Rasmus Sandin is a D who I think would be a perfect partner for Schneider and also someone that compliments our LD with Lindgren and Miller well.

Geo’s rights
Nils Lundkvist
A 3rd in 2024

for

Rasmus Sandin

??

Why not just play Jones?

If we're trading for a LHD, IMO it will be Chychrun @ 50%. Has literally everything we look for in a defenseman.

I think he goes to NJ for something around the 2OA.
I will 100% laugh my ass off if jersey does that.

2nd OA will likely be slafkovsky.
Id love it if Slafkovsky goes out west, and don't want to see a line with him, hughes and holtz.

Based on what we’ve seen from the Rangers front office I think this is probably their thinking too.
I think kakko, laf and miller are priorities 1-3, copp is priority 4, chytil is probably 5 and motte is 6.

We do not want to be caught signing Copp to a deal, and then nailed by losing one of KAM, or Laf to an Offer sheet.

I just don’t think Lundkvist is the type of defenseman the Leafs are going to target. Lundkvist is attractive to a handful of teams who need to fill that offensive D void, and the Leafs aren’t one of them.

Sandin would be a good fit if we want to move a young defensive minded RHD like Schneider for him, but of course we’re not.

I don't understand because Nils is a defensive minded defenseman.

I love Jones and wouldn’t be against giving him a chance. But Sandin has more lbs on him and might be someone Gallant trusts more.

Not the biggest fan of Chychrun to be honest. I like the guy that can make that really heady pass.

I think the Chychrun ship is sailing. No need to give up big assets for a second pair defender. His appeal was a defender for THIS year's run, but that need has passed, and we haven't really needed him.

Miller and Fox is the #1 pair of the future here.

And we are absolutely flush with guys who are quality second and third pair types (or better) with Jones, Schneider, Robertson, and Nils. Not to mention, uh, we have Lindgren and Trouba too.

I would swap Chytil and Copp at this point.
Chytil has more upside than Copp. Copp is a finished product, and he's in the middle between a 2c (with panarin pushing him there) and 3c.

Chytil with the way he's playing, has a low 1c upside right now (with laf/kk pulling him up there).
Chytil needs to work on his draws and being a little more physical in the defensive zone, but if he does both, he's a low 1c.

Question for the board. An RFA is given an offer sheet from another team. His original team can just match and then trade him. Yes? Seems easier as long as the offer sheet is way over value for the player.

listen i love motte, but his game isnt going to get him some huge 2.5 million deal

pouliot could score, especially where we were playing him

stralman was a top 4 d man and we made the decision to pay boyle instead of him

boyle was a centerman who won a shit ton of draws and could score

so while i love motte and what he brings (i want him re-signed) he has been in a completely different situation to those 3
Pouliot scored at the same rate as a ranger as he had the three years prior and he got quadruple the AAV from Edmonton that he got from NYR

Boyle had 18 points that year and 3 points in 48 games the year before.

Stralman was a complete nobody until round three of the 2014 playoffs if you weren't into the (still very new) advanced stats.

I think you're also underrating how unique Motte is. He's gotta be one of the fastest, hardest workers in the league. And he's physical and great defensively (at ES and PK) to boot. He will absolutely get a lot of money from somebody, like a young team on the precipice of the playoffs (think Buffalo).

Not knocking Chytil but aside from these playoffs has he proven himself to be labeled a top two line C like some are around here? I'm not saying I want to trade him but am I in the minority in thinking he's best suited at wing? If so, how do folks think that will impact this offseason?

I know many disagree but after watching how long it has taken for Chytil to find his way....it makes me want to keep Gauthier and his size/speed around for one more season at a million ....he is still young and could still be a power forward for us if he works on his shot . We will need cheap guys . I also want Kravs to be given that one last shot at being a future Ranger star . Watching those Young Turks last night was exciting and if we can get one of those two guys I mentioned above......BONUS !!! Another robust /physical Dman that could play either side would be a nicer luxury then Copp at playoff time . I expect Miller to contribute more on the rush next season .

I think we plug Goodrow in as our 3rd line checking center and find a cheap 4th line guy to fill that C spot for much less then the 5+ million Copp will cost us . I don't care about Vatrano and Motte unless they are signed cheap .....plus we still should have Hunt/Blais around .

Has he played at that level in these play offs?

Just my opinion, but 2nd line means playing with Panarin and that is what it is all about. Playing with Panarin means really getting down to being effective, creative, consistent, aware, smart and so forth — with the puck. Chytil is a talented hockey player. But his biggest strength is his galloping legs when he drives wide. He works real hard. He isn’t a complete stiff. But he is far from calm and confident with the puck. I don’t see him as a great fit for Panarin — nor do I really think it matters.

Panarin can and will make a center out of a player that is on the outside looking in (at least into a top 6 role). You can get that guy fairly cheap and lock up long term. That is a golden ticket that we must capitalize on.

For me it’s all about, do we want someone with his mind set and attitude on the roster?

It’s his right to turn away and go in another direction when his teammates is in trouble, to play a fancy style of hockey. It’s a free world.

With this team right now, I think it’s standing out how valuable it is to have players that take the fight on the ice without dropping the gloves. Trouba had one shift that resulted in nothing in period 3 in G6 against Pittsburgh when he battled really hard for the puck in his own end, won if, drove up ice and dumped it in and went after it like a crazy person on the forecheck. Metaphorically speaking that is gloves of, sending a message to the rest of that team that we are a group that is hard to play against. Takes place, goes above and beyond.

I get nervous every time Zibanejad is involved physically and I don’t want Panarin or Fox out there making alibi hits. But can we afford to have someone on a 3rd or 4th line that has that mind set?

Talent wise I agree with you, Gauthier is a no-brainer. He could become player that contributes. But attitude wise — he is obviously not in the least interested in contributing.

I don't see the value in Braun. We need a strong vet LHD.

A guy I always liked was Edmundson... coming off a injury, would MTL part ways @ 50%?

The thing about that is, Jones, Robertson and Lundkvist are all due to arrive very soon. You don't want anyone who is going to be butthurt about being demoted to Hartford.

Odds are you'll be carrying 7D. Say you sign Braun. He can split the 6 spot with one of the kids (or you can rotate the kids between the Rangers and Hartford depending on readiness). As one of the kids starts to own the spot, you aren't going to send Braun down. He'll just be a scratch but you still want him as insurance if the kid hits a rough patch. Also goes to why I like Smith in that spot since he can play forward if needed as well. Nice to have a utility guy who can play all over and is popular in the locker room.

If the Rangers are trading Lundkvist it will be for a center. Would this be fair for both teams? Not sure what the Stars needs but I think they can use depth on defense right now.

Rangers get C Ty Dellandrea
Stars get D Nils Lundkvist and 2ed (2023)

Rangers get a physical 2 way center. I am not sure how he is on faceoffs since I could not find faceoffs% on the AHL stats
Stars get depth on defense and someone who can move the puck out of the zone.

basically a swap of prospects from the 2018 draft and Stars get a 2ed to sweeten the deal.

Yes to that second statement.

My order of importance:

1. Lafreniere
2. Miller
3. Kakko
4. Chytil
5. Motte
6. Copp

I’d ask Copp to take a team friendly long term deal. I think he wants to be here.
