Just how bad is MS defensively? He has had some pretty decent plus/minus in his career.
If you go by expected goals against, he might be the current worst defensive forward in the league. The Jets are basically shorthanded in their own zone when he's on the ice, and I wouldn't say that's atypical of Scheifele's career. Opponents get a crazy amount of chances with him on the ice.

His goal-based metrics are good, that's true, but you have to keep on mind that Connor Hellebuyck was probably the best goalie in the league before Igor showed up. Granted, you could make the argument that we do have Igor, but I think one of the points of this deadline for us is to make Igor do less work.

Scheifele is a great offensive center but we already have two great offensive centers.

I'm with you - his raw numbers show a player who is having a bad year - but throughout his career has not been some a liability on defense - I'm also of the belief that it's difficult for a PPG player to be a "liability."

The few articles I've seen are all advanced stats/metrics - which personally, I think can be overblown at times - but they paint a bleak picture as far as I think high danger chances against. Defense to me, from forwards - is also probably the easiest change/adjustment to make - so if I'm NYR, i'm using it as a bargaining chip to drive down his price and making the bet that a new coach/system/team and playoff will change it. (There's people arguing this year that Huburdeau in Florida is having a bad year defensively)

We're talking about a player who any time in the last few years, would never have been available - it's creating a near picture perfect buy low scenario in my eyes.

The team has just about 6 mill to plug their 2C hole - whether that be Strome or someone cheaper, (Gourde.. etc) - they're all in the same ball park - and no one else is going to be close to the offensive output that Scheif will. If you go Scheif - you then can focus on cheap energy/defense first players for your bottom-6 - which is where you usually can find the best bargains.

If they go Gourde for example - you're paying a similar cap hit - and then you NEED Laf/Kakko or someone else to step up offensively. If you go MS - you have an elite offense - and can find your defensive forward plugs for cheap - much easier than cheap offense.

I feel like the Rangers are getting a little screwed with the market getting skewed the last few days.

It may have been wise for Drury to push things out to deadline when he had more leverage but that approach may have backfired.

- Lehkonen (who is my personal #1 target for many reasons) has been tearing it up lately, 6G, 2A in his last 6 games - the cost likely on the rise. Aaaaand now he’s injured…

- Any deal with the Canucks seems to be at least on hold, since they have gone 21-8-5 under Boudreau and are only 3 points from the cutoff with a game in hand. Seems like JT will stay put, but will they be sellers? Rent their own players? Kings are dropping like flies…

- If there was any interest in a more longterm wildcard deal landing Chychrun, that will probably be tabled now until the draft due to his injury. Haven’t heard the severity of it yet but if you are making a deal you are looking to improve the team now.

- Hertl seems to be staying, if there was any pipe dream of that happening.

- Georgiev has played like garbage and has absolutely blown any chance of a team wanting to add him.

- What was already a gamble trading for Kravstov has now become a little cloudier due to the war in Ukraine

Lehkonen is out tonight. Do not remember him being hurt or dealing with something.

It's officially holding players out season.

Lebrun said this morning that he thinks the price for Lehkonen is a first round pick, so while I want him I’m not holding my breath

Also the fact that Gorton is running Montreal doesn’t help our chances

Get Lehkonen.

Get a CHEAP bottom pair dman that can actually be reliable.

Get Kakko back.

That's it. Don't do anything stupid Drury. Brooks nailed it, keep the trade chips for the summer and go for a youngish center, don't resign Strome.
That’s all I’d do as well. Save assets for the draft to try and land a center or some other piece you can add to the core

If it was guaranteed he would be extended here I might be ok with that.

With Othmann on the way, Blais and Kakko returning, adding Lehkonen would really bolster the bottom 6/9

I also really think it’s important to get another Finn on this team for KK.

I think you look to keep Rooney and run a 4th line next season of Reaves - Rooney - Brodzinski with Hunt as the 13th forward. Keep McKegg around as 14th forward.

Try to acquire Lehkonen and possibly move Chytil. Third line of Lehkonen - Goodrow - XXXX.

Or may be give Barron a shot at 3C and have a 3rd line of Lehkonen - Barron - Goodrow.

Or if the cap situation would work keeping Chytil while either resigning Strome or an equivalent 2C. Lehkonen - Goodrow - Chytil.

I think that would be a very solid bottom 6 of a contender.
Reaves should not play all 82 games next season. The Rangers can pick their spots with them. Some of these teams have no tough guys for Reaves to fight. Reaves doesn't fight much more anyway. Reaves didn’t play last night. The Stars don't have any tough guys.

This year is has been arguably the worst defensive forward in the league, but that hasn’t been his career story.

no reason to play him Tuesday, dress him Thursday since the Islanders have a bunch of slow clowns as well.

Scheifele has been awful defensively, but he is extremely skilled and can do things with the puck, especially in terms of the transition game that Strome and even Zibanejad don't really do. Plus his contract is pretty friendly. I've gone back and forth on him but I wouldn't be upset if we acquired him. I'm just not sure he will even be available.

Lucky the Rangers have a shit ton of assets to get the things they want. They just need to spend them on the right players. Players that will be part of the team past next season.

Rangers need a 2C, 3C and another LD. A RW depending on what happens with Kakko. Sounds like a lot but we have the wherewithal and pieces to make that happen.

LeBrun is a Habs fan and a shill. He was the mouth piece for Chairot for a 1st months ago. He's sucking the turds out of Molson's ass and spitting it back out on air.

Thoughts on Rakell?

Rakell is a very frustrating player. Streaky as hell, and tends to float out there. People here who bash Strome, they will have a field day with Rakell. Apparently he is injured and is day to day, Probably more precaution, imo.
