if/when Panthers waive Schemitsch, i would encourage Gorts to claim him,
young (not yet 23) RHD w size, obvi more NHL ready than Keane; from little i know, like him better than Raddysh

can always try to waive him down later
Thomas Schemitsch at eliteprospects.com
"Schemitsch plays a good offensive game, but is a solid two way defenseman, not purely offensive. He has great size and skates well. He is very smart, too"

I can’t help but to be intrigued by JHS who could be on waivers soon. I am rarely a big fan of the players with questionable hockey sense (like Names), but that kid got so good wheels, the hands are there, and he isn’t ‘dumb’ on the ice. Think he has had a problem fitting in on the Island, and they haven’t developed him well either.

Would much rather have him than Strome/Names...

Unless Howden has a monster finish Lias has definitely earned 3C. I have no problem with Howden playing the entire year at 4C or in the A. If Chytil doesn't work out we at least have Strome as a backup and then slide Chytil to wing.

If he can't make Florida over the immortal trio of MacKenzie Weegar, Ian McCoshen, or Josh Brown for their 6/7/8 spots, I don't want him to begin with.

Schemitsch just 'loaned' to AHL

my bad, seems he was waived yesterday, and must've cleared

Chytil and Kreider have been joined at the hip this preseason in practice and game(s) so the smart money bet for 2C should be on Chytil.

Otherwise DQ's comment should mean that one of Howden or Andersson will be 3C while the other (likely Lias) probably gets shifted to a wing. The deeper implication is that Kravtsov is likely to be Hartford bound in this scenario.

Panarin - Zibanejad - Buchnevich
Kreider - Chytil - Kakko
Andersson - Howden - Strome
Namestnikov - McKegg (Nieves) - Fast

Lias 3C, Howden AHL, Lemieux 3rd line

That's the way I would go.

Panarin-Zibanejad-Buch
Kreider-Chytil-Kakko
Lemieux-Andersson-Strome
Namestnikov-Nieves-Fast
McKegg

Howden and Kravtsov to the AHL

I'd also sign Haley to a NHL deal and send him to Hartford

Switch Lemmy and Names, McKegg and Nieves, and I'm on board. I want a guy from line 2-4 that can win faceoffs.

Di Giuseppe-Howden-Kravtsov could get some AHL traction going quite early on.

trading Howden would be dumb, if Lias(McKegg/Boo) earns his spot, no reason not to just demote him and let him play top 6 , all situations for Knoblauch for a few months
Sure, let’s demote him. That should help his development AND his trade value. There’s no sense in stockpiling more bottom-six to middle-six prospects than we’ll ever have enough slots to play. If one is leapfrogged, convert to futures and help our cap situation in the meantime.

Howden is not starting the season in Hartford. That is crazy.

he's only 21, i don't see it impacting his dev or value,
idea would be, like Lias last year, he plays big minutes, all situations, while in the A

Del Zotto played 80 NHL games at 19, split the next year between NHL<>AHL
JT Miller split his age 19, 20 and 21 seasons

I think you guys way over-dramatize idea of a 21 year old spending a few months in the A
we just see things differently

Del Zotto and Miller were sent down because of off ice stuff and maturity issues.

Howden and Anderson are making the team imo, I dont think sending them back to Hartford is what they need at this point. Nieves and Gregory Mckeggory really have no chance. We have one extra forward that when you do the lines looks to be Fast or Namestnicov. The one wild card I'm worried about is Smith, I'm worried he takes Hajek's or Lindgrens spot on the roster because it's the easy thing to do to fit him on the roster.

DZ didn’t start his sophomore season in the A though.

It may be a trial by fire, but if we're using young players in the bottom 6 of the lineup we have to try to break them into either the first 2 PP units or first 3 PK duos.

Playing 7 minutes isn't good for any type of prospect, defensive forward or otherwise.

So the question for guys like Andersson and Howden is- are they ready for full time PK responsibilities? Howden did some last year but he was realistically the 7th option until Hayes and Zucc were dealt.

It would also be nice if we could take some of that burden off of Zibanejad.

Namestnikov-Fast
Howden-Strome
Andersson-McKegg/Lemieux

Easiest decision is Kravtsov to the ahl. But he may not have signed his contract without an understanding that he’d start in the nhl so we’ll never know if that’s in place.

But we’re being naive in thinking Quinn would put Howden in Hartford before andersson. Not happening.

I don't know how anyone has Lias ahead of Howden or to a further extent, Chytil.

Howden had a goal and assist in their 4-2 loss in NJ. In this his only game so far. Howden doesn't need a monster finish. He is already ahead of Lias. Tomorrow will likely be icing on the cake playing between Kravtsov and Kakko.

I don't get the Lias love. Howden and Chytil have a huge advantage over him.

He might have one of those clauses that if he doesn't make the team, he has the option to go back to Russia.

I personally feel Kravtsov should make this team but it certainly won’t hurt him to play a few months in the A to cook a bit.

But Only for a short time. Gorton has to move one of 90 16 or 17 quickly.

Why are we moving Fast? Guy is one of the most valuable players on the team. Does a little bit of everything, can play anywhere in the lineup without looking out of place, isn't expensive.... I don't get it. You're not replacing him with a rookie or with a McKegg.
