Regardless of the outcome of this year's run, the more and more I think about it, the more I think backing up a Brinks truck full of money into Patrice Bergeron's driveway at the start of free agency is the way to go.

He fills the leadership void. He's a center. He wins faceoffs. He just wins. The team is ahead of schedule by a year. Expectations are going to be very high. The impression he would have on the young guys would be immense.
By a brinks truck you mean an offer in the 3-4m range?
Because any big offer means moving one of laf/kakko and/or KAM and that would absolutely be the definition of a terrible move.

Panarin has another season to prove this was injury related.

If we had a Kucherov, we're winning cups. Panarin can be that guy. For $11.6M he HAS TO BE that guy.
Seems like everytime we get to this position the guy we need the most, the high paid scorer, never seems to show up. Probably why I have a problem with paying players so much money. The one we have never seems to be around when we need them most. If Panarin was the player we need him to be, we might already be talking about SCF Game 1.

I like this idea in theory but I dont see it happening. If they cant get Copp under contract for something reasonable (Im not giving him a penny more than Danaut, especially with Chytil showing promise), I think Stastny is an option. @Machinehead has mentioned him before, but it seems like a good fit.

Coached by Gallant in Vegas, can play solid defense, win faceoffs, can play up and down the lineup. The Athletic reported he is looking for a place to win now that his career is winding down. a 2 year deal for less than what Copp would get is a pretty good bridge for us to see what Chytil can do with more responsibility next year.

We haven't lost yet. That's all a conversation for if/when NYR are eliminated.

I still think this is going 7.

Without Panarin playing to his capabilities, it becomes A LOT harder.

Picture what Tampa would be going through if they had this Panarin instead of Kucherov. Kucherov is nearly their entire offense. He is carrying them.

Gallant not giving the kid line more time is pretty baffling. Im a fan of his but its a very legitimate grip, especially when Panarin/Strome/Copp/Goodrow have all been injured/ineffective to varying degrees. I guess Gallant wants to lean on his top guys like he has all year? Same thing with K'Andre, who has played a ton at ES to be fair. Why in hell is Trouba still playing point on PP2? This playoffs alone, 2 shorthanded goals and a momentum killing penalty on a 4 min powerplay were a direct result of him being unable to handle the puck.

KAM/Laf/Chytil/Kakko need to be given bigger roles from Day 1 next year. The training wheels are very clearly off.
Seems like there's a lack of trust unless they're paired with a veteran even if the veteran isn't good or playing well. Still odd to me cause none of them are rookies and they have shown progress in their development.

He also had a chance to have Jones with Schneider, who in the few games we saw them together, looked fine. He instead opted for Nemeth. And took forever to put Braun in there consistently.

The Kid Line played the vast majority of their minutes in the Carolina series against the Trocheck line.

In that matchup, the Hurricanes lost big in shots and the Rangers scored the only goal. Strangely, the Kid Line was on for 4 goals versus Carolina, with 2 coming against the Staal line in just 7 minutes, and 1 coming against the Kotkaniemi line is just 5 minutes. Carolina did not score a single goal with the entire Kid Line on the ice.

In this series, their most common opponents are the line of Hagel-Colton-Killorn, who they're dominating in shots. In limited time, the Kid Line are absolutely taking the Cirelli line behind the woodshed, and are breaking even against the Stamkos line. That Cirelli line has Kucherov on it. Tampa Bay has also not scored at even strength against the Kid Line.

So yeah, the Kid Line is shutting down Nikita Kucherov and hasn't given up a goal in at least 11 games. Bench them.

No Brinks truck, but I’d offer him an opportunity here. If he thinks we are a team with a significantly higher chance at a Cup than the majority of the NHL, and that’s his primary goal at the end of his career, then he needs to take less money. I don’t expect him to leave Boston if he doesn’t retire, and that’s not going to be something that can (or should) be swayed by money. I read something the other day that Boston might consider trading Pastrnak (Will Bruins trade Pastrnak? This report suggests it's a strong possibility), which would basically signal a rebuild. That seems unlikely, but if that happens I could see Bergeron playing elsewhere for his best chance at a Cup if he doesn’t want to retire.

I'd give him whatever we'd give Copp.
I believe that he's already said that he's only going to play for Boston next season. There might be a chance that changes if they actually decide to tear it down and rebuild, but I could also see him just retiring in that scenario. He's already a lock to be a Hall of Famer and has a Cup.

I mean Bergeron would be the best signing we could possibly make but it's not going to happen. Bergeron is either going to retire or he's going to go back to Boston. All the reporting around him has indicated this.

It would be amazing but it's not going to happen. I think he retires.

He is a perfect fit for what the Rangers need, its just highly unlikely. He seemed ready to retire after they lost to the Canes but i guess you never know,

I'm not convinced that we are going to be able to build a roster as good as Tampa's was the past two seasons.

For me, it's whether or not we have the best goalie in the world playing as the best goalie in the world that is what has the potential to put us 'above' and win a cup.

We're never going to be able to move Panarin, unless he wants to move. It's a lot of cap tied up in a guy who has been more of a PP specialist this postseason, I agree.

NYR need to think about what kind of players he needs to be with to not get bogged down against good checking at regular strength. I'm on team Panarin-Blackwell-Copp for next season for this reason. Blackwell can play top 6 at even strength, penalty kill, and not soak up a top PP spot. He can play center or wing up and down the lineup. Good teams fin defensive depth by incorporating players that are good compliments, but not line drivers throughout their top 9. Vatrano here this season, Kunitz and Dupuis were guys like that with Crosby for a long time. Christensen with Gaborik, Dubinsky with Jagr. Chemistry and balance matter.

It's just annoying that Panarin ended up the kind of guy who needed a specific type of line built around him like Gaborik.

Again, again and again and again people just image the NMC away.

WE. CANT. GET. RID. OF. THE. NMCs!

Stop trying to trade every NMC contract we have, the moment the player declines, acting as if the NMC is negligable.

Every couple of months, like a hive mind this reappears.

This was a sad read with my lunch.

I like Stasny for 2 years way more than I like Copp for 4-5 years. Plus Stasny's cap hit will be much lower.

Some will balk at Stastny because he's old. Old players have their advantages. One of his is that he goes away in two years.

If you sign Copp for five or so years, and Chytil breaks out, you lose Chytil and waste money. If we sign Stastny and Chytil keeps up his strong play, you just promote Chytil in a year. He'll be cheaper RFA than Copp is UFA.

Cooper creates a shut down line to take care of Mika.

Gallant you have the tools to stop Stamkos and Kucherov. Goodrow Motte Copp. Either make 1 line to shut them down or 1 of those 3 should be on the ice and in Kucherov's shadow smelling what deodorant he is wearing. Plain and simple.
