap too). Draft well this year and next and you have those 2023 1st's ready to make the team as soon as the Rangers need to retool summer of 2025.
Just a note on Gorton and his regime pertaining to the scouting of Lafrenier. Gorton admitted in an interview that the organization was caught of guard because they did not believe they would be drafting 1OA. So there were no interviews or deep level scouting on Alexis before the lottery win.

I know they're a good team.. key word team. They do have some top high end talent. I just dont fear them

I'd honestly rather play Boston than Tampa.

I suppose I'd rather the Rangers *lose* to Boston than Tampa, for the mental aspect of it.

I dont think its out of the realm to say that kakko could hit 30 goals more than twice in his career with more than 15 minutes of ice time per game. Ck at 24 went from 15ish to 17ish and his production jumped.
Kakko is sitting in the 15 minutes per game range. Give him an extra 2 minutes per game and i'd imagine his production climbs as well.
Makes sense. Those extra two mins are probably PP minutes as well.

Kreider had 18 minutes of time last season, and he's got 18 minutes again this year.

3 extra minutes a game equals basically a full 4 extra games of ice time, even at even strength thats a significant amount of production.
