Not a lot of meat behind that bit on Panarin, kind of irresponsible to put that out there without much substance.

Because now it will go through the NYR fanbase, get distorted along the way, and become 'fact' by April at the risk of really poisoning the well here which could be disastrous.

Only if people are naive enough to believe everything this hack reports.

Why are we going to mortgage the future? Can't this team make some moves to get better and not trade a 1st or a top prospect? Just getting a Lehkonen and getting Kakko back will make this team much better and balance out the lineup. They owe it to themselves and the fans to do something. It doesn't have to be the trade of the century.
Yeah, I agree. The suggestions appear to be:
A) trade Nils/Robertson/Jones/Othmann for a similarly aged and skilled center
B) trade spare parts for expiring contracts that can help this year in the playoffs.
I don’t see anyone advocating moving players mentioned in A for expiring contracts.
I suppose there is some disagreement on which players constitute the “spare parts”. But I don’t think anyone - or at least not a substantial number - wants to “mortgage the future”, so to speak.

It's so over for Gallantheads.

In all seriousness I don't know what to think, Panarin might not be totally enamored with Gallant but his problems seem to have to do with himself rather than who the coach is. He played under Tortorella, and became a much better overall player. doesn't get much more restrictive than that.
Who did he play with in Columbus? Atkinson right? Would love a player like that

I don’t buy this “it’s the system” BS.

Panarin was great under caveman torts. Plenty of guys have had big offensive seasons under GG in the past.
The system does look a lot less creative. Player movement in transition and the o-zone is the antithesis on how to create chances/space.

I have no clue what is going on but Panarin has looked pedestrian with Gallant, from day 1. There's something off here. It's nearly the same exact system as Quinn ran, nearly the same exact linemates and they're doing the same exact things. Teams have adjusted since that run pre-covid. Stagnating on the perimeter boards is not going to work. The team needs to attack.

Being one of the worst forechecking/pressuring teams doesn't help. Allowing most teams to come out of their zone freely/easily doesn't help. Conceding the neutral zone and backing up to our dots doesn't help.

We need a reboot

Besides that take by Brooksie appearing pretty boneless at the moment, is there even a point of discussing the idea of moving Panarin?

His contract has a full NMC, is heavily structured with signing bonuses, and obviously is the second most expensive deal in hockey. What team and owner has the assets/space for him, money to pay him, and is a destination where he’d accept a trade? It doesn’t seem realistic for the next couple of years

I'd hail Gallant the Taxi long before I considered trading one of our only players not allergic to producing. We need more skill, not less. We have enough vanilla boring ass dump and chase "but playing the right way" players, even our 1st & 2nd overall picks haver become that. I don't see what other people are seeing I guess. I see a slow team that lugs around the ice and can't produce offence. We need speed, flash, shoot first, all out offensive players. We don't need more grinders.

Does Pat Verbeek want Libor Hajek? Verbeek was part of TB's front office when they had Hajek. The Ducks don't really have many young D in their organization. They could trade Lindholm and maybe Manson. Both them will be unrestricted this summer. Verbeek doesn't want to give Lindholm a long-term contract. Fowler has a long-term contract. Shattenkirk has another season remaining. Verbeek claimed Sustr off of waivers from TB for more depth on D.

I'd entertain Panarin for Matthews when AM doesn't re-sign in Toronto going into his last year :sarcasm:

There's just something that tells me Matthews will be a New York Ranger one day

Gallant has said, on numerous occasions at different points in the season, that he wants guys to play the way they are comfortable with the puck. His only ask is that they play the system without it. Now, his system without it is pretty similar to Quinn in the D zone. They are passive. Protect the middle and yield the outside. I was never a fan of that, but it works to mitigate chances against. Problem is its hard to get the puck back when the other team is in your end.

This team would be a harder forechecking team if they had the speed and ability to do it. People that think Gallant wants them to play back because he likes it didn't watch his team in Vegas. They were high pressure teams all the time. You need the guys for it though. Again, beating it to death, Lehkonen would help. A Jarnkrok. Dvorak. Sanford. Roslovic. Copp. Pipedreams are Gourde and Karlsson.

There is a reason this team looks completely different when the top and bottom line are on the ice and when the middle 6 are on this ice. The top and bottom attack. The other 2 lines, not so much.

His defensive system is man to man where quinn's was zone.
Thats a massive change, but it works where we have strong skating defensemen.

Panarin left a whole bunch of money on the table to come here because he wanted to be the shining star, so I have a hard time believing he's just pouting because he doesn't want to dump the puck in once in a while.

I think he may be a little resistant, and Strome enables that a bit, but that's typical player coach friction. You think Gaborik always liked playing for Torts? This isn't a Jagr situation where he should be coaching the team.
Gaborik despised playing for Torts, that's why he agreed to be traded to Columbus so he could get away from him.

panarin shud realize that its a lot easier to go on the attack when ur team isnt defending 5 on 3 in the defensive zone with him and strome cheating for offense.

Man to man and zone refer mostly to the way switching is handled during movement. The actual way they play is to protect the middle and yield the outside trusting Igor to make those saves all night. If you think this team isn't a passive defender, then watch Calgary, Minnesota, Vegas, Pittsburgh, Carolina, Florida, Tampa, etc. more. Those teams pressure a lot more. In the offensive zone and neutral zone yes which the Ranger need more of for sure, but also the defensive zone and those teams are all a mix of man to man and zone.
