if Rangers can find a top 6 center and have to move Strome, a Wild fan I'm talking to mentioned Foligno as an option (3 more years signed 3.2M per year), That's kind of a talent we should be looking for. Thought it was an interesting idea.

Hard disagree. Pay people up front and for every Nathan MacKinnon, you get a Brady Skeji.

Fox, I'll pay. Kakko not so sure.
I think you're vastly underestimating Kakko. He's improved every year, he focused on defense because quinn made it clear that was how he'd get time. He made it clear he's focusing on his shot, I'd almost pay him now, since he can sign an extension July 1. Guys who can skate through 2-3 players on the boards are monsters.

I suggested Foligno a little while back but I think he just signed his extension, not sure they’d be looking to trade him.

If downside/risk is having to trade away a slightly overpaid player for a first round pick, I’ll definitely make that trade every time.
It’s basically the same type of deal we’re going to get back for Buch. I’m guessing the return for him will be a 1st and a middle/ bottom six player or prospect. I don’t think 1-1 your getting a Lundell or Krebs straight up for Buch. Hope I’m wrong but team really dont trade center prospects with top 6 upside for wingers.
Maybe we could get a prospect like Pinto from the sens for him. They know they are still going to suck, so I don’t see them wanting to move a 1st rd pick for a while

His opinion was they need an upgrade at center and they dont want to go big game hunting Eichel (well alot of their fans dont). He would be a good target if we could get

I think its more the leadership of ROR that makes him a great target along with his shut down play for me.
Yea, him and Cirelli certainly both play that shut down style. I like the idea of ROR at 2 years because you can keep Chytil as 3c and eventually over the 2 year period switch Chytil and ROR. Problem is any deal for Cirelli or ROR likely involves Chytil

Kakko accepting a long term extension right now would be the exact opposite of him investing in himself

Lindros was great until he got concussed again and basically cost nothing to get in a non cap league

How was that a shit acquisition?

He was a shell of his former self.

Was not nearly the player he was prior to being damaged goods.

Had one decent season and shit the bed the other 1.5 seasons before the damage resurfaced as everyone with more than one brain cell knew was going to happen.

Regardless of what we gave up, it was a shit acquisition for a damaged player.

This is eerily similar in that we are looking at another KNOWN damaged player, but in this case the package being discussed is actually GOOD prospects going the other way.

I'd gladly give up

Buchnevich, Lundkvist, Robertson and a 1st in 21 for Barkov.

I wouldn't give up have that for Eichel right now. And that's no indictment on his talent, its just not worth the risk to be adding a damaged player and figuring in the other costs to fit him beyond this season and hoping he doesnt miss 30+% of future games.

Hard pass.

O'Reilly is gonna cost a huge haul. Checks off a beauty box and a grizzled vet box.

For the younger crowd, Hlavac's number dont look special, but that Czechmates line with Nedved and Dvorak was exactly what you wanted out of a 2nd line. Those dudes gel'ed.

That was the gist of what we lost in the Lindros trade.
We gained the FLY line though which had its own window of greatness too before Lindros took one to the noggin' and they were a first line.

We also had to go out and get Tom Poti because we lost a blossoming offensive defenseman

Barkov has a NMC - he's the exact TYPE of player you'd want to get - a younger ROR. But with just 2 years left in his contract, unless you can get a sweet extension, i'm not sure he's worth all those assets for 2 years. That's a move you make when chasing the cup, not when you are rebuilding. Barkov is getting north of $8M. We should first see what Zib is re-signing for.

Yeah Barkov is gonna be WAY north of 8. He’s a 10+ guy at least.

Barkov is the guy tjat you take the risk on.

Healthy, better 200 foot player than JE.

The Rangers would have no issues signing him beyond this contract as Mika is a goner whether its JE or Barkov

The Rangers in 2 years are going to be a preferred destination based on the youth beginning prime years. Barkov would be wise to resign.

With every penny JE is getting.

Every penny

I like him, but the cost for Cirelli would be the same. They are both cup winners and proven playoff performers. Both play the same selke style lock down D. I just think Cirelli being younger and cheaper and signed for longer is the way to go. In fact Cirelli might even have more playoff experience even though he is younger.
They would both cost premium assets. Both teams would want the same guys back in a trade most likely. Given the choice it’s a no brainer for Cirelli for me. Sign a Vet LD or a 3rd or 4th liner if we need more experience. But both guys have been through the trials and tribulations of the playoffs and both guys have reached the promised land at the end of the road
