I like Fast but he is replaceable with incoming prospects. There is no need to waste cap space on a bottom six player who could be replaced by an entry level contracted player down the road. Guys like Barron, Gettinger, Hendrickson etc are gonna need spots on this team down the road, there is no need of spending cap tp keep fast

Fast was crap last year. He was supposedly injured and couldn’t practice. But if he doesn’t play well this year he will neither get traded at the deadline nor get a raise — because there will be little to no demand for him on the market.

He must perform and produce on the ice.
I thought we were of like minds, but lately we don't agree on much. No one hustles more each and every shift than Fast. He has won the Player's Player Award the last four years running,... voted on by his teammates. He will never be a top six guy, but no one will bust his butt more for this team. He has always been very responsible. Until someone out performs him, he will have a spot on this team.

I sent you a PM ;)

Actually I agree for sure with this, and I love Fast.

You don’t have to go back long to get to a point where we can find stretches where Fast on the ice played well in a top 6 role. And if you take into account what we paid for him — his performance was spectacular. Hands down.

But my point is just, the reality for someone like Fast is cruel. He won’t get paid, nor will there be a demand for him, based on what he did 2-4 years ago. He was injured last year; and did not perform up to standard. To get paid and have a demand for him on the market — he must perform this year. And my best guess is that he will. But you never know.

I see what you are saying. But honestly, what bottom 6 player is ever in demand and of some value in a trade return? And if there are a few exceptions to this,... I'm sure Fast would be on that list.

Did you get my PM?

Are we sure about Lias and Howden? We had the same scenario with Skjei/Vegas in regards to the Vegas expansion being after his second pro season was completed, and he didn't have to be protected (likely because his season didn't technically end until July 1st?).

I wonder if Lias' SHL/etc. games would count towards a "pro season." Maybe so, as the CBA defines pro games as:

If not, then he only has one "pro season" as he only played a combined 32 AHL/NHL games in 17/18.

But Howden played only one pro season by my count (the 18/19 season with NYR) as he only played 5 games with the Syracuse Crunch.

NHL pls

EDIT: COUNTING IS HARD IN THE MORNING, OKAY?

I wonder if this team will hold off on a captaincy, the way Trouba has been ramping it up in practice I'm not sure if he might be the right guy going forward. I still like Zibanajad but to me a guy with a little more of a physical nature doesnt hurt when you are trying to bring people into the game.

Expansion draft is in 2021. Lias and Howden played for the Rangers since 2018. That's 3 years.

Skjei in 2017 only had 2 years

You're right. For some reason I was thinking it was next season lol. Should probably wake up before I type these things out.

Or does that speak to how much I want it to happen sooner rather than later? Hmmmmm...

Fast is so ridiculously well-perceived within the Rangers organization that I wouldn’t doubt he ends up in a comfortable position somewhere in the league after he retires. While he may not be paid to his own maximum benefit today, I can see him doing well for himself down the line due to his reputation.

Well this doesn’t help tony at all but the Pens just resigned 23 year old dman Marcus Pettersson to an 875k one year deal. Kid played 84 regular season games (with his mouth shut and causing no maturity issues)

25 pts (good for 3rd among rookie d)
23 assists (good for 2nd among rookie d)
+17 (good for 3rd among rookie D)

38th overall pick in 2014

Tony’s ppg numbers are higher of course but any defensive short comings or maturity issues that cost him games plays certainly evens that out.

He’s not going to get a lot more than a guy like this. Time to get to camp kid you’re not helping yourself

I didn't know this thanks for posting. $1M should be more than enough, Tony needs to lay off

Capfriendly has a tool. It seems we will be losing a good D prospect if we can’t strike a deal with them.

Hajek. Lindgren. The Rangers could protect Hajek. So many moving parts on D. The rest of the top D prospects are exempt.

Trouba will be protected. NMC. Skjei is signed. Hajek is eligible. We don't know anything about him. Tony is also eligible. Will he be on the team? His situation is ridiculous. The Rangers have so many kids. They want to play their kids. Staal will probably be here for the next two seasons. Expiring NMC. Where are the Rangers finding room to add that player to expose? Who knows what the Rangers D will look like after the 20-21 season. They need to expose one D. If Skjei is still here and he continues his inconsistent play, maybe the Rangers expose the final three years of his contract at $5.25M.

The Rangers have Trouba, Skjei and Staal. They want to play their young guys. More young guys may be arriving next summer with Miller and Lundkvist. Where is the room for signed D for 21-22 with the 40/70 splits? The Rangers have Smith signed for this and next season.

The Rangers issue is exposing a D with 70/40.

Nieves needs to play 70 games combined in the next 2 seasons or 40 games in 20-21. Every team needs to expose 2 forwards with those numbers. Looking at the Rangers depth at center, they don’t have room for him.

It shouldn’t be difficult for him to play 70 games over the best two years. He has played wing as well

From the tool on capfriendly, it seems like we are likely to lose one of Hajek, Lindgren, ADA or Skjei. Trouba has a NMC and will be protected.

Good to hear that he’s more confident. I think lack of confidence was really holding him back last year. He has more to learn skill wise and reading the game wise but I think confidence was one of his biggest hurdles. Being physically stronger and being able to communicate more easily with teammates and coaches will go a long way with that also.

Nieves played wing for almost two full seasons at Michigan. Sophomore season they moved him there to get him going and he stuck there Junior year. He moved back to C Senior year. IIRC.
