I think you look to keep Rooney and run a 4th line next season of Reaves - Rooney - Brodzinski with Hunt as the 13th forward. Keep McKegg around as 14th forward.

Try to acquire Lehkonen and possibly move Chytil. Third line of Lehkonen - Goodrow - XXXX.

Or may be give Barron a shot at 3C and have a 3rd line of Lehkonen - Barron - Goodrow.

Or if the cap situation would work keeping Chytil while either resigning Strome or an equivalent 2C. Lehkonen - Goodrow - Chytil.

I think that would be a very solid bottom 6 of a contender.
There's no reason for Hunt to sit so Reaves can stay in the lineup. Hunt is the superior player.

The Rangers are going to need to find a way to diversify the forward corps, especially up the middle. On the whole, they're not great skaters. Two good prospects in Othmann and Cuylle aren't great skaters either.

The team is too slow to put pressure on the opposing defenseman when the puck is dumped into the offensive zone. Easy pick up and out for most teams that can move the puck well and support each other well. It's why the Rangers struggle against teams like Carolina, Vegas, Minnesota, St. Louis, and Pittsburgh. Good five man units that can move the puck well and have all five skaters supporting each other to move the puck up ice. Florida is very good at this too but the Rangers got two wins against them mostly due to bad goaltending.

The Rangers have pound for pound some of the best talent in the league. Panarin and Fox are two of the smartest players in the league. Zibanejad is one of the most athletic and has an office set up at the top of the left circle where he'll score 30 or 35 per year with at least half coming on the power play from that spot. Kreider having a career year and finally breaking out at 30. At least his style should age well throughout his contract as long as he doesn't take too many beatings. Keep him.

Strome is talented but dumb. The Rangers shouldnt bring him back. Kakko has been disappointing but should carve out a nice career as a Jere Lehtinen type. Lafreniere looks like he's finally putting it together. He's looked fine since the All Star break. Miller is starting to realize his potential. He's getting better and better each game.

Beyond that, and of course including the guy in goal that should win the Hart trophy, there's your core. Everyone else is expendable and not even worth noting. The Rangers better hope and pray Berard, Cuylle, and Othmann are real contributors and fast.

Self rent Strome and bring in Copp as your two way 2C in UFA. Go bargain bin hunting for a 4C. Goodrow is the 3C as it appears this coach isn't going to give Barron a chance.

Would Colorado trade a 6th for him to reunite him with his brother? He'd only be worth a 7th somewhere else.

I’d play Barron at 4C next year, no concerns there. If Rooney would re-sign I’d play him at wing on the 4th line.

I wonder what a guy like Tippett would cost from Florida.

You know if he's here, he'll be playing. There must always be at least one anomaly.

I don't think we can afford Rooney. Barron and/or Brodz will take his spot.

I'm guessing Lehkonen's price is absurd because I would have made him a Ranger already.

IF/When the team skates like they did last night, we look decent. +Kakko +Lehkonen to the lineup makes a huge difference

IMO we can't have Lindgren in the top4 anymore. He's been getting bullied against all the big/heavy teams. This is a recipe for disaster in the playoffs. He has to take a penalty because he's being out muscled

Get me Chadchychrun

KAM Trouba
Chychrun Fox

Also adds a legitimate goal scoring threat

The thing is that what has Rooney done to warrant a significant raise? On the whole he's playing at a 4th line level with 4th line offensive production and is a replacement level player some nights. 2 years, $2 million total should get it done for him.

We're up against the cap. $2M is 1.2M more than Brodz. I still think he gets a Nemeth type contract from a bad team

We're in penny pinching mode.

Good luck to that team. I wouldn't offer more than a million a year. The Rangers can look elsewhere.

if georgiev is playing on the 2nd line we are in a lot of trouble
Lol I think he means Gauthier who has been more or less a hologram this season.

I complained before the season that we never got a good look at him- well now we’ve gotten almost too much of one. He’d never be playing if this was a complete roster.

I think he's finally starting to use his size. The scoring chances have dropped but he's starting to bulldoze his way to the puck

Hunt is better than Rooney, Reaves, and Brodzinski. Some nights he's even better than Goodrow. There is absolutely no reason for him to sit.

I think it got wiped out in the migration but I'll go on about him again. To me, unless there's an opportunity to get a guy like Horvat, the guy to add before the deadline is Andrew Copp. He plays all 3 positions up front, has the skill to play with elite wingers, kills penalties, has historically been good on draws, and I think would give us a lot of options up and down the lineup. I think he'd be a good fit between Panarin and Kakko, not that I think Gallant has the sense to take Strome off that line.

I'd cap my offer at a 2nd and a body/prospect but to me he makes the most sense.

Chytil can be part of the 3rd line solution. If he plays like he has recently since his scratch, you need someone to roll with him and Goodrow.

That line needs a playmaker type. Marcus Johansson could be one of those type of players. Would be on the cheap end too, so you won't be giving up a lot to get him. Just legit NHL depth.
